Cytomel and depression

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and depression

cytomel

Avatar n tn I never had a problem with cytomel, it did help me with my depression. I am on the max of synthroid and for the past 13 mo, I have endured 19 surgeries and 5 life threatening infections. My thyroid levels are so bad and I have had so many horrible symptoms. I will tell you that I purchased 2 books that were so helpful, the Thyroid Solution and Thyroid and Depression, both books are fantastic. I also got Thyroid for Dummies, another good resource book.
Avatar f tn Free T3 levels must be checked regularly, along with TSH and Free T4, when taking cytomel. Cytomel is usually not recommended unless you have a conversion problem or for some other reason, your Free T3 is out of line. In addition, you should constantly be aware of any symptoms that might indicate that you are taking too much. Oldie - I, too, have heard that cytomel should not be used by persons with heart issues.
Avatar m tn Also extreme fatigue and apathy, I've been diagnosed with bipolar depression and Sjogren's syndrome so fatigue can also come from these.Weakness too. Cytomel .25mng. added to antidepressant but then thyroid levels low so dose. I'm not taking anything else for T4.
Avatar f tn Hello- I'm 33/female and I've had hypothyroidism since age 26. I'm taking Synthroid and Cytomel and my endo checks my levels every 6 months. I'm usually midly elevated and my dr tried a couple times to lower my dosage but it always resulted in me feeling awful and him reverting to my original dose. The reason why I'm writing here is because I've been feeling extremely depressed lately.
1406230 tn?1281202564 TSH FREE T4 FREE T3 - Not total T3 Hormone balance is very tricky and complicated. But it seems odd to me that low Progesterone would be treated with a T3 med of Cytomel. And a rather large dose of that as well??? I have actually heard of several others who's sex hormones were stabilized by first stabilizing Thyroid to the correct levels. Seems like your Dr is approaching it from the exact opposite way. maybe it will work???
Avatar f tn But, in March 2013, I had several bouts of heart palpitations and I went to my family doctor. My family doctor was against me being on Cytomel and told me that the Cytomel was causing my heart palpitations. At that time and while on the Cytomel my labs were: TSH 0.33 (range 0.27-4.20 uIU/mL), free T3 2.71 (range 2.57-4.43 pg/mL), and free T4 0.24 (range 0.92-1.57 ng/dL).
Avatar n tn depression, lots of anxiety, indigestion/bloating, fatigue, strange sensations in my hands and feet, so I went to the family dr. and asked her to check my levels. Sure enough, my tsh was high again, this time 7.4. She increased me to 50 mcg of synthroid, but I still was not feeling relief...if anything, my moodiness and anxiety is worse now! I finally got in with an endo yesterday.
Avatar f tn I am current taking 25mcg Cytomel daily in attempt to help with my depression, I had blood taken from my OBGYN this week b/c I was complaining of constant hot flashes and sweating so she wanted to check my hormone levels...my T4 free was 0.32, she has referred me to an endocrinologist. I tried telling her med tech that I was on Cytomel and asked if that would be why it was low but I was just told to see the specialist. I placed a call to my psychiatrist to ask him and still have not heard back.
1018470 tn?1251333523 I am wondering if any one else gets shoulder blade and neck muscles constricting (drawn up so tight and can't get them to relax) while taking Cytomel as well, not being able to sleep good, shortness of breathe too? I had to cut my pill in half to take only half of a 5 mcg. pill. My doc wanted me to take 2 x 5 mcg - I can't or at least I need to titrate very SLOWLY?
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist suggested that Cytomel may help some with depression and also with the tiredness and sleepiness I have had for years.I went to internet and read about hypothyroidism and how it often is undiagnosed due to normal blood test. Well I was uneasy about the Cytomel at first but when i saw how many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism I have I wondered if that isn't my problem. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia also and wondered if that has anything to do with the thyroid.
Avatar f tn I have brain fog, memory issues, depression, fatigue and at times insomnia. I am getting very frustrated. My Endo has not even checked my T3 levels. I have done lots of research and am reading alot about Cytomel. I need to find an Endo in NJ, who for one will check my T3 levels but also prescribe me Cytomel at least on a trial basis and see if my symptoms improve.
Avatar f tn 5), although I have to change my meds often as my levels go up and down whenever they want. Take 150 mcg Synthroid and 5 mg Cytomel 2 times daily currently. Just had my first ultrasound of my thyroid due to swallowing problems. It is enlarged and also the part that crosses my windpipe is about 3 times larger than normal, possibly causing the harder time swallowing. Dr also mentioned that it looks "woody".
Avatar f tn 7 last time getting it checked a year ago. Due to fatigue and depression, he started me on cytomel...saying it is a new thing to do to treat CFS and depression. And like I said, I told him I felt better on his initial dosing of 25mcg than any antidepresent med I've ever taken and refuse to take them now due to all the side effects. He then pushed the dose to 50mcg...don't know why.
Avatar m tn generic Levothyroxine and 25 mcg. Cytomel......this stopped the depression and panic attacks within 3 days, when no anti-depressant (including Wellbutrin) helped at all. I now take 100 mcg. levo and 50 mcg. Cytomel, and just raised the Cytomel by 12 and 1/2 mcg without experiencing the symptoms you describe.. The dosage is highly individual and depends on where your levels are in the FREE ranges. Because my TSH was "normal" (but NOT for me, now it's below .
Avatar n tn Cytomel can also help with depression. My endo considers adding it if a patient still doesn't feel well once the TSH and free t4 is adjusted.
Avatar f tn I wonder why you are only on Cytomel and not a T4 drug as well. I would suggest you go to an endo and get on the right combination of drugs so you can feel better. Get your TGab and TPOab tests for Hashimoto's. I have Hashimoto's. I get the chronic sinus infections, simply because my immunity is lower due to my disease. I take Flonase and Zyrtec. That has helped tremendously.
Avatar n tn I tried reducing my Synthroid to 50mcg and taking 20mcg of Cytomel this week..and it seems to be kicking up more anxiety!! Would Armour be a better choice?
Avatar f tn I have slowly tapered off of Zoloft, and have been depression med free and depression free for a few weeks now.
Avatar f tn ok, my doc initialy said when all this thyroid startrd was she was trying to figure out my depression lack of energy so she checked my throid levels and they were just a little off and said i was hypothroid, that was almost two years ago and i started with 25 mg a day in the morning and then my throid level dropped, again i wasnt paying attention to the numbers on whtat test, i had no cause for concern, shes my doc, i figired shes the one with the degree so i just did what she said so, in any ca
Avatar f tn I was treated many years for depression and anxiety...when finally one doctor found the problem. It was my THYROID all along. I suspended all drugs and just took Levothryroxin and all my problems were gone... Now I am on Novotiral and life is MUCH MUCH BETTER!
Avatar f tn I had a recent experience with Cytomel which lowered my TSH to 0.033, made me hyperthyroid and caused polyneuropathy (burning, pis/needles, aching pain) in my feet, legs and hands. My doc had lowered my levo by 20% back in Feb making me sick and hypothyroid. While trying to bring me out of my hypo state, he added 25mcg of Cytomel to my 0.137 levo. This rapidly caused neuropathy which we could not figure out at the time. I was sent to an endocrinologist and she had me stop Cytomel.
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar n tn The cytomel is a lot and after reading online and talking to people on this forum, I decided to take a tiny piece and really haven't taken it since. I have all these dosages because I really started on 100 then got bumped to 112, I was on 112 for a couple of years and my OBGYN doc said I needed more so she prescibed me a 90 day supply of 125. I took them for 2 days and made me too shaking, jumpy so I went back to 112. Then I went hyper so now I cut down to 100 so I could add cytomel.
Avatar n tn I begged my endo at Johns Hopkins to put me on Cytomel and Effexor after reading a few articles on the web. I had been on and off of many anti-depressants for at least 10 years, all with no success. While the low might plateau, the depression symptoms were overbearing. I am pleased to say that within 2 weeks of my new Cytomel, Effexor, Synthroid cocktail I felt outstanding.
Avatar f tn s for a couple years and am on 75mcg levothyroxine and 10mcg Cytomel. The Cytomel seems to help with depression and irritability. I am frustrated with this disease for many reasons but the most troublesome is the lack of sexual desire. My endo has said it's a symptom and I have read it is on many sites but I don't see much talk about it in forums. Is anyone else experiencing this and what have you done to improve it? My husband is understanding but frustrated (as am I).
Avatar m tn The endo ordered the test results and handed me the script AFTER we had a phone conversation where I told him I was really struggling and he put me on the Cytomel. I will see the integrative doctor in a week and he will definitely order the proper testing, perhaps in a few more weeks. As of now, do you think I am doing well and headed in the right direction? Do you think I need to change anything at this point or is it still a wait and see moment? Thanks, again!
