Cytomel how long to work

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel how long to work

cytomel

Avatar f tn It does look like you don't convert well. Typically, if you convert slowly, FT3 should be higher in its range (as a percent) than FT4 is in its. Taking T3 is what helps this. You might ask for a selenium test. The enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of T4 to T3 is a selenium based enzyme. So, low selenium levels can impact that. The half life of Cytomel is about 2.5 days, so it takes roughly twice that for it to completely leave your system.
Avatar f tn The reason I'm trying to hide the fact that I took Cytomel from this doc is because after I got fed up with the incompetent office staff and my last appt with this doc, I made an appt with the new one. The new one put me on Cytomel, which didn't work out. I realized my old doc wasn't that bad since the new one was clueless as to how to treat thyroid patients, so I'm going back to him. It's only been 3 months since I saw my last doc.
Avatar n tn I cannot see the doctor until late next week and I feel I need to get back on cytomel (T3). How should I switch back to cytomel without doing a lot more damgae to my adrenals? Should I taper the armour while adding the cytomel? Or should I go off all of the armour asap?
798555 tn?1292787551 I would like to try eating breakfast first and take my dessicated med hours after in the mid morning. I have never read how long to wait, it just says on emty stomach. So how long after a meal is that, 2 hours, 3 hour, 4? Does anyone else do this?
Avatar f tn I agree, that was a lot of Cytomel to start you on. Also agree it might be worth it to drive to find a decent endo. I think you're doing the right thing by cutting down the Cytomel. With your FT3, I might even stop it for a week, then maybe resume at 1/4 of the 25 mcg. Also, when possible, you should split your Cytomel into two doses...one in the morning, and one perhaps late afternoon. There is a happy medium, but right now the important thing is to get your T3 DOWN.
Avatar n tn I understand that Free T3 needs to be in the upper 1/3 of range in order to get rid of depression/anxiety. Clearly I need to be taking more Cytomel, but how much more? and how much should I reduce the Synthroid to increase my Cytomel? Please help! Also, is my Free T4 okay? I tried reducing my Synthroid to 50mcg and taking 20mcg of Cytomel this week..and it seems to be kicking up more anxiety!! Would Armour be a better choice?
1398693 tn?1343684738 I can always tell when my T3 is low now all my finger nails start to break off and if they start to break off I’ll know I need more T3 and since he thinks I’m regulated it’s going to be hard to get him to approve more T3 without the blood work to back me up and he did say blood work every 6 months so I’m not sure if I can get him to call in the orders for it.
267288 tn?1256278177 Thank you for your reply. May I ask if you know how long between stopping T3/Cytomel does it take for the T4/Levothyrox to start balancing naturally? Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn Hi ....Is there anyone on cytomel for hypothyroidism? How long does it take to work? I have put on about 10 pounds slowly even though I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week for 5 out of last 6 months. Then finally about a month ago I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At least now I know the reason for weight gain. I just started on 25 mcg of cytomel. I can't wait for it to start working. Just this week I started burning at least 500 calories a day by exercising ....
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
Avatar f tn I am getting tired already tho and having back/ hip pain so hoping I can last that long at work. Work as long as I your body will let you.
Avatar f tn My doctor also put me on Cytomel T3 to take with the levo twice a day. I am starting to feel better so hopefully it will work for me. It does take a couple months to really see where your going to be with your levels. But I feel a difference already since my body seems to be getting used to it.
Avatar n tn I just want something that works--any suggestion with dealing with the endo--or are there other T3 alternatives that seem to work as well as Cytomel that the endo might be more willing to consider? (I have no personal experience with Cytomel, just what I've been reading on this website.
Avatar m tn With your FT3 as low as it is, you should be fine experimenting with the cytomel on holiday. Since T3 meds tend to get into your system, work relatively quickly and are gone within a few hours, you might initially, feel a bit "buzzed" and could get a slight headache, but that's common when changing/increasing/adding med, so if you give your body a chance to get used to it, you should only feel better on cytomel.
Avatar m tn I have been on a Synthroid/Cytomel combo for 10+ years, and it has worked great for me. The only possible side effect was that my resting heart rate was running 90-105 for the last few years. Over the last year, I've been slowly building up with new hyper symptoms and annual lab tests confirmed that my T3 level was too high. Most frustrating symptoms are heat intolerance, insomnia, and lifestyle-altering anxiety.
Avatar f tn TSH is normal, T4 is normal, T3 is low. Now, they want me to up my synthroid to .88mg and my cytomel to 1/2 a .025mcg tablet every second day. My head is kind of spinning. I am thinking that I will keep my synthroid at .75mg, back on cytomel 1/2 tab every 2nd day. Please help, what does everyone think?
Avatar f tn I have been placed on cytomel as an interim replacement until the RAI treatment and I am wondering if it would be possible to stay on this instead of going on the Synthroid, as I am feeling great right now and would like to continue with the cytomel as I have not gained any weight and my energy level is perfect. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn My Dr. changed to cytomel, due to the fact of not being able to get Aurmour thyroid. I was on 90 aurmor but needed to be incresed. She gave me 50 cytomel. Should I break this up or take at once?
Avatar n tn I too am tryiing to find out answers about synthroid cytomel combination. Have you learned anything since this post? Also the cold toes is a hypo symptom. My feet, esp toes are always cold...sometimes they turn purple and it can be a nice comfortable 75 to 80 degrees. I also have to wear a jacket in the office while working and everyone thinks I'm crazy to be cold. My doctor has been sort of experimenting with my synthroid cytomel dosage and we just haven't gotten it right.
Avatar f tn Felt better Tirosint 100 and Cytomel 10, but doctor reduced due to suppressed TSH. He just wants to do the right thing and I just want to feel better so he's letting me increase my dose. So he mentioned pituitary tests and my seeing an endocrinologist if he's still confused after those tests. I just wish he could ignore TSH, but it seems he can't completely ignore them. I'm glad you were here to answer because I think I remember you have a malfunctioning pituitary.
