Cytomel and synthroid combination

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and synthroid combination

cytomel

Avatar f tn My doc wants me to start on combination therapy of 50 mcg synthroid and 5mg cytomel. He said just see how you respond on 5 mcg cytomel for a week and if you feel ok then add another dose 5 mcg cytomel. Your thoughts ? So hoping that I will respond ok to combination therapy 50 mcg synthroid and 10 mcg cytomel. If needed more synthroid will be added later on. 5. I probably have selenium deficiency because once on selenium supplement I felt better. I will get tested for selenium.
1205917 tn?1265745553 I also have had a personal report of a person with hypothyroid who used the T3 drug Cytomel in combination with Synthroid. I have yet to try it, and cannot find a doctor who will give it a chance. Can anyone, doctors especially included, tell me anything about their experiences with adding Cytomel to their daily regimen of thyroid hormone replacement? My main concerns are appearance & weightloss, energy, and mood (including anxiety & concentration).
1070570 tn?1283436213 Was on 125mg Synthroid and 20mcg Cytomel.....Now on 125 mcg Tirosint and 20mcg of Cytomel daily. The T4 meds you always take first thing am on empty stomach. Cytomel I take 15 mcg in am and the other 5 mcg approx 6 hrs later. I have had great success with these meds. Synthroid alone didn't work, and Armour made me sick too.
Avatar n tn Some one else might have a different opinion about the combination of synthroid and cytomel. Keep checking the forum..
Avatar m tn Normally a combination of synthyroid and cytomel would be given. If you are taking cytomel, it should also be spread out through the day (ie. multiple dosing) not all at once. I would be rechecking on this or getting a second opinion. Another option considering that your FT3 is low is to switch to 'natural thyroid' whcih contains T3, T4 and other trace hormones. Armor is one, dessicated thyroid (erfa brand from canada), or compounded from pharmacy.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if I could get your opinion on my labs. I currently take 100 mg of Synthroid and 5 mcg of Cytomel. I am feeling a little hyper. When my TSH goes below 1, I feel like I have a little too much medication. Also, my Vitamin D is low at 25, and I am taking prescription D once a week. My question is from the labs below, do you think it would be better to stay on the 100 mg of Synthroid and drop the Cytomel, or stay on 5 mcg of Cytomel and drop the Synthroid to 88mg? Thank you.
Avatar n tn That is, 100 mcg Synthroid and 25 mcg Cytomel and in which is a starting dose combination. When TSH is too high Cytomel dose might be too low. If TSH was optimal F/T-3 would be high and F/T-4 low. Cytomel may decrease T4. I don't think your Cytomel/Synthroid ratio is correct. Unless other things are going on; you didn't care to share your levels.(?) T3 dose should be split and taken every 6 to 8 hour interval, if not time released.
252327 tn?1250183976 He has added cytomel to my synthroid, I am taking 100mcg synthroid plus 5 of cytomel and in two weeks add another 5 of cytomel. I already feel better, no more brain fog, tiredness and seems like the extra weight in the middle is disappearing. I only weigh 125 lbs but already 6 days later I feel much more toned. I was wondering who is taking cytomel with synthroid.??
Avatar f tn He added 1/2 of a 25 mcg tablet of Cytomel ONCE a day and lowered my Synthroid to .75 mcg. I just started yesterday and after reading some things on the internet, I decided to take the half of pill - one half at a time - morning and afternoon. So, I am taking a little over 6 mcg twice a day. I don't want to get any heart palpitations and hoping the Cytomel can help me feel better. I am basically exhausted, just feel flu-like, hard to function or want to do anything.
Avatar f tn In the meantime, given my constant dizziness on Armour yet still testing very hypo, in consultation with my endo I switched to Synthroid and Cytomel as a combination as I still wanted t4 and t3 supplementation, and put aside trying another one like Naturethroid for a later period, attempting to get stabilization of symptoms for now. The endo is still willing to work with me on something like Naturethroid eventually.
Avatar m tn Hi there, and thanks for your comments..I guess Levothyroxine is the way to go..I'm interested to read that you are on a combination of levo and Cytomel, why is that? I'm on straight levothyroxine.. Here is some numbers FT4: 19.5pmol/l (9-19) H TSH: 0.50 mU/L (0.4- 4.0) Free T3 4.4 pmol/L (2.5-6.0) If anything my Tsh of 0.50 is a bit low?
Avatar n tn Once it was decided that RAI was not necessary, my endo switched me to Synthroid. I felt wonderful on Cytomel and just okay on Synthroid and my endo does not believe in prescribing Cytomel due to cardiac side effects and the short half life. I went for a second opinion and was told there was no contraindications to Cytomel so I could stop the Synthroid and take Cytomel. With two completely opposing views, I am confused as to why I should do desides seek a third opinion. Any thoughts? Thx.
499534 tn?1328704178 I was on 120 mgs of Armour and switched over to 5mcg Cytomel with 88mcg Synthroid. Within 6 weeks I did labs again, and then was increased to 100mcg synthroid and 10 mcg Cytomel. I felt great for a couple of months at this dosage. Recently though I felt myself slipping.....the thyroid swelled and I knew it was the Hashimoto's attacking the thyroid again and knew it would be time for another increase. Labs proved correct.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I think you should talk to your doctor about decreasing the Cytomel and increasing the Synthroid. That will get your FT3 and FT4 back in balance. When your doctor took away part of your Cytomel and replaced it with Synthroid, he didn't prescribe nearly enough Synthroid to compensate for the decrease in Cytomel. Overall, your medication level has dropped significantly. What are your current symptoms?
Avatar n tn Anyway, since then, my doctor has switched me over to cytomel and synthroid. This combination has led to a drop in both ft4 and ft3 and a tsh that fluctuates between being too high for me (above 2) and hyper (around .27). I last went a little hyper in June on 75mcg of synthroid and 10 of cytomel. Given that the previous combo-syn 62.5 and 10 cytomel caused a tsh over 2, he suggested I take 10 cytomel and 75 of syn every day except sunday than take 1/2 75.
Avatar n tn I am on synthroid 100 and just started cytomel 3 days ago, I am on 10 a day 75 seems a bit much. I am only taking cytomel because I am not getting enough T3.
Avatar n tn I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately. I also started getting slightly sick in the morning about an hour after taking the Synthroid. My last blood test showed TSH of 0.1mIU/L.
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
Avatar n tn Dx Central Hypothroidism and Hashimoto Taking synthroid 125 Endo added cytomel 10mcg due to low ft3 and persistent hypo symptoms.Feeling terrible and even worse with added titre (cytomel) 10mcg. Rang Endo and told me to stop with cytomel. Is that possible that such a low dose could make me feel awful...double vison, sense of nausea, some palpitations...to add to my already hypo symptoms...plus ft3 and ft4 have not risen even a tiny bit. I'm really confused at this point.
Avatar n tn I read that Cytomel is four times as potent as Synthroid. So lowering your Synthroid by 25 and putting you on 25 of Cytomel doesnt compute right. I was recently on 175mcg of Synthoid and lowered to 150mcg of Synthroid and the dr added only 5mcg of Cytomel. Maybe get a second opionion. Try asking the thyroid dr on the expert sight.
1369218 tn?1282423884 I know that is not the way to take it. I am taking 112 mcg synthroid now and 1/4 of a 25mcg cytomel 2 times daily. Still not feeling well. Labs in couple weeks. I am the definition of "Emotional Wreck". Depression, anxiety, fatigue, irritability.....I feel for you. Hope we all find the right combination and start feeling better.
Avatar f tn I went back to the dr this week to get my meds adjusted as i thought i may be overmedicating because since being placed on 7.5 cytomel and 112 synthroid I lost ten lbs. without trying. In fact I have been very hungry, hence overeating and still loosing weight. While taking the above mentioned for the past three months I was feeling great, my hair started to grow and I was no longer tired. Well now three months later and ten lbs lighter I having heart palpitations.
Avatar m tn I had some of your symptoms before I was put on a combination of levothyroxine and Cytomel. I was extremely depressed and having non-stop panic attacks. My starting dose was 75 mcg. generic Levothyroxine and 25 mcg. Cytomel......this stopped the depression and panic attacks within 3 days, when no anti-depressant (including Wellbutrin) helped at all. I now take 100 mcg. levo and 50 mcg. Cytomel, and just raised the Cytomel by 12 and 1/2 mcg without experiencing the symptoms you describe..
Avatar f tn I live in Keller and am looking for a new doc to treat Hashimoto's. Am on synthroid and cytomel. Does your doctor in Denton prescribe T3? If yes would you mind giving me the doctor's name? Thanks!
332168 tn?1201026915 I had a TT in Sept. and RAI in Nov. During the time between the TT and RAI, I took only Cytomel and did fine on it. Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night.
Avatar f tn ( (My new young GP, goes by labs )and NOT how I'm feeling. It's 2 years now and I think she thinks I'm a NUT CASE. I've now developed PACs. I was sent to a 72 year old ENDO who obviously only goes by the numbers. He took me off Cytomel. This combo 15 years ago was determined what I needed to absorb the meds. I now have PACs that awaken me at night. . Due to family situations I've been VERY stressed since 2001.
Avatar n tn When I was on Synthroid (50 mg) I was very depressed. The doctor added Cytomel, 5 mcg and lowered my Synthroid to 25 mg and I felt great for 2-4 days, but then it was back to being miserable. I then went to a different doctor who is obsessed with T3 and added up to 15 mcg Cytomel which made me feel like I had an electric shock running through my veins. QUESTION #1: Why did I get suicidal depression every morning when I was on the 50 mg Synthroid?
Avatar f tn I used to be on .2mg Synthroid and Cytomel, forget the dose until I could not get it any longer. It is again available I see. I had shown my previous doctor, moved, a study showing its benefits with synthroid. can you comment on it and also tell me what that study was. thanks This discussion is related to Adding Cytomel.
Avatar f tn Usually we do not change from Synthroid to Cytomel alone. Typically if we are using Cytomel, it is in conjunction with Synthroid, for example if you're on 137 of Synthroid a dose change could have been Synthroid 100 along with Cytomel 5 twice daily.
