cytomel

Avatar f tn my numbers are: TSH 2.3 (.40-4.00); Free T4 .73 (.70-1.8); Free T3 3.1 (2.3-5.0) My doses: Tirosint 50 mcg.; Cytomel 12 mcg/day My thyroid was destroyed roughly 8 years ago; the only problems I have is hair loss and weight gain - I don't overeat, I exercise - I don't eat processed foods - I could eat 1200 calories a day - good calories and put on weight. I grow most of what I eat. Help! I am 65.
Avatar f tn Ask for the cytomel in 5 mcg tabs - then you can split the dosage much easier.......Mine are 5 mcg, which worked out perfectly when I was on 10 mcg/day - I could take one first thing in the morning, then another later in the morning, without having to split pills. Now that I'm down to 5 mcg/day, I still don't have to split the pills - they just last twice as long......... To get the 12.5, you will have to go with 1.5 pill twice/day, unless you can get it dropped to just 10 mcg/day.....
Avatar f tn Today I had my blood drawn for a check on my levels and the doctor wants to change my dosage. He said my TSH levels are too high. Arrrggghhh! I've worked so hard to keep my weight maintained and now he wants to change it again! He wants to increase me to 12 mcg and I am worried it will cause weight gain again. I have spent a lot of money going through clothes during this period and that may sound petty, but I don't have a money tree in my back yard!
Avatar f tn Armour has made a huge difference for me. I was first put on Levoxyl, which did nothing for my symptoms, but gave me great labs. I eventually added Cytomel o the Levoxyl and it helped with about 75% of my symptoms. After 2 years I decided I wanted to try Armour. Armour helped with 95% of my symptoms. Make sure if you go on it that the doctor adjusts it by free t4 and free t3, not by TSH.
Avatar n tn The Thyroid Disorders Community is a great place to be as you work through stabilizing your medication regimen. I have the priviledge of knowing several of the members in this community and have found them to be most knowledgeable, caring, helpful and supportive. There is also an excellent Thyroid Tracker available as well! I see you are struggling with some weight issues, which can be common with various thyroid disorders.
Avatar f tn We switched to 175 of Synthroid and she asked me to keep an eye out for symptoms of hyper as that dosage should be more than enough for full replacement at my weight if there were no absorption issues. On that dosage of Synthroid: TSH 23.50 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L THYROXINE FREE 0.86 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL She upped the Synthroid to 200 +5 MCGs Cytomel. On that dosage: 4.51 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L- TSH THYROXINE FREE 1.05 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.
Avatar f tn T4 is a prohormone and less active when compared to T3 - this is the reason why many patients with hypothyroidism on Synthroid fail to lose the excess body weight. For increasing the basal metabolic rate (BMR) which is required for weight loss, T3 is more important than T4. Higher your T3 levels, the better your BMR. Cytomel is therefore added to Synthroid to effect weight reduction. The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day.
Avatar n tn There is no way you would become hyper from such a small amount of cytomel. You need to commit to a plan for dosage and increases and stick with it unless there is some unforeseen reaction you cannot tolerate short term, which is not likely with your cortisol and ferritin levels.
Avatar f tn Even though health wise I felt better most of the time had issues with weight gain and most disturbing hair loss. I have almost gone bald and have been trying to adjust meds just to stop hair loss. 6 months back shifted to brand synthroid 62.5 mcg. Felt fine but hair loss didn't stop. Recently read a lot about cytomegalovirus so asked my endo about it. I am prescribed cytomegalovirus 5mcg + 50 mcg synthroid.
Avatar m tn Your FT3 is way higher than the upper end of the range and your T4 (is that Free or Total? They aren't the same test) is on the floor of its range. Are you only taking cytomel? If so, why? It's very rare for any doctor to prescribe only a T3 med for long term use. If you're on a T4 med, which one, what dosage and for how long? Do you have symptoms of over medication? Those could include rapid weight loss, diarrhea, heart palps, rapid heart rate, etc.
Avatar f tn I had my bi-annual thyroid checkup and my doctor said I was on too much meds due to my weight loss and reduced me to a half Cytomel and 100 mcg Synthoid. Got tested again after 6 weeks and was told I was slightly high but could stay at that level. However I was feeling awful on that (really tired) so I talked to my doctor and agreed to going back to 25mcg Cytomel/75 mcg Synthroid.
Avatar f tn MY QUESTION--has anyone else used the addition of T3 to your usual T4 treatment? Did this help with weight loss/swelling? Did it help to balance out the T3 in general--or make things worse? Any feedback (good or bad) is welcome. Thank you! Below are my labs for reference--- TSH 0.615 (0.450-4.500) Free T4 1 .30 (0.82-1.77) Free T3 2.8 (2.0-4.4) Vita D 43.
Avatar f tn Sorry, Im not very familiar with these numbers. I was unclear on the difference so I will say Total T3. I just saw the range was 0.04-0.57. I didn't know that that wasn't my actual number. The cytomel dosage is 5 mcg daily. My T4 was orginally way too low but bc I had been taken a higher dosage of levo it shot thru the roof and my level was too high. Im not sure of the number. I felt fine on the high dosage but the doc said it was dangerous.
Avatar n tn What dosage are you on? What kind of stomach issues are you having? Could it be that your dose is higher than you need? Do you take your whole dose at once or split it throughout the day? Of course, we are all different and meds affect us each differently, but I've been on generic T3 for almost 2 yrs and do fine; however, when I first began taking it, I was on a higher dosage and also had stomach issues. Once the dosage was cut back, I no longer had the issues.
Avatar n tn You might slip on over to Weight Loss and Dieting for a little extra help. There are some people over there that have great ideas and lots of support, along with games, challenges, to make the whole process fun. I will be going to a new endo at the end of Jan and I was wondering if adding cytomel to my synthroid might be an option too.
Avatar m tn When you were on 100 mcg Cytomel for weight loss, did it make you feel hyper at all? Did you lose weight while on it?
Avatar f tn Will adding cytomel to your levoxyl help with hair loss? This discussion is related to Cytomel in addition to Synthroid.
6555161 tn?1382381862 Ferritin: 33 (lab range 15-150) Free T3: 2.0 (lab value 2.0-4.4) So, yeah. WAY low in both. I've been doing good taking my iron at night, but was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for iron? I'm just taking 325 mg of Ferrous Sulfate (says 65mg underneath that) but not sure if i need a larger dose or if this is a good starting dose to build it up and see what it's like down the road some. Just asking if anyone has a favorite iron?
Avatar f tn If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Hi ....Is there anyone on cytomel for hypothyroidism? How long does it take to work? I have put on about 10 pounds slowly even though I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week for 5 out of last 6 months. Then finally about a month ago I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At least now I know the reason for weight gain. I just started on 25 mcg of cytomel. I can't wait for it to start working. Just this week I started burning at least 500 calories a day by exercising ....
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
