Cytomel calcium

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel calcium

cytomel

451191 tn?1264432890 ve been having the calcium tingles for the last few days that subside when I take a bunch of calcium/Vitamin D. Question is- how am I supposed to take both Cytomel and Calcium? Literature says not to take within 4 hours of eachother, but I figure I still have natural hormone in my body so getting my Calcium up is probably more important, right?
Avatar f tn I agree that you should not take calcium supplements, etc for 4 hours after taking thyroid med; however, I'm not convinced that a bit of milk in your morning coffee is going to mess things up much, if at all. Read the information sheet that came with your cytomel. Mine says it can be taken "with or without food". Levothyroxine, which is a T4 med, should be taken on an empty stomach at least an hour before eating; however, I don't believe that holds true for cytomel.
299033 tn?1393301417 Unlike T4 meds (Levothroid), cytomel does not have to be taken on an empty stomach. I don't think the calcium in the yogurt is enough to interfere with your cytomel. Are you splitting your cytomel dosage into more than one/day? Most of us find that it works better than way. You should NOT take calcium/mineral supplements within 4 hours of any thyroid hormone medication. I know you need the minerals for your BC, but can you start taking those in afternoon/evening?
197575 tn?1215532624 Another question- do I have to wait to take calcium when taking cytomel only? Also, I haven't been waiting the 30 min to eat- the directions didn't say anything about that.
Avatar f tn I have recently started to take the Cytomel at 8am and again at 1pm. I take my calcium at 6pm and 9pm in the evening. I have always taken my multivitamin at noon. My multivitamin has some calcium in it . Will it interfere with my Cytomel? Should I take my multivitamin at 6 with my dinner?
694885 tn?1232649948 Any generic T4 med is very inexpensive. However, Cytomel, a T3 drug, not so much. The Cytomel, to ease your mind, you will only be taking for a very short time. You take this prior to your surgery and pre-RAI only. Because T3's short lived in the body (about 4 hours), they can take you off of any T4 meds early, prior to surgery. Then they don't have to wait and weene you off post surgery and wait for RAI. Because of this, you will be quickly ready for RAI.
Avatar f tn I have now been prescribed a lower dose of synthroid (100mcg) once a day, and 5mcg of cytomel 2x a day since my conversion was not doing well. My question is how do people take cytomel twice a day when you also have to take iron and calcium? I can take the first dose in the morning on an empty stomach with my synthroid and wait half an hour to an hour before breakfast. I usually take my iron at lunch an calcium at supper.
Avatar f tn Says right on the bottle do not take any antacids, iron or calcium supplements within 4 hours of taking Cytomel. One reason why I'm glad I'm. It taking it anymore. Just thought I would throw this out there because that is what messed me up.
186166 tn?1385259382 left lobe was removed. surgery went well...calcium levels didnt drop. my pain level is NOT good...but i havent taken anything since the afternoon of the surgery, due to the fact that the morphine they gave me made me itch soooooo bad that i scratched raw places all over my body. the added benadryl didnt work either. saturday morning was told that i could leave that day and was given my first dose of cytomel (25). within 30 minutes i felt "loopy" and my head started to pound.
744962 tn?1270942038 I was on 50 mcg levothyroxin and10 mcg cytomel and I took the cytomel in 2 doses - the first with my levothyroxin first thing in the morning, the second about 10:00. I should tell you that MY "first thing in the morning" is at 3:00 am......... So the second dose of cytomel was approx 7 hrs after the first and that seemed to get me through the day okay.
Avatar f tn I know I have to wait at least 4 hours after the synthroid and cytomel, but does introducing calcium supplementation change thyroid levels. Should I get retested in 6 weeks. I thought I read somewhere that calcium stay in th e blood an could change thyroid levels regardless of when you take it. Also, anyone try Maca or l-tyrosine?
Avatar n tn Hi, I was taking the phendimetrizine before with my syn, was working pretty well, with no heart rhythm problems, but I have just gotten cytomel added to my agenda on Friday and have not taken the phen since, because I was not sure, but in reference to the cytomel, does this have to be taken on empty stomach and does calcium affect, kinda like the syn--and can the syn and cytomel be taken at the same time, or should I take one in the am and one in the pm?? I am on 5mcg of cytomel and 0.
Avatar f tn The inactive ingredients in Cytomel consist of calcium sulfate, gelatin, starch, stearic acid, sucrose and talc. No microcrystalline filler shown. You can get Cytomel, or generic, in 5 mcg tablet. That should be a small enough increment for you to titrate your dosage slowly. With that small amount, why would you need to go to a TR version? Did the hives show up right after you switched?
Avatar n tn I have been taking them together in the morning an hour before any other medications, foods and 6 hours before any iron, calcium, or zinc. Should the Synthroid be taken by itself completely? I can take the Cytomel with breakfast and other meds later in the day, but wondered if taking the Cytomel at the exact same time as the Synthroid was somehow lowering the effectiveness/absorbtion of the Synthroid.
Avatar f tn 00 am -- cytomel; 12:00 -- blood pressure med, calcium, selenium, Vit C; 6:00 pm -- calcium, magnesium, Vit C. Bed time is around 7:00-7:30 pm......... Everyone will react to the med differently, and you will have to figure out a schedule that works best for YOU. Be sure to read the insert that comes with the med because that will tell you whether or not you can take it with food, vitamins, etc.
Avatar n tn I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately. I also started getting slightly sick in the morning about an hour after taking the Synthroid. My last blood test showed TSH of 0.1mIU/L.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn It says take it once a day in the morning, It is a small dose because I can't have high lvls when I get the RAIT and I can't split it anyway. I have to take 8 calcium pills throughout the day. I have to get up at 8 or earlier just to take the cytomel so i can take my calcium before noon. You can't take any calcium within 4 hours of taking Cytomel. And I have to take 4 in the morning and 4 at night.
Avatar f tn I had a thyrodectemy in April 2016. I was still having symptoms but not gaining weight. My Dr. decided to add cytomel, which I am excited about. So my Dr. lowered my synthroid to 125 mg 6x's a week and 5 mg of cytomel 4x's a week. I am also taking calcium twice a day at 600mg and 40,000 IU once a week with calcitrol twice a day as well. At first I was getting anxiety as a result of taking cytomel, but everytime I took my calcitrol I became so tired. My Dr.
744962 tn?1270942038 00 am to take my cytomel (5 mcg). By taking the cytomel later, I have enough energy to make it through the day. You could even take yours later if you want to, depending on when you go to bed -- make sure you take it early enough so it's worn off by bed time.
Avatar m tn Smiler - in December 2009 you posted about solving conversion problems with calcium, vit D and B12. There is still no cytomel in Guatemala. Could I please beg a repeat of your post?
Avatar f tn His recommendation is to move to 112 mcg of Tirosint and to drop the cytomel. His explanation was that calcium levels do things to thyroid med absorption, but you never know if it will be up or down. He also says the tirosint absorbs better). I am nervous going off the cytomel as that really seemed to make a huge difference when I took it. I did take a day off meds to try and lower my levels a bit and I did feel better by wee hours of the next day (little bit of insomnia now).
1165078 tn?1338655745 Should my Doc be telling me to take the first dose of the day, of my Cytomel WITH my Levoxyl? Isn't that a contradiction to having to take the T4 med on an empty tummy with only water and then keep it empty for least an hour? (2-3 hrs for me since I have SUCH a slow metabolism)..
Avatar m tn Do you have the range for your FT4? Ranges are lab specific so have to come from your own lab report. Did your doctor test FT3 as well? What were you taking prior to the 50 mcg Cytomel and 50 mcg Synthroid? When he d/c'd the Cytomel, did he change your Synthroid as well? Sorry to ask so many questions, but need to know.
Avatar f tn Hi, I met a lady at the gym last week who happens to have thyroid disorder as well. She is hypo, however she looks great, she told me she used to have a hard time loosing weight even exercise daily. Her doctor precribed Cytomel at low dose with Synthroid and she said she started loosing weight easier. I heard a lot of hypo patients complain of weight gain or unable to loose weight, but don't hear much of patient taking Cytomel. Is there a reason why doctors don't prescribe Cytomel much?
Avatar f tn I take my levoyxl at 5 am, I guess I can add the 5mcg of cytomel then and take the other 5mcg of cytomel at 2pm like you suggested. Do you think that would be alright?
Avatar n tn I have seen a few patients whose muslce pains/cramps improve w/ adding a low dose of cytomel (ie 5mcg). There is not a clear answer. Would also consider calcium and magesium check depending on the clinical situation.
