Cytomel dosing

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel dosing

cytomel

Avatar m tn Heres the deal i was on 50 synthroid and 25 twice a day of cytomel. Which i thought was way to much cytomel for them to be giving me. Now i switched back on armour to my old dose of 60mg which they wanted me to take.Thats sounds reasonable for a month until i get my frees and go off that. My question is what they had me on syntheticly a few days ago and for a few weeks was a value equal to 150mg of armour. Which a person who converts from 250 syntroid is suppose to take.
Avatar f tn To save a second surgery, he did it all at once. I am now on 200 mcg of Synthroid and a low dose of Cytomel along with the Tums calcium therapy. I am still tired, cold and my joints hurt. My doctor does listen to me. The last reading on my thyroid level was 16.9 down from 59.7, so we are making progress. However, I think I need more. Apparently 200 mcg of Synthroid is a large dose, have you heard of higher doses this early in the game?
Avatar f tn Several studies have looked at T3 dosing and have not found that appropriate cytomel dosing in combo with levothyroxine offers any benefit. That being said, I have a rare handful of patients who have truly done better with 5mcg of cytomel 2x/day in addition to their T4 -- but this seems to be the exception, not the rule.
Avatar m tn Normally a combination of synthyroid and cytomel would be given. If you are taking cytomel, it should also be spread out through the day (ie. multiple dosing) not all at once. I would be rechecking on this or getting a second opinion. Another option considering that your FT3 is low is to switch to 'natural thyroid' whcih contains T3, T4 and other trace hormones. Armor is one, dessicated thyroid (erfa brand from canada), or compounded from pharmacy.
Avatar n tn The lower TSH is expected due to increase in thyroid meds (addition of cytomel). The synthroid (t4) is usually lowered when one starts cytomel -- there is no proven benefit of combining T4 and T3 -- if you feel better with it and the level of TSH is not too low (<0.3 usually) then it may be reasonable, but if not then there is no clear role for routine use of cytomel with a slightly low free T3 level. T3 levels fluctuate during the day so interpret labs w/ caution.
Avatar f tn 25mcg cytomel is a huge dose to start on. Cytomel is 4 times stronger than T4, so 25mcg= around100mcg synthroid. When I first added cytomel I added 2.5mcg twice a day. It took my body awhile to even get used to that dose. Adding too much T3 at once can cause headaches and other bad symptoms.
Avatar n tn t converting T4-T3 well, so my MD put me on Cytomel in addition. I was doing well on Cytomel 50mcg and Synthroid 50 mcg for about a year. Lately the heart palpitations came back. They would go away within a half hour after taking an additional Cytomel. My doctor decided I need to take a timed release version of the T3 so I had made with a compounding pharmacy. So far I'm doing OK but I wondered if body can make antibodies against the medications?
Avatar n tn 0 which is great but my Free T3 is still sitting at 227, I am on syn 50mcg and cytomel 7.5, doc started me on cytomel at 2.5 and doing small increaese monthly, but my Free T3 is not moving it has been between 200-227 everytime even on the cytomel?? Doc can't really explain it?? Can you?? He decided to switch me to armour today 1grain daily to see if my body responds to that?? He thinks everybodies body is different and responds to differnt things, so thinks we should just give it a try??
Avatar f tn Is the generic form equal to cytomel? I need to know so I can get the best care that I can possibly receive. I appreciate anyone's advice.
Avatar f tn I am still on the 75, but he started me on a low dose (5mcg) Cytomel. I am splitting my Cytomel half in the morning, half an hour before dinner. So far so good... My wonderful endo, who I found after firing the first three, said that eventually, I will need more thyroid meds. I chose my new endo because he believes in testing and treating FT3 levels. Too many docs refuse to consider FT3 levels in treatment. Here's where I found him: http://www.thyroid-info.
671269 tn?1227747264 I have a few issues, some of which are- depression hypothyroid ADHD Desperately in search of reliable information on how to broaden my blood tests and include any other tests that would explain my resistance to Cytomel. Am currently trying 150 mcg because 100 isn't cutting it depression, weight and concentration wise. I'd like to know exactly what endocrine systems of mine are failing me and get balanced somehow.
Avatar f tn Could these be caused by thyroid or thyroid meds? Because of the supply problem, I just switched to 150 mcg. of levoxyl and 50 mcg. of cytomel. I seem to be having more palpitations on this drug? I also have "sweats" and anxiety. Thanks!
Avatar f tn ” Finally felt best being slightly hypo on 50 mcg brand levoxyl and 12.5 mcg. brand Cytomel taken each morning. Labs pretty stable until June 2010. My TSH went up to 7.75, had many uncomfortable symptoms. Made several adjustments to meds. Constant loud heartbeats waking me up at night, tightness and lump in my throat, and swelling of my neck under my chin. I also had more energy than I have had in years, so I know I was hyper.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I had some questions for you guys regarding cytomel. I am taking straight cytomel. I am on about 12 MCG at this point. I have been slowly building. My ears have been ringing like crazy but i dont have the weird buzzing/neuropothy feeling i had before when taking synthroid and tirosint. I am assuming and hoping that my body will adjust, but can a person Just take cytomel forever? Is this healthy? I dose it throughout the day. I take it in very small amounts either 1.25 or 2.5.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist said you can take it in two doses. I know you can take armour and cytomel in two doses, but I e never heard this about t4 meds.
Avatar m tn What goolarra said. And........... People like multiple dose not just Armour but all the other brands of dessicated natural thyroid as well (Nature Throid, NP Thyroid, Erfa Canadian). Not only is T3 have a more potent effect, but all dessicated thyroid meds have a higher T3 to T4 ratio in them compared with what the human body has. So your FT3 levels are always much unnaturally higher than T4.
Avatar f tn It states on T3 5mcg RF Capsules. I felt better than I had ever had when I first started Cytomel Over a year ago, but within a couple of months I had a lot big heart jumps (wasn't palpitations). So tried armour, but since I am so sensitive, I couldn't regulate, but I didn't have the heart jumps. Now back on Levoxyl for a little over 3 months, depression is back, arm pain (fairly intense at times for the last 2 months which I wrote a separate post).
Avatar f tn It has been 5 weeks and I would like to get retested so I can get redosed and possibly add T3 as Cytomel taking a half dose in AM and PM. I know I am not right and would like to speed the process up. The extreme fatigue, moo, and weight issues are not even close to being where they should be. I was first diagnosed in 2002 after my first pregnancy but I know I have been hypo for years as I have taken 1 1/2-2 hour naps for years and have always been extremely sensitive to cold.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Most places I read that you should wait until after blood draw to take any T3 med. I guess that avoids the possibility of false high result. Maybe it also helps avoid making the doctor nervous by T3 being higher than he likes to see.
Avatar f tn I read through the other thread you started on this same subject. Since the two grains is less than the Synthroid and Cytomel you were taking previously, there is no need to reduce further. Start with the full two grains.
Avatar f tn I just got my lab results back and need some help with what you think needs to happen with meds. I am thinking maybe lower the Synthroid and up the Cytomel. Currently I take .1MG of Synthroid and 5MCG of Cytomel split in have with 2.5 MCG in AM and 2.5 MCG in PM. I list labs from newest to oldest. 2/22/14 TSH - .932 (range .300-5.00) FT4 - 1.03 (range .58-1.64) FT3 - 3.22 (range 2.20-4.10) 11/8/13 (after these results I was put on the .
6555161 tn?1382381862 So basically, been on an alternating dose of 88 and 100mcg of levo with 10mcgs of Cytomel thrown in for over 8 weeks now, still feeling dizzy and having some hair loss and occasionally tremor-my FT4 rang up the same 8 weeks ago, back when I was on a straight 100mcg of lwvo. Obviously I'm still not converting my levo properly still and though I'm thankful this endo group does Cytomel, they apparently don't like to give any more than 10mcgs to any patient.
Avatar f tn t have a really good answer for you because I just had my TT for thyroid cancer on 5/19, so I was put on Cytomel 37.5mcg (150 mcg equivalent of Synthroid) for a month and then taken off of it to prepare for RAI ablation. After my RAI I was still start on 137 mcg Synthroid. On that dose of Cytomel I was pretty miserable just about every day...I had headaches, anxiety, etc. Hopefully, this starting dose of Synthroid will make me feel ok. I heard it can take up to a year or more (YIKES!
Avatar m tn My answer to your weight loss question is yes. I know when I took Cytomel in the past that I would lose weight and have more energy. I don't know if this is all in my head but ...yesterday, I took 50mcg of lovothyroxin and cut the cytomel into 3 pieces and took them through out the day. I seem to have more energy last night. This morning I (on my own) took 1 1/2 true synthroid (75 mcg) and a 3rd of a 25mcg of cytomel. I found my labs work from last year July T4 Free Range (.61-1.
