Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel dosing for weight loss

cytomel

Avatar n tn Lupo does not believe or think the free t3 has anything to do with fat loss or weight loss because of the science behind calorie in calorie out, but not everyone is the same--some where along the way I have really slowed my metabolism down and would like to know how to repair it and there has to be some correlation between the Free T3 levels--He says that they don't usually treat based on those numbers because of the cytomel being short lived, so then I would think you would go by the level
Avatar m tn When you were on 100 mcg Cytomel for weight loss, did it make you feel hyper at all? Did you lose weight while on it?
Avatar f tn I have been exercising and eating healthy which is sometimes a problem because for the last 4 months I have been craving sweets. Does anyone out there have any idea? Could the addition of Cytomel held the weight gain?
Avatar m tn Which i thought was way to much cytomel for them to be giving me. Now i switched back on armour to my old dose of 60mg which they wanted me to take.Thats sounds reasonable for a month until i get my frees and go off that. My question is what they had me on syntheticly a few days ago and for a few weeks was a value equal to 150mg of armour. Which a person who converts from 250 syntroid is suppose to take. Is just me or was i way overdosed? My original dx was tsh 6.6.
Avatar f tn If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Hi ....Is there anyone on cytomel for hypothyroidism? How long does it take to work? I have put on about 10 pounds slowly even though I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week for 5 out of last 6 months. Then finally about a month ago I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At least now I know the reason for weight gain. I just started on 25 mcg of cytomel. I can't wait for it to start working. Just this week I started burning at least 500 calories a day by exercising ....
Avatar f tn I'd like to clarify something here, please. If I remember correctly, Luvlaughlin has Hashi's; she's not wanting to use cytomel JUST for weight loss. I believe her question is whether or not it does help with weight loss, most likely gained while hypo. Everyone is different, so whereas it might help some lose the weight they gained from being hypo, it won't help us all. Cytomel should only be taken if blood work and symptoms indicate that it's needed.
Avatar f tn When you go in for more tests, please make sure they test for Free T3 and Free T4 (not the same as Total T3 and T4), along with TSH they always want to test for. If the doctor resists, then you should insist on it and don't take no for an answer. Since there are reports that the best measure of tissue thyroid levels is the ratio of Free T3 to Reverse T3, I would also suggest that you test for Reverse T3, to establish a baseline.
Avatar n tn I am getting worse the longer I am self dosing with cytomel only (currently 2.5 mcg, 3xday). Is that a normal amount for cytomel or a small amount? I have an appt this week to go over my labs from last Thursday but feel like I will collapse before then. My doctor will not want to do labs for a month. Is it possible to do them after two weeks on Armour and see if it is working? I get scared as soon as I start feeling worse on a new medication.
Avatar f tn my numbers are: TSH 2.3 (.40-4.00); Free T4 .73 (.70-1.8); Free T3 3.1 (2.3-5.0) My doses: Tirosint 50 mcg.; Cytomel 12 mcg/day My thyroid was destroyed roughly 8 years ago; the only problems I have is hair loss and weight gain - I don't overeat, I exercise - I don't eat processed foods - I could eat 1200 calories a day - good calories and put on weight. I grow most of what I eat. Help! I am 65.
6555161 tn?1382381862 Ferritin: 33 (lab range 15-150) Free T3: 2.0 (lab value 2.0-4.4) So, yeah. WAY low in both. I've been doing good taking my iron at night, but was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for iron? I'm just taking 325 mg of Ferrous Sulfate (says 65mg underneath that) but not sure if i need a larger dose or if this is a good starting dose to build it up and see what it's like down the road some. Just asking if anyone has a favorite iron?
Avatar f tn I am weight training as part of my exercise routine. I used to take Creatine drops to supplement my energy and endurance. Now that I am on Cytomel, can I still do this? Finally, are there any safe fat burners and energy boosters that can be taken with Cytomel?
Avatar f tn - ( , on the 50 mcg Cytomel. I think my adjustment needs to be pretty small. They gave me enough 5 mcg pills to = 30 mcg on a new prescription, but I still have over 2 weeks of the 25 mcg strength left. So I think I will take 35 mcg until I run out of the 25's and see how I feel. If It's OK, then I will have enough 5's to equal 35 mcg for the remainder of the 5-6 weeks until re-test.
Avatar n tn For the past 5 years or so, I have been struggling to find a medication or combination that works for me.
Avatar n tn I wouldn't advise adding cytomel without knowing what your actual thyroid levels are -- that's Free T4, Free T3 and TSH. T3 med (cytomel) is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and it can really throw you for a loop if you don't need it. It can cause very rapid heart rate, palps, etc. Whenever cytomel is added, the T4 med should be dropped accordingly. Did you receive the cytomel from your doctor or as a script? What did your doctor say about adding it?
Avatar f tn I was on half of the synthroid I mentioned, and my level was at a 4. The Dr. thought it should go lower so she put me on .5 of Cytomel. I noticed the weight around my middle seemed to have trimmed down some. I teach aerobics and really didn't have any of side effects except did get tired if I did too much. Am not tired with this but my hair is dry and breaking off which I don't like and I had felt dizzy at times on this new medication. What do you suggest? go back to my 1/2 of .
Avatar f tn I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.
6555161 tn?1382381862 4-they no longer check it even if you ask, but I ordered my own) so I went to 88cg of levo and slowly started the T3, and adding the Cytomel at first actually helped me gain weight and stop losing hair for a bit-but then they bumped me up to 100 levo and 10mcg of Cytomel because my TSH became high due to also restarting birth control. However,my FT4 has stayed at the very tippy top of the range for months now, and they don't seem to find a problem with this.
506043 tn?1222294696 I know I should trust my endo, but I am not so trusting of most doctors these days---my doctor actually taught at Harvard Med and has been an endo for 28 years, but still, I kinda want to have some control over this and be educated and not be just some patient and have my dosing based on my weight alone. I am doing good on 37.5mcg of Cytomel right now which I guess is the equivalent of 150mcg of Synthroid so maybe we will start there...I do have to keep my TSH down low because my tumor was 1.
705042 tn?1228721787 The cytomel you are taking is probably too high a dose compared to your levothyroxine. Get a second opinion, and get copies of your tests. Your doctor sounds a little iffy.
