Cytomel hashimoto's

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel hashimoto's

cytomel

Avatar n tn I had the same symptoms as you when taking Cytomel. Cytomel is a potent form of T3. I was sensitive to that small dose with my unithroid. I'm glad the doctor reduced your Synthroid. Seems like your doses were really high--especially the Cytomel, which still seems a concern. I would research Cytomel and get a second opinion from an endochronologist. Ridha Arem, M.D. explains the correct usage of giving Synthroid with Cytomel.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 44yo female. I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's for 15 years (confirmed with FNA). I do have a benign nodule on the right that on ultrasound is the same size as one of my other thyroid lobes- otherwise uneventful on ultrasound. I am currently taking Synthroid 150mcg and Cytomel 5mcg. I exercise 5 days/wk, keep track of steps/calorie intakeā€¦can not seem to budge weight. In fact, I have gained another 10 pounds in the past month.
Avatar n tn I also have Hashimoto's and i'm 33. I'm being tested for lupus and r.arthritis due to hip joint pain on both sides and high immunoglobulin g's. But can't Hashimoto's make the IgGs higher than the normal range? I have been to numerous doctors all of which only test TSH and everytime i've been in the normal range, still feel bad, it's not working.
Avatar n tn I am trying sustained release T3 now with cytomel and I am not having luck with it, I prefer cytomel alone (I used it before)-it works much more effectively for me. You might need some adrenal support like cortef to continue, and you should check your ferritin levels too. Mine are low, which was probably another reason why stuff wasn't working for me. Synthroid probably won't do it for you, if it hasn't already, just my opinion. Get some blood tests and try some cytomel if you can.
Avatar n tn Do you think the pneumonia was related to the Cytomel? Why were you taken off the Cytomel? If FT4 levels are too high and FT3 levels are too low, you are still going to feel hypo since T3 is what your cells can use. If your doctor has recommended trying selenium, I think I'd follow his suggestions. However, I also think you need to add Cytomel back into your meds, which may necessitate your dropping your Levoxyl a bit at the same time.
Avatar f tn I have had Hashimoto's for a couple years and am on 75mcg levothyroxine and 10mcg Cytomel. The Cytomel seems to help with depression and irritability. I am frustrated with this disease for many reasons but the most troublesome is the lack of sexual desire. My endo has said it's a symptom and I have read it is on many sites but I don't see much talk about it in forums. Is anyone else experiencing this and what have you done to improve it?
Avatar f tn Hashimoto's can NOT be cured. Once you have the antibodies, you will always have them. Their numbers may be reduced, but they will stay and continue to eat away at your thyroid until they kill it off. I know we all wish there was some miracle thing out there that would get rid of the antibodies, but it's just not there.
Avatar n tn With Hashimoto's, should I take both Synthroid and Cytomel? Some docs prescribe both; others only the synthroid. What does the Cytomel add?
Avatar f tn I need a doctor that is great with cytomel, tsh suppression, hashimoto's, etc., I am sick of wasting my time with all these doctors that do not listen. Anybody know any cytomel friendly doctor's that are currently taking patients and working in or around the Seattle area???
4489079 tn?1360957203 The T3 med has helped hugely, I noticed improvement almost instantly. I have been on 5mcg of Cytomel (twice) a day for 4-5 months. That was the original dose of Cytomel and has not changed. However, we have reduced the Levo, 3 times and my TSH is still .01. Just curious as to why my TSH has not budged. I'm sure we will now go down to 50 mcg of Levo. I realize the T3 med plays a roll in this but reducing the Levo should bring up my TSH eventually, yes?
Avatar n tn I have hashimoto's disease and have so for the past 17 years. I monitor it pretty regularly, although I do hate to have to go get checked. I am on 125 mg of synthroid, and I find I really do put on weight still pretty easily. See I am in the bodybuilding/figure world, and compete, so I have to get my weight and bodyfat pretty low. I am a testament that it is possible to do so. However, I do really have to work hard at it.
Avatar f tn My doc just put me on cytomel. She said to take it with Armour. Something about I need more t3ort4.. Can someone explain? And, I hear you guys talk about " grains ". What is a grain? I am on 60 mg of Armour and 5 mcg cytomel. My TSH came down from 7.04 to 1.92 in first 6 weeks of Armour only..that's good right? She said my TPO was 45 though....? Help.
Avatar f tn Of all those tests, the only ones you really needed were TSH, Free T4 and Free T3. The rest are considered obsolete and a waste of money. I can't see where your doctor is getting hyper out of those labs. Your TSH is good, and so is your FT4. Your FT3 is near the bottom of its range, and looks like you might be able to stand a bump up on the cytomel. Hair loss is a hypo symptom, which is why your hair began growing again, when you got on medication.
Avatar f tn Results at 1:15 p.m. on 12-16-11 TSH .95 (.45-4.50), T4Free 1.8 (.7-1.5) T3Free 3.6 (2.3-4.2). I am on synthroid and was back on cytomel before this test. Back on 10-29-11 my TSH was 13.33. I was off cytomel at the time and was trying synthroid at night. While I am feeling a little better and feeling like I was actually better staying on the cytomel , I still feel like synthroid and synthroid plus cytomel has not helped much. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's over 10 years ago.
Avatar f tn Depending on what your FT levels are, then you might need to boost up your synthroid OR look into adding cytomel, but since cytomel is a T3 med and is 4 times stronger than the T4 med, you will need to be very sure it's called for and then make sure you go for the lowest dosage that works for you. But - first things first - and first thing is to get those tests done.
Avatar f tn I am on synthroid and cytomel. I take some other vitamins 6 to 8 hours later. I would like to take a calcium supplement. I know I have to wait at least 4 hours after the synthroid and cytomel, but does introducing calcium supplementation change thyroid levels. Should I get retested in 6 weeks. I thought I read somewhere that calcium stay in th e blood an could change thyroid levels regardless of when you take it. Also, anyone try Maca or l-tyrosine?
1243437 tn?1269011117 You really do need the Free T3 test to see if you are converting properly. Apparently this Endo isn't a thyroid specialist who actually understands that Free T3 is the most active form of thyroid hormone in the body. Free T4 converts to Free T3. So both tests are extremely important. Unfortunately you have Hashimoto's at a very extremely high level right now.
Avatar n tn My synthyroid dosage has been decreased from 125 to 100 and now on 88. I am also taking cytomel 5mg fpr the last month in half.
Avatar n tn You might consider going up to 5mcg's of Cytomel. Usually the dosage of Cytomel is 5-10% of the T4 dosage and at 2.5 you are taking less than that. Plus, your free t3 has room to move up. Most feel best with a free t3 over 350.
Avatar m tn Dear Dr, Lupo thanks for all your answers that you post here, I was diagnose with Hashimoto's back in 2007 my TPO was 1270 and antithyroglobulin 500 (T4)8.6 T3 28 TSH 10.76 was taking Synthroid100mcg at the begining now I am up to Synthroid 200mgc for 6 months and got retested this year and my levels are TPO 1413 and antithyroglobulin 645 Thyrozine (T4) 15.1 and t3 25 TSH 2.014. The Dr. found no reflexions on my ankles and he said I had a stubborn Hashimoto's. He prescribed Cytome 5MCG.
Avatar n tn I've had hashimoto's thyroiditis for over 20 years, but 13 years ago I started having what are considered fibromyalgia symptoms. I personally believe they are from the Hashimoto's, but they are not going away while being in range with my TSH. I'm on Levoxyl and my doctor just put me on Cytomel as well and I still have all these symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hello Dr. Lupo I have been on 15 mcg for about 6 years due to slightly low thyroid function and depression. Overall the meds have worked well, but I tend to get sweaty sometimes. I have been seeing a new doctor and have discovered that I have hashimoto's thyroiditis (high thyroglobulin antibodies). My T4 is low and my T3 is borderline low. My doc has switched me to a combination of levo. and armour instead of the cytomel.
Avatar n tn I just started cytomel (5 mcg x 2) but I am having very bad headaches. I cut my pills in 4 pieces to see if the headaches would get better but physically I seem to need the full 5 mcg to feel better. My eyes also look a little puffy too. Has anyone had headaches from this drug and been able to work up to a higher dose eventually? I'm also on 88 mcg of synthroid.
Avatar m tn Hey oldie, long time no see... looks like you're not doing much better. I did a little research... First off, if you have an underlying thyroid problem, you won't be able to get off the levo. Secondly, if there was actual damage done to your thyroid, it's not going to go away. Amiodarone has a lot of iodine and that's, typically, what makes people hypo while taking it. If you happen to have Hashimoto's, the iodine can make the autoimmune reaction worse.
