Cytomel and low blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and low blood pressure

cytomel

Avatar f tn I wonder why you are only on Cytomel and not a T4 drug as well. I would suggest you go to an endo and get on the right combination of drugs so you can feel better. Get your TGab and TPOab tests for Hashimoto's. I have Hashimoto's. I get the chronic sinus infections, simply because my immunity is lower due to my disease. I take Flonase and Zyrtec. That has helped tremendously.
Avatar n tn Could going off of cytomel after so many years do this? I am on synthroid now (low dosage) and one cytomel (25 mcg). maybe it isn't enough. i don't know what to do. thank you.
Avatar f tn I have NO hyper symptoms at all. I still have a low/normal heart rate, blood pressure, etc. In fact I feel hypo and am achy and want to sleep all the time. I have no idea why my TSH is sooo low & my Frees haven't come up. Why is my FT3 still so low & why did my FT4 drop so much???? Please, does anyone have any insight as to what is going on??? Has my body gone crazy??
Avatar n tn I have no symptoms of being hyperthyroid. My blood pressure is normal/low, heart rate fine, etc. I also had an ultra sound on my thyroid and it came back normal. However, my doctor retired and she had been my dr. and trusted friend for 23 years. Trying to find new doc. First doctor said I was hyper, second doctor said I wasn't hyper, third doctor said I wasn't hyper, my ent said something is suppressed (which I guess means hyper???
Avatar m tn Here is the range from the lab report: TSH: 0.005 range: 0.320 - 5.50 Free T4: 0.15 range 0.6 - 1.7 T3 iodothyronine 125.8 range 60 - 181 Cytomel .25 mg twice a day My internist has ordered an MRI of the pituitary. Thanks for responding.
458072 tn?1291415186 Cytomel is a T3 - the only way this would benefit you would be if your T3 is low and need to get that level up. Low T3 could cause anxiety but you need to know your thyroid blood panel to really see if you need it. Cytomel is not really a med to control anxiety. Xanax is the most given or a generic.
Avatar n tn If not, why are you on T3-only med (Cytomel)? What were your labs a week ago before going on the Cytomel, and were you on any other meds then?
Avatar f tn I had a thyroidectomy due to cancer on May 23rd. Upon leaving the hospital I was put on Calcitriol 0.25mcg and Cytomel 25mcg. I felt better than I have in years until I had the RAI treatment. (I still had 3 small pieces of my thyroid left until then) I had to stop the Cytomel before the RAI but started back on it shortly afterward as well as starting Synthroid 150mcg. All meds are once daily.
Avatar f tn When I was first tested in late 2005 my doctor said it was hypothyrodism. She put me on 25 mcg of cytomel and 3months later had blood work and it was still low. She then put me on the 50 of cytomel. I want to say that back then my TSH was testing normal by my FreeT4 was low. Since I've been on the 50mcg i have been tested yearly. I went to my doctor because i was just feeling horrible constantly.
1018470 tn?1251333523 With her reaction, it is fairly clear that the cytomel should be discontinued and the treatment should be with T4 alone. Low cortisol can be a problem and could be tested (am cortisol level to screen, should be >11 to reliably exclude low cortisol).
Avatar f tn I tried telling her med tech that I was on Cytomel and asked if that would be why it was low but I was just told to see the specialist. I placed a call to my psychiatrist to ask him and still have not heard back. I am just trying to figure out if I have a true problem or if that value if only medication induced b/c my thyroid was fine prior to this drug. My TSH was WNL. Thanks, any info is appreciated. I think I just want to get off of this med b/c it didn't help my depression anyway.
Avatar f tn My TSH has also been extremely low since starting Cytomel. My T3 and T4 are fine, and have been for years. Actually it started when I switched from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid, then to Thyrolar. I feel too much of a difference with the additional T3 and do not want to go back to only taking Synthroid. I tried cutting back the Synthroid as recommended by the endocrinologist I was seeing. She refused to believe that it was the Cytomel, and just kept insisting I was hyperthyroid.
Avatar f tn If you took the cytomel 2 hours prior to the blood draw, your FT3 would be a false high... Cytomel enters the blood stream very quickly and increases FT3 level, but it peaks within 2-4 hrs and is gone a few hours later. That's why it's recommended that the total daily dosage be split into 2 doses to keep FT3 levels more stable over the course of the day. So in answer to your question, yes, it could easily have made that big a difference in your results.
Avatar f tn My doctor refused to give me my results over the phone, claimed to have mailed them 3 times, I finally went there and demanded them but they seem low to me. He got the results and decreased my levo which I will begin to feel in a few more weeks ( I have appts. with 2 more doctors next week as he is not good ). He is stuck on increasing the tsh but doesn't care too much about free t3 and free t4, I am the opposite. He did not check blood pressure, temperature, etc., just blood. tsh .
Avatar f tn well I had all of those on the list except for the joint pain, swelling around eyes, enlarged tongue, high blood pressure, and infertility/miscarriage (I've never been pregnant). The ones that kept me from living my life was the extreme cold temp(felt like hypothermia) and the fatigue. My doctor started me on ERFA to see if my symptoms would change. I was attached to my portable heater in the summer and it was just not right. I also slept my days away.
Avatar f tn You list symptoms that are 100% consistent with Low thyroid. And you blood labs as Barb135 points out also indicate this. The response by your Doctor is an absolute clear indication that he has "immaculate TSH belief". Your TSH is suppressed and he thus believes that you should if anything ought to be hyper, but you are presenting Hypo. based SOLELY on TSH. And this explains why "it must be caused by something else". I concurr with Barb135.
280485 tn?1249013844 m not going to get enough air in my lungs and passout. Never had that pre-TT. I have suffered from low calcium and very low vit. D. Both which I self-diagnosed and brought to my endo for confirmation. I am subsequently being treating for these deficiencies with modest success right now. Lots of joint pain, most of the time moving really slow getting up from a resting position. Does all of this seem normal?
Avatar f tn She told me she was 20 lbs over weights due to being hypo and was only be able to loose few lbs even with teaching many aerobic classes and eating healthy until she heard of Cytomel. She started taking 25mcg of Cytomel 4 yrs ago and noticed the fat melted quickly. She is now at her ideal weight and very fit.
1004097 tn?1251117610 I take Benazepril for my blood pressure and am on a combination of levothyroxin (T4 med) and cytomel (T3 med) for the hypothyroidism. I take my levo first thing in the morning (which for me is 3:30 am), then I take the cytomel about 7:00 am to help me get through the day. I take my blood pressure med at the same time I take my cytomel, but benazepril is not a beta blocker, it's an ACE inhibitor. T4 and T3 meds are NOT the same thing.
Avatar f tn I went back on the low dose t3 the last two days, I am trying to get a hold of my dr but he does not call back yet. This afternoon though I am having a lot of chest pressure and indigestion and headche, I doubt very much it is from the T3 since I took it at 11am and it is short acting. I think I have felt better before I ever started thryoid but they think I need it.
Avatar n tn I am on 150 mcg Synthroid and 12.5 mcg generic cytomel and my doctor thinks that I have too much medication, which is lowering my labs and creating worsening symptoms. I have cold intolerance, my hair is falling out, severe constipation, I am fatigued, and I still have all of the hypo symtoms so I am confused. Here are my labs: TSH: <.01 range= .40-5.0 uIU/mL Free T3: 2.4 range 1.7-3.7 pg/mL Free T4: 1.1 range 0.7-1.
Avatar f tn At first I was alternating between 50 and 75 but now I increased it to 75 and my blood pressure is high and I am starting to have insomnia. I am not scheduled for blood tests until the end of this month. I need your opinion, should I just stay on the 50 and 75 alternating until I get my blood tests? I wish that there was an at home test for thyroid like they have for blood glucose !!!!! It would be nice to check to see what my levels are when I feel like this.
