267288 tn?1256278177 Does anyone know what the equivalent dosage of Armour is to 1.25 mg and 1.0 mg levothyroxine respectively? Also, if anyone knows the equivalent Armour to 1.0 mg levothyroxine/ .25 mg Cytomel... Thank you very much in advance....
8382486 tn?1397856353 Free T4 1.35 / Free T3 2.8 / TSH 0.03. I have read pages and pages and blogs and boards and everything else I can get my hands on about thryoid meds and am so confused. I feel marginally better taking the Cytomel but dont know when to take it, with or without food, with or without my Synthroid. Im back to work now and looking for a routine that I can keep to as far as taking the meds, some energy back in my life and the right questions to ask the MD or requests to make about medication changes.
Avatar n tn You might consider going up to 5mcg's of Cytomel. Usually the dosage of Cytomel is 5-10% of the T4 dosage and at 2.5 you are taking less than that. Plus, your free t3 has room to move up. Most feel best with a free t3 over 350.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn 4.51 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L- TSH THYROXINE FREE 1.05 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL- Free T4 She decided that malabsorption must be playing a role in high doses with minimal response. She had me see a GI to get tested for Celiac. 3 of the 4 tests came back positive. However, the endoscopy did not show any signs of damage at this point that would be preventing me from absorbing or continuing to eat Gluten (I do not have negative physical symptoms from consuming gluten).
Avatar f tn Sorry, Im not very familiar with these numbers. I was unclear on the difference so I will say Total T3. I just saw the range was 0.04-0.57. I didn't know that that wasn't my actual number. The cytomel dosage is 5 mcg daily. My T4 was orginally way too low but bc I had been taken a higher dosage of levo it shot thru the roof and my level was too high. Im not sure of the number. I felt fine on the high dosage but the doc said it was dangerous.
2033435 tn?1329943508 5 (32-100) ~ low Will the dosage I was supposed to take improve my labs and feeling? (upping Cytomel only, not adding T4 at all). On the wrong dose, I still felt tired although better than before... probably because the RT3 got normal again. I inquired about the low T4 and he almost wanted to add Armour to Cytomel, but I said I didn't feel well on it. He said okay, Cytomel only is fine, he said T4 should not worry me (even though it's low). He told me to take iron and vitamin D...
Avatar f tn I agree with barb about how to take Cytomel. I just have to question the meds and dosage. Why did the doctor decide to prescribe Cytomel only and why start with such a large amount? The daily dosage of 50 mcg of Cytomel is the equivalent of 200 mcg of a T4 med. In addition, Cytomel (T3) is such a fast acting med that I can easily envision unwanted reactions. Many of our members report on adverse reaction to such a large dosage.
Avatar f tn Patience is not my long suit. But as soon as Endo saw this, he increase my generic Cytomel to your dosage 5 mcg twice a day. He did not touch the T4 despite the low level. Hopefully this will work for me as well. Thanks for your thoughts. Always appreciated. My question was just about the unusual jump from 5 to 25 by the manufacturer. I realize just add another but was curious about those who need more than 10. I guess 25 would be good if someone needs 50mcg a day.
1040628 tn?1268654906 Maybe he wants to see how you go on Cytomel. And yes it is correct that T3 supplements can cause hyper and arrythmias. It all depends on the dosage and the person in particular. Some do great on Cytomel..some dont. Take the T4 med for 4-6 weeks...check to see if the T4 is converting to T3 and if not, then ask for Cytomel too. Maybe your labs showed your T3 too high and your T4 a fraction low??? What was your last labs?
Avatar f tn Would 180 mg be the suggested lowering dosage and then get another blood test? What would you suggest for synthroid/cytomel dosage to start. I tried synthroid in between my armour thyroid and ended up having menstrual bleeding (which I haven't had in quite some time after oblation proceedure ) and having a D&C. I don't know if synthroid caused this and I wasn't on the right dosage or if it was just a coincidence. I am 57 years old.
Avatar n tn And then had to do teh labs every 6 weeks to make sure I was on correct dosage. Cytomel is very potent. I was on 120mgs of armour. I am now up to 100 mcg synthroid and 15 mcg cytomel.
Avatar n tn Hi - apparently this Cytomel is very potent stuff, this is what is seem to need. What are the side effects and how effective is it when used correctly. My metabolism is very delicate and I see why it is prescribed in small amounts. I am just disgusted with medical viewpoints and when I go in there to see them they don't seem to know too much about thyroid problems.
393685 tn?1425812522 What is the comparable dosage requirement from taking Armour thyroid to a Cytomel/Synthroid dosage. If a person was on 1 grain of Armour - what's the equvilant of Cytomel/Synthroid? Does anyone know the bovine ratios - compared to porcine? Either I am missing finding these questions out - or I am just to busy lately with everything else...
Avatar m tn After reading an article about Cytomel and speaking with my endocrinologist, he added Cytomel to my treatment. Recently he decided to reduce my Cytomel dosage by 1/2. Since that change, I have less energy and can't seem to stay awake. Could the lower dosage be the cause?
Avatar f tn hello all I started on cytomel with some positive results. I am still not feeling well but it seems that my levels are still not were they should be I suppose. Can someone offer me some more advice? Here are my new levels: TSH .67 Free t3 3.05 Free t4 .072 I still feel very tired and somewhat depressed. My endo will give me medicine but will not offer any advice on what I should be taking.
Avatar m tn They should habe immediately lowered your levo dosage when they gave you the script for cytomel. Check again on the script for the cytomel. Starting dosage is usually 5mgs two times per day, with lowered dosage of T4 med by 25mcgs I think. Yes it is nice to hear they are jointly working together to get you better!
Avatar n tn Hi there! How high is your dosage of cytomel that you are taking? Are you splitting that dosage in half and taking half in morning with the other half in the afternoon? Cytomel is very short acting and needs to be split. I split mine and take first thing in AM with my T4 med and then take the other half around 5-6 hours later. I crash and get very fatigued in the afternoons if I forget to take it.
1058524 tn?1285187240 I'm on cytomel, along with my levo -- I take my levo when I get up at 3:30 am, then my cytomel around 7:00 am. I'm only on 5 mcg/day, so with your dosage, you may have to either take that second dose earlier -- before the "2:00 slump" or split it up and take 1/2 at noon and 1/2 in the evening, like Tamra suggested. If I take my cytomel too late in the day, I don't sleep at night either.
Avatar m tn The blood levels I just posted have not changed since last time even though I had a dosage increase. I go through periods where I feel great right after the dosage increase & then gradually it dissipates to feeling crummy again until they increase again. I am very frustrated that I haven't reached that perfect dosage yet after a year of treatment. Your thoughts?
Avatar n tn I think I would wait to see what dosage your doctor is going to put you on. I wouldn't try to self dosage at all. If he had you on cytomel before, then he should have a good idea of what you need.
