Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel benefits

cytomel

1205917 tn?1265745553 I have read a number of conflicting studies and reports concerning the benefits of T4/T3 combination, as well as reports describing the benefits of cytomel. I also have had a personal report of a person with hypothyroid who used the T3 drug Cytomel in combination with Synthroid. I have yet to try it, and cannot find a doctor who will give it a chance.

Avatar n tn I am looking for information I can show my doctor about the benefits of adding t3 to my synthroid. I am still suffering from fatigue and irritability on t4 alone.
Avatar f tn The above labs were while on 88 mcg levo and 10 mcg of Cytomel. [I was resistant to conversion form T4 to T3]. We have upped the dose to 15 mcg of Cytomel and downed the levo to 75 mcg. My internist has been good working we me, as I was getting no where with an endo here in TX. I did consult with, and may again after the 1st of year with an endo in CA. He had mentioned we could compound the T4/T3 in a slow release capsule, but didn't know if my insurance would pay.
Avatar n tn said if I go on the trip, he will have to start me on Synthroid instead of Cytomel (T3) if I wait to do the RAI until I come back. Should I cancel my trip and do the T3 which I understand is a temporary treatment for thyroid cancer patients who are preparing for radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy. Any advice? What are the benefits of doing the T3 vs. the Synthroid?
Avatar f tn The studies regarding the benefits of Cytomel are few, a pharmacist friend of mine found one, with numerous studies suggesting there was no benefit. Basically if you feel better on Cytomel, stay on it. My daughter takes both Synthroid and Cytomel and feels better with the Cytomel. I, myself, take just Synthroid.
1518372 tn?1291011648 I don't have a thyroid anymore.. my synthyroid script cost me about $220 a month w/o insurance.. y can't my Dr just prescribe me cytomel.. right after my surgery I was on 25mcg cytomel twice a day and have never felt so normal in my life with the clearity in my head, the energy I had, the motivation I had to do things, the ability to listen to my Bio rhythm and go to sleep at a decent hr and wake up at a decent hr but ever scence then I have never felt that and yearn for it..
Avatar n tn I had all the symptoms fatigue, dry skin, weight gain, and swelling. I was started on Synthroid 25mcgs and am now on Synthroid 75mgs. Additionally, Cytomel was added 3 months ago at 5 mcgs and increased 6 weeks ago to 25mcgs. I know that I feel much better with the addition of the T3. I have much more energy. My current labs were FT3 2.85, FT4 .9, and TSH .009. I had a little beat of heat intolerance but it has since past.
Avatar f tn I called him back the next week and told him I wanted to stay on 100mcg of Levoxyl along with the Cytomel...he agreed. I still knew not to take the full 25mg of cytomel after the last weeks experience so I began taking 100mcg levoxyl and 1/4 of a 25mg cytomel pill (I cut it 4 ways) once a day for a week then went up to a half pill a day for a week and so on till I got to 25mg of CYTOMEL safely. I took this dose (25mg cytomel and 100mcg of levoxyl) for about a month and felt much better..
Avatar f tn Hello all! I had a TT 4 yrs ago. It's been a struggle, not once have I felt my hypo symptons disappear. My doctor will only test TSH, as well my endo agrees with this. My tsh as been gradually going up, I just had it tested its 8 now. Three months ago, I believe it was at 6. I know not a reliable blood test but it's all I've got right now. Anyway, my dr called yesterday and told me once again she was increasing my synthroid it's at.150 to .200.
Avatar n tn I cannot see the doctor until late next week and I feel I need to get back on cytomel (T3). How should I switch back to cytomel without doing a lot more damgae to my adrenals? Should I taper the armour while adding the cytomel? Or should I go off all of the armour asap?
1369218 tn?1282423884 I have been doing Synthroid/Cytomel for about a year now. I do not really feel better. The more Cytomel I take, the more racey my heart feels. I was on 5mcg twice a day and felt like my heart was coming out of my chest. I then lowered back to just 5mcg and now have hypo symptoms again. My last labs were: TSH 1.47 (0.40-4.50) Free T3 2.6 (2.3-4.2) Free T4 1.4 (0.8-1.8) My Free T3 looks awful, pretty much how I feel!
Avatar f tn ve already applied for medicaid cash assistance and food card but my sister was telling me i should do some research because given my situation i should qualify for more benefits like free diapers and what not.
Avatar f tn I had the TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 plus Anti Thyroglobulin level and Anti Thyroid Peroixidase tests done - my T3 is low and hope to introduce Cytomel soon but since I now live in Asia am trying to get hold of Cytomel T3. I also do Qigong and jumping exercises early in the morning that has helped to lesson the swelling as it is a way to activate the lymphatic system. I also drink 6 glasses of water per day - when I have more my legs swell and when I have less the same happens.
927140 tn?1244210051 I just went to an endocronologist and he has put me on Cytomel and then I'm already on Synthroid and Celexa. In two weeks he is wanting me to start on Phentermine. I have had lots of weight gain. I'm a little concerned about these BIG changes, but I do want help. Has anybody heard of this combination in meds?
Avatar f tn currently on synthroid and to shut me up this doctor put me on cytomel 5 msg...when I convinced him to look at my blood work he drew and he finally relized my T3 was low..his version "oh your body is not converting t4 into t3 any more...here is 5 mcg cytomel, come back in 8 weeks for blood work again. numbers tsh .757 range .5 to 6. .... T3 .85 range .7 to 1.70.... T4 1.77 range .93 to 1.70 the last doc kept my tsh's around 4.
Avatar m tn No argument about the benefits of Armour. I am now on it myself. Whenever I read articles like this I always try to assess whether the author's views might be based on some ulterior motive. In this particular case, I'd have to take into account that he is promoting his own therapy and practice.
1211076 tn?1303519440 Hi all! Went to see new endo today and just a refresher...still not feeling well after TT Dec 09. On Synthroid 125mcg. Showed her my latest bloodwork from beginning of September and she said she thought it was fine. I explained my symptoms...tired, anxious, depression, brain fog..(I think the depression comes from sick of being sick!), dizziness at times. When I explained and showed her that the T4 is 1.6 Range is 0.8 to 1.7 (high end of range) and T3 Total is low @ 91 Range is 104 to 260....
Avatar n tn Do you think the pneumonia was related to the Cytomel? Why were you taken off the Cytomel? If FT4 levels are too high and FT3 levels are too low, you are still going to feel hypo since T3 is what your cells can use. If your doctor has recommended trying selenium, I think I'd follow his suggestions. However, I also think you need to add Cytomel back into your meds, which may necessitate your dropping your Levoxyl a bit at the same time.
Avatar m tn hello, my name is Ngok (pronounced EN-gik, with the emphasis on the "gik") and my family was fortunate enough to escape the pol pot regime a long, long time ago. we also had our run-ins with the bay of pigs crisis. but none of these political calamities caused physical illness, i don't believe, just some emotional scarring, perhaps... i found a great endo and he was able to get my TSH down to a respectable value by eventually tweaking my levothyroxine dose to 100 mcg even.
19024797 tn?1471291132 Hello, I've been on generic Levoxyl for 15yrs. for Graves Disease...my T3 is low at 2.0 (range 2.0-4.8) I've tried a T3 supplement called Medi-stim and a Adrenal support supplement for a month now but absolutely no change as fas as the tiredness, foggy, sluggish feeling I've had for years. I'd like to start on Cytomel 5mcg..to bring up my T3. Can I take it at the same time as my morning Levoxyl? or when is the optimal time to take it? I'm also on Vit D 5,000 my level is 55.
Avatar n tn My free is much lower than yours, though. Unfortunately, my TSH jumped to 5.1 and I have yet to reap the possible benefits of a lower TSH. You don't have much room to move on the freet4, but the t3 is still on the low side. How about asking for a trial of Cytomel in a very low dose? The thyroid antibodies being positive may mean you have Hashimoto's, which could in the future turn into hypothyroidism.
