Cytomel and metabolism

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and metabolism

cytomel

Avatar n tn We would agree that eating 500 calories per day just to not take in more than one is burning is not the answer either. Obviously fixing the metabolism is the answer, and in some cases the metabolism is repaired through adjustment of the dose of right thryoid meds.
Avatar f tn She told me she was 20 lbs over weights due to being hypo and was only be able to loose few lbs even with teaching many aerobic classes and eating healthy until she heard of Cytomel. She started taking 25mcg of Cytomel 4 yrs ago and noticed the fat melted quickly. She is now at her ideal weight and very fit.
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy which was fine and several other tests which were all good, but my TSH levels are up and down every 6 weeks. I started Cytomel yesterday, and it sounds silly but I am really hopeful and excited that it will help. Should I request an ultrasound? Thanks so much for help and suggestions!
Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn You haven't given us the most important piece of info, which is, do you have a diagnosed thyroid problem? I'm guessing not or you wouldn't be illegally buying this med from Mexico probably without a prescription, which means you don't know even if it's got in it what you think it does.
Avatar n tn I am on synthroid 100 and just started cytomel 3 days ago, I am on 10 a day 75 seems a bit much. I am only taking cytomel because I am not getting enough T3.
Avatar f tn Free T3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. Free T3 also correlates best with hypo symptoms. You need to know your level. In addition hypo patients are frequently too low in the ranges for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin. D needs to be about 55-60, B12 in the very upper end of its range, and ferritin about 70 minimum. Deficiency in either can cause symptoms that mimic hypothyroidism. Low D or ferritin can adversely affect metabolism of thyroid hormone.
Avatar n tn speciast ob/gyn actually told my husband and I that he had no clue which to increase, the synthroid or the cytomel and has now pushed me back to the family doctor and I assume the family doctor will force me to an endo...which could take weeks to get into. Anybody know which hormone I should be increasing. I can't believe the specialist admitted to not knowing and he has never had a patient that was on both synthoid and cytomel!!
Avatar n tn Are you using the T3 as a laxative? It doesn't work like that. If you are constipated, you need to use a laxative/high fiber diet, not a T3 med. Are you dosing yourself? 40 mcg is most likely too much, which could be why you have the nausea and sickness. I've been on cytomel for over 9 months and my metabolism is just now beginning to return to normal, but still has a ways to go. Even with a higher metabolism, you may still be constipated. What are your thyroid levels?
Avatar f tn My doctors suggest that I take Phentermine but im taking levothyroxine 88mg and Cytomel 5mg due to thyroidectomy 3 years ago and I have gain weight due to hypothyroidism. Have anyone tried the phentermine while on levothyroxine and Cytomel?
Avatar f tn I am on 150mcg now and am still fat, tired and short of breath. Can adding cytomel help and can I use it even if I had thyroid ca?
Avatar f tn He is running additional test on my thyroid and stated that he will inform me as to when I can go forth and order the Cytomel and Levothyroxine. I questioned him about the metabolism issue but didn't receive a good response. I don't know of what else to do as it seems that this is my last option before I go back to the weight loss centers.
Avatar n tn Anxiety is a side effect of Cytomel. Why are you on Cytomel alone and not combined with a T4 med? You should not be as anxious as you are. Do you know hat your free T3, free T4 and TSH were prior to starting Cytomel? Do you take your Cytomel in one dose or split it?
1004097 tn?1251117610 I take Benazepril for my blood pressure and am on a combination of levothyroxin (T4 med) and cytomel (T3 med) for the hypothyroidism. I take my levo first thing in the morning (which for me is 3:30 am), then I take the cytomel about 7:00 am to help me get through the day. I take my blood pressure med at the same time I take my cytomel, but benazepril is not a beta blocker, it's an ACE inhibitor. T4 and T3 meds are NOT the same thing.
Avatar f tn It’s been relatively controlled on levothyroxine 37.5mcg up until last year. I severely over trained and underfed myself, damaging my metabolism. When I cut down on the training I gained 25 pounds in 3 months and my thyroid symptoms (cold, hair loss, fatigue, brain fog, irritability, constipation) were out of control. I finally got in to see a great ending who is committed to helping me feel better. My TSH and T4 were in the normal range, but I felt/feel horrible.
Avatar f tn t want to give you T4 because you would then have to stop taking it and wait several weeks before further treatment was possible. Cytomel should improve your mood and other hypo symptoms, but because it is so fast-acting, you are apt to go through "peaks and valleys" throughout the day as the FT3 levels fluctuate. Are you taking your Cytomel split into more than one dose per day?
Avatar n tn and I have started feeling tired again--those syptoms had actually gone away but they are back, and I was retaining bodyfat, in which I was hoping the cytomel would get my metabolism raring again, but it seems to be going the opposite way?? Oh my TSH last month was 1.20 and now 0.40?? I am back exercising full force--does that affect my meds and the dosages? Why would my T3 drop if I am taking T3 now by mouth--it makes no since to me??
1165078 tn?1338655745 s probably the way most people take their Cytomel...the first half dose in the morning with their levo and the second half later in the day (whenever works out best for keeping levels as even as possible for you).
927140 tn?1244210051 I just went to an endocronologist and he has put me on Cytomel and then I'm already on Synthroid and Celexa. In two weeks he is wanting me to start on Phentermine. I have had lots of weight gain. I'm a little concerned about these BIG changes, but I do want help. Has anybody heard of this combination in meds?
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn I had no other hyper symptoms. Thinking the problem might be with the Mylan generic, I went back on Cytomel last month and my doctor cut the dosage to 75 mcg T4 and 15 mcg. Cytomel. I will be retested in a month. I am pretty sure I will need more T4, since my Free T4 was already in the lowest part of the normal range, but I am co-operating with my PCP because I need her to trust me that the Free's are more important than the TSH, which is always below .5.
705042 tn?1228721787 One part Cytomel and two parts Levothyroxine is not a good balance. The Cytomel is metabolized very quickly and is gone in a few hours. So you are getting overmedicated half the day, and undermedicated half the day. You're going up and down like a yoyo every day, and the chances are pretty good your bloodwork will show you are hyper.
Avatar f tn I've been on both brand name cytomel and generic T3 and haven't had any issues with either one as far as acne. You could be sensitive to the fillers/binders. They can cause different reactions in different people. I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't get that "blast of energy" after taking my T3 med.
Avatar n tn FT3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions and correlates best with hypo symptoms. FT3 is adjusted as necessary to relieve hypo symptoms. Beyond being available for conversion to T3, T4 seems to have other functions also, so we like to see FT4 around the middle of its range.
Avatar f tn How would one know if they're getting too much Cytomel (T3) ? Are there things to watch for before I get my next set of Blood tests done? How long should I give T3 before I give up? I'm so darn tired I just want to crawl in a hole. I'm currently using 12.5mcg of Cytomel and .75mg of Synthroid since July 14th. Help!
