cytomel

Avatar f tn my numbers are: TSH 2.3 (.40-4.00); Free T4 .73 (.70-1.8); Free T3 3.1 (2.3-5.0) My doses: Tirosint 50 mcg.; Cytomel 12 mcg/day My thyroid was destroyed roughly 8 years ago; the only problems I have is hair loss and weight gain - I don't overeat, I exercise - I don't eat processed foods - I could eat 1200 calories a day - good calories and put on weight. I grow most of what I eat. Help! I am 65.
894666 tn?1274097896 Has anyone ever had a similar problem. If it is the cytomel, I think I need to stop taking it. I was hoping it would help with weight loss, which is has not.
Avatar f tn What does happen with Armour is the eight gain stops when you get a midrange FT4 and high in range FT3 and you have more energy to exercise. The extra energy will let you be more active, which will result in weight loss. A rare few will lose just by switching to Armour, but its not the norm.
Avatar n tn I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately. I also started getting slightly sick in the morning about an hour after taking the Synthroid. My last blood test showed TSH of 0.1mIU/L.
Avatar f tn We switched to 175 of Synthroid and she asked me to keep an eye out for symptoms of hyper as that dosage should be more than enough for full replacement at my weight if there were no absorption issues. On that dosage of Synthroid: TSH 23.50 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L THYROXINE FREE 0.86 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL She upped the Synthroid to 200 +5 MCGs Cytomel. On that dosage: 4.51 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L- TSH THYROXINE FREE 1.05 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.
Avatar f tn About 5 weeks ago my doctor added 5mcg of Cytomel twice a day. My anxiety, lethargy, ADD, depression, and hair loss have really calmed down but I still have a low body temperature - normally in the 96-97 range and my weight hasn't budged at all. I also am so bloated all the time - I am so uncomfortable in my body. Do I need to be on a higher dose of cytomel or should I may be looking into getting tested for insulin resistance?
Avatar f tn Even though health wise I felt better most of the time had issues with weight gain and most disturbing hair loss. I have almost gone bald and have been trying to adjust meds just to stop hair loss. 6 months back shifted to brand synthroid 62.5 mcg. Felt fine but hair loss didn't stop. Recently read a lot about cytomegalovirus so asked my endo about it. I am prescribed cytomegalovirus 5mcg + 50 mcg synthroid.
393685 tn?1425812522 What is the comparable dosage requirement from taking Armour thyroid to a Cytomel/Synthroid dosage. If a person was on 1 grain of Armour - what's the equvilant of Cytomel/Synthroid? Does anyone know the bovine ratios - compared to porcine? Either I am missing finding these questions out - or I am just to busy lately with everything else...
Avatar f tn Sorry, Im not very familiar with these numbers. I was unclear on the difference so I will say Total T3. I just saw the range was 0.04-0.57. I didn't know that that wasn't my actual number. The cytomel dosage is 5 mcg daily. My T4 was orginally way too low but bc I had been taken a higher dosage of levo it shot thru the roof and my level was too high. Im not sure of the number. I felt fine on the high dosage but the doc said it was dangerous.
Avatar f tn I had my bi-annual thyroid checkup and my doctor said I was on too much meds due to my weight loss and reduced me to a half Cytomel and 100 mcg Synthoid. Got tested again after 6 weeks and was told I was slightly high but could stay at that level. However I was feeling awful on that (really tired) so I talked to my doctor and agreed to going back to 25mcg Cytomel/75 mcg Synthroid.
822804 tn?1298226302 when you changed to NT did it affect your weight?I am scared to change because of that.I gained alot of weight until I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism - its very hard to take that weight off and I still haven't been able to get rid of any of it.Since taking the cytomel I have been able to lose a little bit.I would rather take NT.
Avatar n tn I have been on thyroid med since 1994, i think i have tried just about all of them, was on Armour Thyroid now my insurance want let me have it, couldn't really tell it did anythig for me tho. Now i am on brand name Synthroid a little expensive but they also want me to take cytomel very expensive haven't tried it yet just the Synthroid. It seems my weight keeps going up no matter what i am on, it is so frustrating.
Avatar n tn I just passed on a doctors appt today to do one of those non conventional weight loss things. I have about 25 more to lose and my impatience is growing tremdously. Yet I was so ill for years before getting optimal just shy a year ago this month. I took a step back and thought I need more time right now to maintain a healthy balance instead of reaching out again for something that may harm all the good that I am know having.
Avatar m tn When you were on 100 mcg Cytomel for weight loss, did it make you feel hyper at all? Did you lose weight while on it?
Avatar f tn Will adding cytomel to your levoxyl help with hair loss? This discussion is related to Cytomel in addition to Synthroid.
Avatar n tn If you are having rapid heart beats, shaky hands, diarrhea, etc, then perhaps your Cytomel dosage is too high. Call your doctor and demand a phone consult.
6555161 tn?1382381862 Ferritin: 33 (lab range 15-150) Free T3: 2.0 (lab value 2.0-4.4) So, yeah. WAY low in both. I've been doing good taking my iron at night, but was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for iron? I'm just taking 325 mg of Ferrous Sulfate (says 65mg underneath that) but not sure if i need a larger dose or if this is a good starting dose to build it up and see what it's like down the road some. Just asking if anyone has a favorite iron?
Avatar f tn When using both synthroid and cytomel, it's common to adjust them both at the same time or lower synthroid when adding cytomel. Cytomel is a T3 only med and is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and too high doses of either could very easily cause a swing to hypER. Cytomel is a fast acting med, but doesn't last in the body very long - so in effect, the doctor WAS raising her total dosage. Many people find that splitting the dose throughout the day helps.
Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
Avatar n tn My doctor put me on 88 mg. synthroid 6 days a week and 5mg. cytomel twice a day. I have more energy but I am still gaining weight. Any suggestions? I really am getting frustrated by this dieting and weight gain. This discussion is related to Thyroid medication and weight loss.
