Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel hair

cytomel

Avatar f tn This question I posted about the use of Cytomel breaking off my hair was for Hypothyroid not hyperthyroid. I had no symptoms of Hypo but was told I needed medication.
Avatar f tn Should I increase the meds regarding hair loss? Do we think that might help? I have heard that cytomel causes hair fall. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Will adding cytomel to your levoxyl help with hair loss? This discussion is related to Cytomel in addition to Synthroid.
Avatar f tn My docter lowered synthyroid to 125 mcg and added 12.5 cytomel 2 times a day. I am wondering if that is too much cytomel? My docter said as long as the other level were fine and I felt ok . But I seemed hungery and my hair was thinning.
Avatar f tn How long should I wait before starting cytomel. Backing down from 112mg tirosint to 100mg. Was previously on 100, but t4 levels were below midrange and t3 below. T4 levels now above midrange and t3 levels below. I tried starting 5mcg cytomel after 1 week but having issues tolerating it. I'm having horrible issues with hairloss too. My hair volume has decreased in half. Is that from the chronically low t3?? I have a history of not doing well with t3 meds.
Avatar f tn That was a pretty drastic change in Cytomel. You only lost 10 lbs, and he cut your Cytomel in half. Hair loss is often the last symptom to go away. The body heals the more crucial systems first. Hair loss is reactive and often has more to do with what was going on a month or six weeks ago than what is happening today. Is your doctor testing FREE T3 and FREE T4? Please post labs and reference ranges from before he reduced your meds if you have them.
Avatar f tn Just wanted to share.....I've been on Synthroid with 5 mg of Cytomel everyday for the past few years and felt pretty darn stinky not to mention losing hair by the mounds. Started Tirosent about 5 days ago and dare I say it.....I think I feel better. Things are finally starting to move along digestively (if you know what I mean) and I don't feel so achy anymore. I'm still waiting to see if there's any change with the hairloss but I'm cautiously optimistic. I think I like it!
Avatar f tn I had none of this with the cytomel. My hair had gotten fuller and my eyebrows grew back. I was just still having hypo symptoms. If all this is temporary I will hang in there. But I can't rationalize staying on a med that is making me look like a characterization if myself if I don't feel better.
327369 tn?1326119908 Just for info, I noticed something in the medical info that came with the Cytomel. It stated that Cytomel has no known side effects. How many meds do you know that can say that?
Avatar n tn Hi.I'm only on Cytomel as my endo feells that the Synthroid might aggravate my hair loss (side effect). Synthroid is T4 which is a storage form of thyroid hormone and is not active, needs to be converted with certain enzymes to the T3 form to be active in your body. Many docs do not want to use it because its half life is very short. I need to take it x2/day, but it's really the important hormone in your body.
Avatar f tn But if you could give me what you would recommend for the tirosint and cytomel I would greatly appreciate it. I have read where other people were asking about cytomel - well my short story was when i first went on tirosint (they killed my thyroid) I was dead tired and saw a specialist that put me on the cytomel and within 1 week I was back to my normal self - no longer dead tired - made a huge difference! Look forward to hearing from you!
Avatar f tn So he sent me to the Endo and she raised my Levoxyl to 112mcg and kept my Cytomel the same at 15mcg 2x daily. After 7 weeks I was tested again and my levels went into the normal range but just above the beginning normal levels which is not optimal for me. Still feeling like garbage. I told her I want to be back in the mid to upper range and so she kept me at 112 mcg Levoxyl and reduced my Cytomel to 10mcg 2x daily. Does that sound right to everyone?
793305 tn?1493925518 My endo is trying to bring my range back to normal by reducing my synthroid dose (twice now) but keeping the Cytomel the same. I have noticed that my hair has stopped falling out and I cant drink caffiene products anymore or my anxiety goes through the roof. After this last dose I now feel tired around mid afternoon and im in bed by 7pm. I see him again next month. Hoping that things will change and hoping Armour will be available again soon.
Avatar f tn My doctor took my dose from 75 to 88 to 100 and 15 of cytomel. I asked to switch to naturethroid due to so much hair loss and sudden weight gains Doctor put my on 2 grains. I’ve been on it for 3 days. Any idea why i have no energy and headaches? I really want to switch back. I’m an educator and need energy for my kids at school. Should I give the naturehtroid more time since it has only been three days?
Avatar n tn Went on T3 3 years ago and did well but lately more hypo symptoms. Now will be taking 50 Cytomel and 1 grain of Armour to start out with. My systoms are hair loss, ear ringing, tired, not sleeping. Anyone tried T3 with Armour. I am praying this will work and reverse my symptoms.
Avatar f tn My ENT prescribed Cytomel for me to take from now until my RAI treatment (I just had total thyroidectomy 10 days ago and have a small papilliary cancer w/ follicular variant). Anyway, I'm not having any symptoms, except hair loss, since my surgery and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and start taking the Cytomel now or should I wait until I actually feel bad and need it? What is everyone's experience with Cytomel?
1484208 tn?1288454979 I have had my total thyroidectomy 3 weeks agofor multifocal and node extension cancer and am on the cytomel for 2 weeks now. My scalp appears to have a rash on it and is very dry and I am having hair loss. Is this related to the medication or the change in my hormones? I am getting very self conscious. What can I do? Has anyone else had these symptoms?
1882966 tn?1320745459 but I have heard that taking Cytomel, has the same side-effect (ie. Hair Loss/Breakage), if your thyroid is thrown out of balance (?) I have also read that adding Cytomel T3 can HELP a hair loss / breakage problem, too!! All of this has made me seriously confused. I cannot risk any more hair loss. Hmmm. NOt sure what I should do here…. My October 9th labs were FT3 (2.5), FT4 (1.57), TSH (1.36) My November 2nd labs were FT3 (3.0), FT4 (1.67), TSH (.826) …..
903476 tn?1242237037 Before that I was on synthroid for 6 years with again what seemed like normal thyroid levels but I still had meny of the symptoms of hypothyroid, fatigue, weakness, weight gain, increased difficulty losing weight, coarse, dry hair, dry, rough pale skin, hair loss and major cold intolerance. The letter stated that theres a small subsect of hypothyroid patiants that may seem to have normal thyroid levels but there body's and brain's are lacking a enzyme to handle synthroid.
Avatar f tn I have tried several doses of synthroid as well as several combinations of cytomel and synthroid but I am still not feeling better. After bouncing from meds to meds, after only being on them for a few months i decided to try a new approach....I changed Drs. This new dr. Recomended that i stay on my meds for six months before reassessing and changing meds.
988694 tn?1332359479 Although I have never had per example heavy periods, but missed some. My hair is very coarse and I know my hair can look much much better per example. Another different thing: I either gain 10 pounds and I feel heavy or I lost a lot without wanting. I just do not want to eat. Another things is anxiety, when I am more hypo, I can't sleep, I am very anxious.
Avatar f tn I got a call from my gynecologist stating that my thyroid levels came back very low. We were trying to identify some of the symptoms since I have PCOS. My doctor stated my TSH level was at 0.29 and Free t4 level was at 0.24. I've been on daily 50mg of Cytomel since 2005. What all does this mean? I have symptoms of hypothyroidism (hair loss, fatigue, weight gain, muscle aches, etc). Everything that i read is very confusing.
Avatar n tn I had a total thyroidectomy in October. I am currently taking 112mcg of synthroid. Although my blood work is where the dr wants it to be I cant seem to lose the 15lbs I have gained & everytime I eat my stomach becomes extremely bloated. I have even been asked when I am due! I weighed 120 before surgery & 135 now. I have been reading a lot about Cytomel. What is the criteria for adding Cytomel? Why are some pt's on it & some not?
