cytomel

Avatar n tn I have been taking 75mg of Cytomel for 4 weeks now to help with my depression, I do not have a thyroid problem. I am alslo taking 300mg of Welbutron and 75 of Effexor. How do I know if it is working? I sweat allot, I and I am not losing any weight (doctor told me I would) Can anybody answer my question.
Avatar n tn I have taken taken thyroid medication for 25 years and have been on 1.75 grains of Armour thyroid for a number of years. Recently it's effectiveness for me declined. According to my Allergist and lab results (a high Antithyroglobulin Ab and my nutritionist, but negative Thyroid Peroxidase Ab; TSH 0.9), I could be producing antibodies to the natural thyroid so he suggested a switch to Synthroid and Cytomel. At the time I was also showing some signs of too much thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn Felt, tired after a week, then did 88synthroid, and 5cytomel. Then, did 88 synthroid and 7.5 cytomel ( 5 in morning and 2.5 in afternoon). I got my results back and my tsh went down and my t3 needs to be higher. So, I decided this last week to take my 75mcg and 7.5mcg cytomel. However, starting tomorrow I am going to take 75 synthroid and 10 cytomel (5 in morning, and 5 in afternoon). I want to increase my t3 numbers. Honestly I checked my t3 just shy of 1 month.
Avatar n tn I will tell you that I purchased 2 books that were so helpful, the Thyroid Solution and Thyroid and Depression, both books are fantastic. I also got Thyroid for Dummies, another good resource book. I would definitely call your pcp as you may be allergic to a chemical within the drug. Good luck.
Avatar n tn 5 cytomel. I never felt better in my life! I was on 125 levothyroxine and 12.5 cytomel to clarify. My doctor said I would not lose weight due to the cytomel. I don't know if it was the cyt or just me feeling better with no more fatigue that made me lose weight. I dropped 25lbs. Two months ago found out I was pregnant and was taken off the cytomel and my levothyroxine was raised to 150. I miscarried a week later. My thyroid levels got so messed up because of the all the hormonal changes.
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
Avatar m tn Normally a combination of synthyroid and cytomel would be given. If you are taking cytomel, it should also be spread out through the day (ie. multiple dosing) not all at once. I would be rechecking on this or getting a second opinion. Another option considering that your FT3 is low is to switch to 'natural thyroid' whcih contains T3, T4 and other trace hormones. Armor is one, dessicated thyroid (erfa brand from canada), or compounded from pharmacy.
822804 tn?1298226302 I convinced my dr to add cytomel w/Synthroid 88mcg. He ordered 25mcg of Cytomel and I knew it was too much at once so I cut it in half and had only 12.5mcg in am & 12.5mcg at 2pm. I had been on the 88mcg for a long time and I just wanted to see if I increased by 44mcg (cutting an 88mcg in half) and adding it to the 88mcg (total of 132mcg) and I can't even believe how much better I feel. It took a long time for me to add the second dose of cytomel though.
Avatar f tn When I was first tested in late 2005 my doctor said it was hypothyrodism. She put me on 25 mcg of cytomel and 3months later had blood work and it was still low. She then put me on the 50 of cytomel. I want to say that back then my TSH was testing normal by my FreeT4 was low. Since I've been on the 50mcg i have been tested yearly. I went to my doctor because i was just feeling horrible constantly.
Avatar n tn Thx for replying:) I don't have them off hand but I'm not resistant and I don't have any food sensitivities so I'm just wondering why the cytomel makes me so sleepy and sick and the SR. T3 doesn't.
Avatar m tn I have Hashimoto's and am TTC. I take Synthroid and am thinking of adding Cytomel. Is it best to stop TTC when first starting this medicine to see how my body reacts? My doctor would prescribe 5 mcg of Cytomel daily. Here are my latest labs, which were taken a few months ago: TSH .94 Free T4 1.6 (.8-1.7) Free T3 2.8 (2.6-4.
458072 tn?1291415186 Cytomel is a T3 - the only way this would benefit you would be if your T3 is low and need to get that level up. Low T3 could cause anxiety but you need to know your thyroid blood panel to really see if you need it. Cytomel is not really a med to control anxiety. Xanax is the most given or a generic.
Avatar m tn Eltroxin Dailey and no other thyroid events . My meds for eltroxin were reduced from 3.-2.-1-0 and when I was taken off eltroxin all together my tsh was 84 and with my tsh at 84 he gave me a prescription for ptu . This is all opposite of how I should have been taken care of . I had a job that I loved as a canola refinery operator at the LDC plant in my home town . Within a week of being given the ptu and no eltroxin I was incapable of being at my work .
Avatar f tn Half in the morning and the other around 12 noon. The cytomel has proven to be good and as you can see in my labs my t3 is good. I had the same problem even before cytomel. Anxiety with synthroid and itching with levo. I know I need more t4, I just don't know how to go higher without side effects. I'm wondering will the itching go away if I continue to go up, or can I take Xanax together through the anxiety? I need more t4 even though my doc said my labs look great.
Avatar n tn I am taking 2.5 mcg cytomel and 8 drops of Lugols solution for treatment of thyroid nodules. I have more energy, sleep better, but am having regular frontal headaches and my eye ache and itch. It's hard to know if I am taking too much or too little, since the symptoms can be the same! Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I found that if I get sleepy after taking Cytomel to just stay very busy and it goes away. I got tired (no pun intended) of being sleepy (no tired but sleepy) I know it's the Cytomel. Then after about an hour I am fine until the next dose. I dont understand taking Cytomel at night wehn you go to bed. I dont think it's suppose to be a sleep aid.
Avatar m tn I am taking propafenone 150 twice/day for heart arrythmias. You warned me off Cytomel becasue of this and my age, 81.. Now I find several researcher or doctor opinions that i I could take it at minimal dose and constant blood tests. All levels have been within the range for eight months now but with T4 at the high end and FT3 and T3 at the low end. How about 5 Cyto and reducing levo by 20??? I'll try anything to get out of ten intermittent days a month sick.
252327 tn?1250183976 My doc told me to take the100 mcg snythroid with 5 mcg cytomel in the morning and then after 2 weeks to take another cytomel around noon. He said if I get any palputations to back off the second one. He orginally prescribed 30 mcg of amour but the drug stores said that it wouldn't be avalible untill October. So then he gave me the cytomel, so far I feel much better especially with the brain fog and fatigue, I still work full time so I still need my energy.
Avatar f tn After 4 years on Armor thyroid, my MD switched me to synthroid 25 mcg and cytomel 5 mcg 1 bid (tid prn). I am a 50 y.o females who is s/p total hysterectomy for ovarian ca. I take Estratest FS 4 X's week. I am feeling MUCH better with the Synthroid and Cytomel, however, my latest labs have come back as follows: TSH- .062 Free Thyroxin-- 1.
Avatar f tn I would take your iron 4 hrs after the cytomel and then again with dinner or before bed. I took for 2 months and brought my levels up. Now I just take one a day. I'm pretty sure you can take the vit D whenever. I take mine at night.
Avatar n tn And I start to gain weight when I exercise--Doc says that is the stress on my body and the reaction is to inhibit the thyroid and increase cortisol--- What are your thoughts?? Help--a little confused of how to decide what to do??
