Cytomel and cholesterol

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and cholesterol

cytomel

252327 tn?1250183976 I am on 5 mcg of cytomel and it seems to be working on the cholesterol quite well considering no diet change. I want to add another 2.5 but I think I would need to lower my levothrixine from 88 to 75. ( Just to tweak it) Hopefully that might be just the boost I need to get cholesterol normal. My vitamin d level is 81.2 range 30-100 so I know thats good. I have felt pretty good, yesterday I got a little short of breath for the first time.
Avatar f tn t want to go back to Levoxyl and I might have two more refills of Cytomel 100 I can pay out of pocket for. Just a few dollars more than what my insurance covers anyway. I took an additional 5mcg of Cytomel last night right before bed and I slept the whole night through. Didn't wake up once, didn't have to put socks on till morning before my morning dose of Cytomel warms me up again (hopefully). I'm going to try talking to my doctor.
252327 tn?1250183976 I agree t3 needs time to adjust so today I started it again today I took 88mcg levo and added 1/4 of a 5mcg cytomel. In a couple of days I will up it to 1/2 of a 5mcg cytomel. After a couple of weeks will eventually increase it to the whole 5mcg cytomel. Hopefully after 6 weeks I will retest my blood. I am hoping when the t3 goes up my cholesterol goes down. Looking at old lab reports when my t3 and free t3 were higher my cholesterol was within normal limits.
Avatar f tn lol While I know that low thyroid levels can throw cholesterol out of whack, in one sense I do have to agree with your doctor -- exercise can go a long way toward lowering cholesterol levels..... Part of the cholesterol issue depends on how much your body produces and how much you consume in food. Here's my story (you do want to read it, don't you?...... lol) --- last year in Aug, my cholesterol was high.......
Avatar m tn I had a doctor who insisted that I go on Crestor when I was hypo and my cholesterol was high and I refused. My cholesterol has since come back within normal limits without the use of statins. Have you ever tried a small dose of T3 medication, such as cytomel, to raise your FT3, to see if that would help alleviate some of your symptoms? If you'll post your most recent labs, maybe we can make further suggestions. What dosage of levo are you on?
Avatar m tn So every night after dinner, I've been getting palpitations. Driving me crazy for over a month. Been on a beta blocker… Didn't take beta blocker tonight. No palpitations. Now, it's definitely not what I ate, because I had leftovers. And the first time I had this exact same dinner, I had terrible palpitations even ON the beta blocker. Only changes are this: I skipped Synthroid last night, per doctor's order.
252327 tn?1250183976 Your free t3 level is a little low, and that is why your dr gave you script for cytomel. BUT- that is quite a high of dosage to start with as most only need 5-10 mcg of cytomel. ALSO- when you start cytomel (T3) meds, you have to back off the dosage of T4 med. Your tsh is already at the hyper line......but you do show slow conversion. I would ask your dr to lower your t4 med to maybe an 88 mcg and allow you to take 10 mcg of cytomel daily. Always check levels 6 weeks after a change in meds.
Avatar n tn Her suggestion was 4 days 50 mcg Levoxyl, 3 days 75 mcg Levoxyl and daily, 25 mcg Cytomel. I cut back to 75 mcg 2 days a week, as I was hungry all the time, and noted weight gain a month ago, Today, going over recent labs with the primary, she wants to reduce to 50 mcg of Levoxyl 7 days a week. Keeping the Cytomel at the current, 25 daily. I truly have no endo that I feel is competent.
Avatar m tn so this leaves the option, unless i am mistaken, of having to take 2 pills instead of just 1 - levo and Cytomel. people like to streamline their medication regimens to as few pills per day as possible, but sometimes you cannot worry about quantity so much when your job, personal life, etc. are at stake.
Avatar f tn NDT and Cytomel will work for some people. T4 meds work for some people. T4 and Cytomel will work for some. NDT only works for some. The bottom line is that it is not the type of med that matters most. The important thing is getting your biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 up to a level that relieve symptoms. That can be accomplished with adequate doses of T4 meds, if your body adequately converts T4 to T3.
Avatar m tn I take 125 mcg of Synthroid and 5mcg of Cytomel (2X/day). I have a physical every year for work and my lymphocytes have been gradually increasing for the last 3 years; they are above normal but the docs don't seem overly concerned. My overall WBC was also high this year. I've had several different tests including ultrasound and CT and a cause hasn't been found yet, although something in my gut is suspected. My thyroid is consistently off.
Avatar f tn I am on 25 mcg cytomel and 75 mcg levothyroxine. I was thinking of making an appointment with a new endo and going off my meds for a week hoping to increase my tsh so I can continue getting my meds otherwise I do not know what to do. My psychiatrist will continue with the cytomel for I do not know how long and I have nobody to prescribe the levo anymore.
Avatar f tn They said it was unusual for both tsh and free T4 to be low but I thought that was common on Cytomel? My doc is not used to treating with Cytomel (It was prescribed by my other doc).
Avatar n tn I have been taking 100 mg of Synthroid and 2.5 mcg of Cytomel. I also take 2000 mg of Vitamin D3. I do not feel that great, so I am sure something needs to be "tweeked." TSH 2.07 Free T4 .86 (.61-1.76) Free T3 3 (2.3 - 4.2) Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy 22.3 (32 - 100) Thank you in advance for your advice.
Avatar n tn also, since your total t4 is so high, maybe the doc could decrease the synthroid a little and add the cytomel (synthetic t3). this combination may balance everything out. you should post this with your most recent labs and symptoms in the expert forum. i'd be interested in seeing his response.
Avatar f tn 25 of generic Synthroid because I had several hypo symptoms - 30lb weight gain despite diet and exercise, extreme fatigue, very lethargic, anxiety attacks, very dry skin and dandruff, high cholesterol despite healthy diet, bloating, low body temperatures, shortness of breath, missing periods, hairloss and change of hair texture and extreme ADD. After a month of the synthroid - I had more energy and my period has always been normal ever since. The dry skin and dandruff went away.
Avatar f tn Since then I have been on Synthroid by itself then with Cytomel, Tirosint by itself then with Cytomel , Nature-Throid and now compounded t4 and compounded sustained release t3. I cannot get rid of the heart palps and high blood pressure. I feel terrible. My latest labs 2 weeks ago were Tsh 0.06 0.34-5.60 Ft4 0.77 0.76-1.46 Ft3 2.49 218-3.98 rt3 21.2. Ratio -11.
Avatar f tn ve been bringing her from science journals and clinical trials, as well as my previously-terrible labs for all the OTHER things like cholesterol and calcium and glucose and eGRr etc. doing exactly what I predicted they would.....go back to their previously great levels. I see what you're saying there, and thanks for the insight.
1518372 tn?1291011648 s y I want to get back on just straight cytomel. When I was on that I slept like 7 hrs Max and woke up on my own at the same time everyday and made me feel normal for the first time in my life.. the synthroid takes so freaking long to get in your system and for you to even see a change..
1491650 tn?1288463224 9 The test also showed that I have high cholesterol (although I exercise 5x/wk and eat an organic, low fat and low sodium diet), and low Vitamin D and Vitamin B12.
497224 tn?1209853381 I have never been treated with T3 medication before and am wondering/hoping if this might help me. I have heard good things about cytomel and armour... I just want to feel better! and levothyroxine pills are not doing it. Bottomline here is do you think, based on my results, that I could benefit from T3 being added to my treatment? I want to convince my doc to prescribe it but I don't know how. I have my next appointment in early June. Thanks!
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
