cytomel

Avatar n tn Thanks for your input. My (fabulous) thyroid doctor has retired and I am needing to find someone new. I've had a couple of not-so-great ones in the past; they just threw some low-dose generic synthroid at me and I never felt good or lost the excess weight. With your information, I can better monitor what medications I need or should be taking.
Avatar f tn My family doctor reluctantly agreed to let me start the Cytomel again. My psychiatrist started me on 25 mcg of Cytomel. I felt better for one day, and then everything went down hill. I started having night sweats, shaking, constantly sweating during the day, chills, some wheezing at night when laying down, and a productive cough. My temperature never went higher than 99.0 F.
1369218 tn?1282423884 Laying down my heart would just pound out of my chest. I had been on Cytomel a while, so they took me off it. Well, my thyroid levels fell down hard. I then went to one Cytomel and the racey heart was back again. I then started getting chronic diarreha. I have been to the GI doc, cardiologist and many endos without any help. I read about Plummer's disease and it says that a nodule/cyst can turn toxic. Could this be my issue? Can you remove a nodule without taking the thyroid.
168348 tn?1379357075 This is not unexpected since my doctor had warned me that my bodies need for thyroid hormone would decline after menopause. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how low did you go on the T4. I was taking 175 mcg of T4 and 10 mcg of Cytomel, but I'm not taking 150 mcg (Cytomel remains the same).
Avatar n tn I now am getting closer normal levels but I feel horrible. Because we are trying for a baby I cannot be put back on the cytomel until I am pregnant again and give birth. Since I have been off the cytomel though I instantly gained almost 10 lbs already. I am back to my afternoon naps.
765572 tn?1234697366 Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day. The body has to convert T4 into T3 in order to benefit. A lot of people do not have a problem making this conversion but others do.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have many symptoms of hypothyroid but my thyroid levels are normal, so my physician prescribed low-dose (5mg) Cytomel in the hopes of alleviating my symptoms. Has anyone taken Cytomel (not the sustained-release form, just the regular instant-release form) for Wilson's Syndrome? If so, could you please share your story? Did Cytomel work? Did you try the sustained-released form of T3?
606423 tn?1271824088 Should I get thyroid ablation done..so I can only be treated for hypo..Please tell me after thyroid ablation is done...will I gain rapid weight and not able to loose it.??? This discussion is related to selenium, iodine and Hashimoto's.
Avatar f tn The cause of autoimmune disease is unknown. So, there is no way to find out the reason. Antibodies can fluctuate wildly, even intraday, but there is no way to bring them down, and once you have them, you have them for life. Sometimes, if the thyroid is removed or it completely "dies" the antibodies will go into remission...sometimes not. In my opinion, there isn't a whole lot of merit in bringing the antibodies down.
Avatar f tn I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.

Avatar m tn s the fast-acting T3 in Armour Thyroid, then people taking synthetic T3, Cytomel, experience the same fast-acting T3 response and take multiple doses of Cytomel throughout the day?
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn The GMC have agreed that Dr Skinner was not acting dangerously in initiating treatment with thyroid hormone replacement for those patients who had normal thyroid function tests but who suffered several symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism. They also agreed that for those patients who did not do well on levothyroxine-only therapy, the use of natural desiccated thyroid extract (i.e.
Avatar f tn ve heard of fibro patients feeling better with free T3 in the upper end of the range? Many hypo thyroid patients feel symptoms lessen with free T3 in upper end too, helped muscle pain for me.
Avatar n tn If the reference ranges from your lab are close to these I have seen for FT4 ( 10.2 - 19.2 pmol/L ) and FT3 ( 3.5 - 7.7 pmol/L ), then your results are borderline/below range. With those symptoms and those test results, I agree with Sally that you need more medication. Symptom relief should be all important.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm 26 years old and I'm going thru alot shortness of breath and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I have grave's disease which is a autoimmune disorder that effects the thyroid, so I started off Hyper and then took radiation to kill the thyroid and am now Hypothyroid. I started of on 75 mcg of synthroid and 5mcg twice a day of cytomel but that wasn't working and so i'm now on 112mcg of synthroid and the cytomel is still the same.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease four years ago. I have been on and off synthroid and cytomel because my labs are always abnormal and I still have symptoms. Can you have a false positive thyroid antibody test my T3 is always low no matter how much synthroid I take - T3 was low before synthroid too my T3 is only within norm range if I take at least 30mg of cytomel throughout the day my TSH is always 0.01-0.
Avatar f tn I had a TT in 9/09 for Papillary Thyroid Cancer. I had no history of thyroid disease and thyroid levels were always in normal range. What does this mean? Endo ordered test but never mentioned this.
Avatar f tn 0 is on the hypo side. Cytomel only for a short period is the standard treatment for reverse T3. After the RT3 clears, then go back to taking thyroid med with some T4 in it or a combo of T3 / T4.
