Cytomel controversy

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel controversy

cytomel

Avatar f tn There is a lot of controversy on Iodine and Hashimoto patients. I personally know health practitioners who teach to stay away from all iodine while you are in destruction phase of Hashimoto's. It will agravate your symptoms and make the inflammation increase. Are you on thyroid meds as well? If so you should never take thyroid meds and a Thyroid support supplement as well. What kind of Dr are you seeing for this?
Avatar m tn It is counter-productive and is just causing more controversy between all of the great folks on here. You are ALL caring and wonderful people, so please get back to helping each other which you do so well. I think posting to try to get lasherslaugh back on here is, of course, of high priority, and should be continued. She needs you ALL. If you agree with me, please do not respond to me or bring up the controvery.
Avatar f tn I am on .137mg now and just recently been put on Cytomel 5mcg twice daily. I had to basically have a breakdown infront of my endocrinologist to have him let me try this. My endocrinologist had only taken my TSH for years. Until recently, after having so many ups and downs (BAD MOOD SWINGS) and panic attacks, I saw an chiropractor neurologist and he told me that I needed a full thyroid blood work up and could not believe that my specialist had not done so.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has suggested considering Cytomel but i have not yet started it. I have been tired, depressed, tearful, had infections, unidentified back pain x 5 months. I am a nurse parctitioner in psychiatry and still don't understand all the thyroid controversy. It was suggested i have thyroid antibodies checked for autoimmune issues- especially since i have had panic disorder since early 20's. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Hello all! I had a TT 4 yrs ago. It's been a struggle, not once have I felt my hypo symptons disappear. My doctor will only test TSH, as well my endo agrees with this. My tsh as been gradually going up, I just had it tested its 8 now. Three months ago, I believe it was at 6. I know not a reliable blood test but it's all I've got right now. Anyway, my dr called yesterday and told me once again she was increasing my synthroid it's at.150 to .200.
574118 tn?1305135284 OK the story for many of us proceeds as follows: depression comes first; and your family becomes concerned (because nobody when elated consults a pdoc), so you start on an AD even with a little of AP and eventually a mistake occurs (stresses, any trigger...) and mania arrives. Usually at the onset of the disease mania is euphoric and in a way pleasant.
4489079 tn?1360957203 I have recently changed from an Endo to a holistic M.D. and he is wanting to switch me from my current Levo ( 50 mcg ) and ( 15 mcg ) of Cytomel to Armour. I've been doing research and am very interested in trying it. Here is my dilemma...Each time my Endo changed my dose of Levo, I went through hell, emotional and physical. The one symptom I've had since the very beginning is my complete intolerance to cold. I am frozen solid no matter the season!
Avatar m tn My Endo told me that my Synthroid dosage will likely start out at 125, but they prescribed 25 mg of Cytomel taken twice a day, which I started today. Cytomel is more fast acting and leaves the system faster, which is why I think they prescribed it. I am also having Thyrogen injections for my scans/RAI and all the research that I've done indicates that in combination with the LID it is equally effective as going Hypo.
Avatar n tn If not, why are you on T3-only med (Cytomel)? What were your labs a week ago before going on the Cytomel, and were you on any other meds then?
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn She told me she was 20 lbs over weights due to being hypo and was only be able to loose few lbs even with teaching many aerobic classes and eating healthy until she heard of Cytomel. She started taking 25mcg of Cytomel 4 yrs ago and noticed the fat melted quickly. She is now at her ideal weight and very fit.
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.
Avatar f tn I thought that the generic cytomel was exactly as the brand cytomel. no difference what so ever. I thought I read this somewhere in these forums???? i am on the generic for 3 weeks now and I really feel no different. the doc gave me 25 mg of cytomel to add to my 75mcg of synthroid. advice from you guys, so I cut my synthroid in half and taking only 6 mcg of cytomel. but I have been taking 1/2 of cytomel in the morning and breaking the other half in two. so yeah that is 25 mg.
1956603 tn?1325036186 My doctor added the Cytomel around Dec 28th, I believe. I took the Tirosint first thing in the am with one 5mcg Cytomel and then took the other 5mcg Cytomel between 1-3 pm. I had been on Tirosint 150 mcg for several months prior to the Cytomel. I'm not sure what the change was between the past two results, but I am glad it happened. This is the best I have felt in years! My doctor would like to lower the Tirosint to 137 mcg but keep the Cytomel the same.
407745 tn?1230850087 I am taking Synthroid 100 MCG & Cytomel 5MCG what happens when you have too much T3 ? i have been looking for a new endrcrinologis, the dr.
Avatar n tn d have to reduce the amount of levo and replace with an equivalent amount of Cytomel (1/4 the Cytomel for the reduction in levo, e.g. drop the levo to 100 mcg and add 12.5 mcg Cytomel).
252327 tn?1250183976 Before cytomel I was tired , brain fog, joint pain. Cytomel gave me no palputaions..nothing..
Avatar f tn I have been on thie Synthroid for over 15years. I have been on the Cytomel for about 10 years. I feel like the Cytomel is a waste of money. I was thinking about gradually dropping it to see if I notice any changes. I feel that 5 mg is hardly enough to notice a difference. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to stabilize or to notice the change. I have forgotten to take it on occasion and I don't notice a difference in energy.
Avatar f tn First day of taking generic Cytomel 5mg. Feeling tired after the second dose. Is this normal???
