Cytomel headache

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel headache

cytomel

Avatar f tn I am on day 2 of 2.5 mcg of cytomel and have a headache again. No hyper symptoms at all - as a matter of fact I think I might be feeling a little more relaxed than usual. Pulse is fine etc. Anyone else have headaches when starting?
Avatar n tn You are not alone! This has happened to others, male and female. Some say the headache can last 2 weeks then it goes away. I'm male and tried 10 mcg cytomel with 112 mcg's of synthroid in March, I had a headache for three weeks and went off it. Was on 137 mcg synthroid prior to the combo. I really reacted to Cytomel, felt very hyper too. Have been on dessicated since April, feel better. Had a slight headache on that for about 3 days, more of a wierd 'buzzing' than a headache.
Avatar f tn What is the daily dose of Cytomel? It may be that since the half life of Cytomel is less than a day, you may already be feeling the effects. I assume you started back on the same dose, right? If so, you should get the effect in a few days.
1001981 tn?1293978481 Any raise in T3 meds whether taking a desiccated med or T3 Cytomel will have a side effect of a mild achey headache. These can last up to 2 weeks. Sometimes increases of the T3 medication or the combo will come right around the same time the increase is needed - so the headache could linger on until you reach optimal dosages. Splitting anything with a T3 is good. Much better to distribute in small portions twice a day - then throwing your body into a "high" then crash.
Avatar n tn Lugols is Iodine maybe you should try Iodoral they have 12.5 that is probably less the Logols. Best thing to do is test your skin for Iodine absorbtion. I have never taken Cytomel only Armour so I can't say much about Cytomel. could be a gland issue.
407745 tn?1230850087 You may be getting too much T3 by taking the cytomel. You might be able to drop the cytomel until your next blood test to see how your body is doing on just the synthroid..
Avatar f tn Hi, laura, you said that " you can have it compounded into a time release,". I don't get it. How can it be time-released?
Avatar f tn How long should I wait before starting cytomel. Backing down from 112mg tirosint to 100mg. Was previously on 100, but t4 levels were below midrange and t3 below. T4 levels now above midrange and t3 levels below. I tried starting 5mcg cytomel after 1 week but having issues tolerating it. I'm having horrible issues with hairloss too. My hair volume has decreased in half. Is that from the chronically low t3?? I have a history of not doing well with t3 meds.
Avatar n tn 30am and 30mg Armour and 5 McG Cytomel again at 3pm. I feel great, much better than when they had me on just 30mg Armour once a day.
Avatar f tn if my tsh is 0.95, t4 1.1, t3 304 can 5mcg of cytomel be added to my levothyroxin 25mcg?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have many symptoms of hypothyroid but my thyroid levels are normal, so my physician prescribed low-dose (5mg) Cytomel in the hopes of alleviating my symptoms. Has anyone taken Cytomel (not the sustained-release form, just the regular instant-release form) for Wilson's Syndrome? If so, could you please share your story? Did Cytomel work? Did you try the sustained-released form of T3?
Avatar f tn I just started cytomel in addition to the synthyroid I have been taking daily for two years. ??? Do I take on an empty stomach and wait to eat?? Or can I take and eat immediately?? My endo said to wait to eat, but pharmacists said I could eat with cytomel as long as no calcium, vitamins taken. Thanks.
798555 tn?1292787551 The bad part - a weird lingering headache that would not stop and sleep problems - like a wiered meth addict! I quit the cytomel two days ago and the headache is mostly gone but still have a very slight 'ringing' in my ears, strange feeling. And now I am already tired agian just on the levothyroxin. The docs tell me Armour will give me headaches if Cytomel did. Is there nothing else I can try? I eat good, take vitamins (selenium included) I cannot sleep through my life.
Avatar f tn I just started on 25mcg of the generic Cytomel in addition to 100mcg of Synthroid about a week ago. I didn't notice a difference until a couple days ago, then started heart palps at night. My dr. told me to take the whole dose at once in the afternoon. So after that, I split the dose between morning and afternoon (this was yesterday). I thought I felt better, but this morning I woke up really dizzy and got sick.
Avatar n tn Cytomel is not so great because it cannot be stored. T4 is a storage mechanism. It is converted to T3 as needed. With Cytomel there is no device to meter the hormone once it enters your system, other than binding proteins. So through the day you will be hypo and euthroid and hyper, endlessly. One hour too much T3, the next hour not enough T3. It is not the way to manage your illness long term. You need to find a better answer. As Peggy says, you need to press for an answer, not a bandaid.
Avatar f tn Is the generic form equal to cytomel? I need to know so I can get the best care that I can possibly receive. I appreciate anyone's advice.
Avatar f tn Your FT4 was quite high, so bear in mind that when adding Cytomel, the rule of thumb is to decrease Synthroid by 20-25 mcg for every 5 mcg Cytomel added. Cytomel is roughly 4 times more powerful than Synthroid, so be sure your doctor knows how to use it and doesn't try to dose it like Synthroid. Also, Cytomel is very fast-acting compared to Synthroid, so many of us split the dose and take some in the morning and some later in the day. Start low and work up. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Does anyone know why Cytomel jumps from a 5 mcg pill to 25 mcgs? I thought that was unusual. I am currently taking this T3 med; a starting doage in addition to T4. I can only hope and pray the T3 addition will lift my symptoms as a lot of you have suggested it may. Looking forward to your answers.
Avatar n tn 75 Tirosint from Synthroid due to possible allergy. I was also on 15mcg Cytomel a day. TSH.61 (.4-4.5) T4Free3.1 (1.4-3.8) T3Free3.2 (2.3-4.2). The dr. wanted me off Cytomel due to my age (46). 1/13/14 labs on only .75 Tirosint TSH1.04 (.4-4.5) T4Free 2.4 (1.4-3.8) T3Free 2.2 (2.3-4.2). By 4/16/14, while still on .75 Tirosint, my TSH jumped to 3.59 (.4-4.5), T4Free2.8 (1.4-3.8) T3Free2.7 (2.3-4.2). My doctor increased my Tirosint to .88 as my TSH was increasing.
769702 tn?1236117192 thanks - i saw the conversations on cytomel and didn't know what it was. actually going to a new endo next week so might be a good time for that chat. would low T3 cause these issues?
Avatar f tn Synthroid takes 6 weeks to build up in your system so taking more wouldn't do anything for a few weeks. Cytomel is faster acting and is a T3 med. Maybe your Endo would this for you for a few weeks until you get some Synthroid built up in your system? I would ask. That is a RIDICULOUSLY high TSH, how are you feeling?
Avatar m tn Your FT4 is close to the top of the range, so I think you're absolutely right...you shouldn't increase your T4 meds. I'd try adding a direct source of T3 (Cytomel). As a first step, I'd lower T4 meds to 125 mcg and add in 5 mcg Cytomel split into two doses, one first thing in the morning and one later in the day (you'll have to play with timing to see what works best for you and your lifestyle schedule).
Avatar n tn 00 am wide awake but body was just too tired to move. What's happening to me? My thyroid was completely removed by radiation years back.
535882 tn?1396576685 This will avoid a temporary hyper state- miserable, shaky , headache, sweaty feeling. You may have to try dessicated and synthetic (cytomel) to see what works. Cytomel made body pain diminish fast but brought on uncontrollable headaches and heart palps for me - but others love it! Due to Armour change, nature- throid may be better if cytomel does not agree with you.
Avatar n tn dx central hypo + hashimoto new endo prescribed synthroid 125mgr + titre(cytomel) 10mgr. Read up on meds , condition etc but have absolutely no improvement infact feel awful with cytomel combo and will probably have to stop. Wrote to endo who told me to stop cytomel now believes that blood levels will 'have to do' because she can't understand why?
