Cytomel and thyroid cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and thyroid cancer

cytomel

Avatar f tn ll only take half a Cytomel for a few days and see what happens. My endo told me after you have thyroid cancer only an endo can change your meds. She said it didn't have to be her but it had to be an endo. She said if I ever had to go to the ER for anything don't let them change my meds. This is still all new to me and I wasn't even aware that the Synthroid is T4 and the Cytomel is T3. I thank you for helping me understand better.
Avatar f tn t seem to be experiencing any symptoms of not having a thyroid. Or, should I go ahead and start taking this Cytomel as most likely I will start to expereience symptoms soon. I've heard people have some side effects (sleeplessness, headaches, nauseau) taking this Cytomel. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I had thyroid cancer and now I take cytomel and synthroid. Can I take maca?
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed 36 years ago due to cancer. I have been on Thyrolar all of those 36 years except for a short test period when I was put on synthroid. During the time on synthroid I had mood swings, a general ill feeling. Just didn't feel like myself. Today I tried to refill my prescription and found that Thyrolar is not available and I am unsure if it will ever be available. I have an appointment to see my internist on Monday and would like to go armed with good information.
1102845 tn?1285493058 The only thyroid option is to consider combined T4 (synthroid) and T3 (cytomel) - in this case reducing synthroid to 75 and adding 5mcg of cytomel in the am along w/ the synthroid.
Avatar f tn It just seems my results are never consistent they are all over the place and Im a huge stickler with following same schedule for taking my thyroid meds and just wonder if these numbers changing could in fact be residual thyroid tissue(Cancer)still making hormones which is causing these low thyroid numbers (Thyroid cancer has also spread to nodes both sides of neck) 1st cancer diagnoises I only had it in thyroid NO SPREAD...
Avatar f tn May 2018 I was on taking 100mcg synthyroid and 15mcg Cytomel in June 2018 reduced to 88mcg and 15mcg Cytomel and from August 2018 to Present I'm on (2 grain) Armour Thyroid. Avatar f tn I have never been on synthroid or any other thyroid med in my life. I didn't even know I had thyroid problems until two months before my TT when I was told I had Hashimoto's and suspicious cancer cells. I had the TT 10 days ago and it was a small papilliary cancer with a follicular variant. So, now I'm waiting for appoinetment with Endo this Wednesday to start discussing RAI.
Avatar f tn m suppose to be totally supressed because I had thyroid cancer. I was on Armour thyroid for 2 years and felt pretty good until I changed to levothyroxine because of shortage in supply. Havent felt good since. I'm very tired, muscles ache and feel weak, I'm forgetful, moody and anxious all the time. Does it look like I would benefit from T3 (cytomel)? Or just more levothyroxine? I go to the endo tomorrow but want to be headed on the right track to feeling better.
Avatar n tn And I start to gain weight when I exercise--Doc says that is the stress on my body and the reaction is to inhibit the thyroid and increase cortisol--- What are your thoughts?? Help--a little confused of how to decide what to do??
1518372 tn?1291011648 s an awfully high dose of synthroid. What are your latest thyroid lab results? That would be TSH, FT3 and FT4. Please be sure to post both the test result and the reference range, since these vary from lab to lab and must come from your own report. Have you checked into one of the natural thyroid hormone meds, such as Armour, NaturThroid, ERFA, etc? These have both T4 and T3 already in them.
Avatar n tn This was looked at by ultrasound it was 3x4cm (about an inch each way) and there were other small nodules throughout my thyroid. A month later the cyst was aspirated by needle. Another month later I was sent an appiontment to see a surgeon. The surgeon said the test on the fluid that was removed could not discount cancer (they found follicular cells) so I should have half my thyroid removed just in case. My immediate reaction was 'no!' (or 'not on your nelly' as we say here!
Avatar n tn I recently had to change endocrinologist, due to her being stuck in TSH lab mode only. My new endo just put me on armour. However, I will not be able to start until tomorrow, because my pharmacy does not stock it. They will have it from the warehouse by tomorrow. I had a TT on Sept. 2010. Since that time, my old endo had me on L-thyroxine 88 mcq most of the time, except for two weeks on synthroid. My body completely bombed out on the Synthroid 100mcq. I felt awful daily.
Avatar n tn My synthroid is 0.175 mg. I feel fatigued, emotional, hands and feet cold and despite exercise and following a dietician, i am gaining weight. My doctor says i have to stay at that range, until i am 5 years cancer-free. Has anyone had this, and what can i do to lose my weight?
Avatar n tn Synthroid for me was a super bloating, weight gaining, arthritis inducing JOKE! I hated every minute of it! I went off of a Levothyroxine/Cytomel combo post TT, to try and make my own T3... (TT in Sept '07 for cancer). The Synthroid only (T4) made me gain at least 15 lbs. But it was the arthritis/joint pain that made me switch immediately.
Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer back in Oct. I had surgery to remove my thyroid and some lymph nodes in my neck back in Nov. I went through RAI in Jan. Since Jan. I have blood work done every 45 days to monitor my T4, TSH, and Antibodies. I was on 100mcg of Synthyroid, than 137mcg of Synthyroid and now 125mcg of Synthyroid. The problem is I still am not feeling normal. I have brain fog, memory issues, depression, fatigue and at times insomnia. I am getting very frustrated.
Avatar f tn I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I am also in upstate NY, and I just had my thyroid removed on Monday. Like Shannon, I was prescribed Cytomel (25/2 x day) for after the surgery. When we found out I could do Thyrogen for RAI, my endo gave me Synthroid instead. I've been started on 150. I honestly don't know much about the dosage, but I'm sure someone here will have plenty to offer on that. Best of luck and again, welcome!
Avatar n tn I was exposed to radiation and have had thryoid cancer (removed 1984), bladder and skin cancers. I was on 200 synthroid in am and 50 cytomel 2 x per day (i took only once a day as I couldnt sleep). Doc brought my thyroid meds to 25 synthroid only. My body aches, and have had sugar issues already. Is this in my head? I went to another doc to be sure and he said deal with it. a low dose isn't going to kill me but he referred to an endo. anyway.
397332 tn?1225482122 Um - you had a large nodule of thyroid cancer removed and it was Stage II (meaning it had spread outside the thyroid). YES - you need RAI treatment!!!! Your labs may be "normal" for now because of the hormone dump some experience after thyroid surgery but they aren't going to stay normal - you don't have a thyroid left to sustain "normal" levels. You have cancer - you either need a referral to an endocrinologist or an oncologist NOT A PSYCHIATRIST.
92903 tn?1309904711 That went very smoothly, and I feel fine. Luckily, the cancer seems to have been caught early and does not appear to have spread. The doc has started me on Cytomel only - 25 mg in AM and half that in PM. Cytomel alone seems not typical - nut fom what I read it may be the best choice. I'm curious what others think about this?
Avatar f tn I am on 150mcg now and am still fat, tired and short of breath. Can adding cytomel help and can I use it even if I had thyroid ca?
Avatar f tn My son is 21 years old and has a total thyrodectomy due to thyroid cancer he needs to have 131 radioactive iodine soon. The doctor said that he needs to stop taking cytomel a couple of weeks before receiving 131 iodine treatment. Wouldn't he go into a coma if he were to stop the thyroid medication? He had his surgery three weeks ago.
