Cytomel and weight loss tablets

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and weight loss tablets

cytomel

Avatar n tn I wouldn't advise adding cytomel without knowing what your actual thyroid levels are -- that's Free T4, Free T3 and TSH. T3 med (cytomel) is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and it can really throw you for a loop if you don't need it. It can cause very rapid heart rate, palps, etc. Whenever cytomel is added, the T4 med should be dropped accordingly. Did you receive the cytomel from your doctor or as a script? What did your doctor say about adding it?
Avatar f tn While on the cytomel, I was losing weight, about 5-6 pounds per week, (lost 23 pounds and was thrilled with this!) had energy, and was able to sleep through the night, which has been a rarity the last few years, and my boyfriend says I don't snore anymore!! I told the endos this that told me to get off the cytomel, that I was feeling so much better, etc. and they still said to get off of it immediately.
Avatar f tn There really is no "fast" way to lose weight and keep it off. Weight loss is a combination of healthy diet and adequate exercise. The problem with the use of pills, is that, while one might lose weight on them, the weight will sure come back as soon as the pills are stopped, often adding even more weight than when the diet was begun. Many of the diet pills currently on the market can raise blood pressure to dangerous levels, and can also affect the efficiency of other organs.
Avatar n tn If you are on a synthetic T4 drug like Synthroid and you are not taking a T3 drug like Cytomel, then you may need to find an endo who will test and treat the FT3 levels, so that you can lose the weight.
6555161 tn?1382381862 Ferritin: 33 (lab range 15-150) Free T3: 2.0 (lab value 2.0-4.4) So, yeah. WAY low in both. I've been doing good taking my iron at night, but was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for iron? I'm just taking 325 mg of Ferrous Sulfate (says 65mg underneath that) but not sure if i need a larger dose or if this is a good starting dose to build it up and see what it's like down the road some. Just asking if anyone has a favorite iron?
Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn There have been different side effects for different mood stabilizers. Some antidepressants cause weight gain while others cause weight loss, some cause hair loss, some cause even more elevated mood. Definitely ask your doctor though if you are concerned about it so you might be able to get on a different kind.
Avatar f tn only issue is that absorption can sometimes be altered if the medication is taken with food. Weight loss boils down to calories in and calories out -- cytomel will not likely help with weight.
Avatar f tn potato, carrots, anything that grows below the ground I will have instant weight on in one day (and its not water weight) and takes a week of severe dieting to lose it. Any help would be greatly be appreciated.
822804 tn?1298226302 I was dx'd with hypO in Jun 08 and with Hashi's in Oct 08. I was on synthroid until Jan 09, at which time I was changed to levothyroxine + cytomel. I have not been able to lose anything on either regimen. I continue to watch my diet and exercise in hopes that one day I will be able to get rid of at least a small amount. Don't give up. I'm told that when the thyroid levels are right, the weight will come off.
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
894666 tn?1274097896 Has anyone ever had a similar problem. If it is the cytomel, I think I need to stop taking it. I was hoping it would help with weight loss, which is has not.
822804 tn?1298226302 I am 27 years old and am hypothryoid currently taking Synthroid 150mcg and Cytomel 25mcg but am only taking 1/2 tablet daily.I am experiencing hair loss now...larger than normal clumps are in my hairbrush after brushing my hair and I am also losing hair throughout the day, strands here and there.Would this mean that my meds need to be increased or decreased?what should I do?I do not have a thyroid anymore - i had a total thyroidectomy a little over a year ago.
Avatar m tn Weight loss drugs often do not work, long term. Vitamin B12 does nothing for weight loss; except maybe give you more energy to exercise.
Avatar f tn About 5 weeks ago my doctor added 5mcg of Cytomel twice a day. My anxiety, lethargy, ADD, depression, and hair loss have really calmed down but I still have a low body temperature - normally in the 96-97 range and my weight hasn't budged at all. I also am so bloated all the time - I am so uncomfortable in my body. Do I need to be on a higher dose of cytomel or should I may be looking into getting tested for insulin resistance?
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
Avatar f tn I went to physician weight loss two years ago and loss 75 pds. I have since gained 38 of the 75 pds. Never did my first doctor suggest to go to an endo/thyroid specialist. I complained about my weight, fatigue, and tiredness before but it fell on deaf ears. I thought it was something that I was doing wrong. So when I got off of physician weight loss I thought all I had to do was continue with exercise and a controlled diet. I was wrong.
Avatar n tn t exercise, my weight is 135. i exercise and my weight goes up to almost 140. i think the exercise must make you retain water or something. i don't know. it's trustrating, and it sounds like you're similar to me in that regard. definitely post your FT4 and FT3 with reference ranges. maybe your FT4 is a little low and FT3 is a little high or vice versa. tsh is only one piece of the puzzle. the other values are needed to see the whole picture.
705042 tn?1228721787 One part Cytomel and two parts Levothyroxine is not a good balance. The Cytomel is metabolized very quickly and is gone in a few hours. So you are getting overmedicated half the day, and undermedicated half the day. You're going up and down like a yoyo every day, and the chances are pretty good your bloodwork will show you are hyper.
Avatar n tn I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately. I also started getting slightly sick in the morning about an hour after taking the Synthroid. My last blood test showed TSH of 0.1mIU/L.
Avatar f tn I just went for another tsh test and she decided not to prescribe the cytomel and only the synthroid. I spoke with the nurse and asked if the test included a t3 test and were my levels off. The test did not include a t3 and they said that the tsh was enough and if it was normal they had no reason to do a t3 test. I recently had lap band surgery to assist with weight loss and have started to see some good results but I'm worried that everything is going to get messed up.
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
