Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms

cymbalta

Avatar f tn I stopped Cymbalta cold turkey 1 month ago.. I had taken it for 5-6 months... The brain zaps, what you are describing as electrical shocks running thru your body and brain, lasted for 3 weeks. Now I'm brain zaps free. The withdrawal torture can last for 1 month maybe a bit more depending on how long you've been on the medication.
Avatar f tn I have in the last 4 months tapered myself off the cymbalta and I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms. I have been two weeks totally off this drug . The dizziness and brain zaps are getting better, but my taste buds are still horrible. It feels like the front of my tongue has been burnt and it feels like my teeth are coated with rubber. How long do these withdrawal symptoms last. I can handle it all, but the taste bud sensation is horrible.
Avatar f tn I would have thought 4-6 weeks was about the time it took to get rid of withdrawal symptoms. Your symptoms sound strange, and I think you should see a doctor. Hard to believe feet swell up because of withdrawal from anti-depressant. Are you experiencing depression again? I had many physical problems when I was deeply depressed. On medication I am fine both mentally and physically. It would be interesting to know if others have had this foot problem.
Avatar n tn Yes, you may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal is unusual with tramadol; some people have very uncomfortable symptoms, and others have none at all. Starting the Cymbalta may reduce your withdrawal to some extent, as Cymbalta is a serotonin (and norepinephrine) reuptake blocker, and some of the withdrawal from Tramadol comes from changes in serotonin activity. The withdrawal is not 'dangerous', so do your best to avoid concentrating on them.
Panda I cannot diagnose your current symptoms but it certainly could be that you did experience a withdrawal reaction to Cymbalta. In my patients with similar reactions I would expect that these symptoms may take 7-10 days to clear but certainly close follow-up with your physician is necessary, In my patients, when I attempt to wean my patients off cymbalta, I will sometimes have them reduce just one dose a week (ie take 60mg 6 days a week and 40mg once a week). I hope you feel better!
Avatar m tn I was on Cymbalta for a little over a month. How long will I experience withdrawal symptoms such as brain zaps and dizziness?
Avatar n tn Very dangerous to quit either of these drugs cold turkey. Although only one month on either isn't very long, you still probably have a mild dependency. I went off Cymbalta cold turkey (not knowing I'd deal with withdrawals), and had symptoms like yours, and quickly got back on and did a taper. I would imagine these symptoms will have passed by day 4 or 5, but again, it can be dangerous to quit these cold turkey....seizures etc.
Avatar f tn I haven't taken Cymbalta or Paxil, so I can't give a personal withdrawal experience for those specific drugs. However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar n tn I'm guessing you're suffering Effexor withdrawal, not Cymbalta withdrawal. It's not impossible to get a withdrawal from a short stay on a med, but unlikely. Sometimes a med just affects someone more profoundly than one would expect. But given you just came off Effexor, that being one of the hardest meds to stop taking and one that can have long withdrawals, I'm guess you didn't successfully stop it slowly enough to prevent withdrawals.
Avatar n tn I just took my last Cymbalta 3 days ago. Now I am feeling the side effects of withdrawal symptoms. I feel electric impulses throughtout my body, and do not have a doctor now, because of no insurance. I am feeling severely depressed and stay home with my two kids all day long. I really need someone to help me with this. I am feeling super bad and its gradually getting worse. Please help me??
Avatar f tn For personal experience I can tell you that Cymbalta does cause withdrawal symptoms (abstinence syndrome). I was on Cymbalta for 6 months as prescribed for my Psychiatrist, after that I decided to do some research about possible withdrawal symptoms because my bad experience with lexapro in 2005. I found that Cymbalta can cause severe symptoms from withdrawal abruptly.
Avatar f tn Would you recommend stopping Effexor and switching to Cymbalta? Will Cymbalta reduce the withdrawal effect? My daughters were both recently put on Cymbalta, and their depression is much better, and they claim they are "thinking more clearly". Thanks for your input.
Avatar m tn Hello friends - I've been chatting here recently about the very prolonged, severe exhaustion and other symptoms I've had since getting off fentanyl patches (woke up in hospital) this past winter. My family doc recently gave me a rx for Cymbalta, but I keep hearing horror stories about it, with withdrawal symptoms very reminiscent of what I'm still going through from fentanyl!
396332 tn?1320003615 Digestive problems are one of the most common symptoms of antidepressants. If the drug is working for you otherwise, you can try remedies such as aloe juice and digestive enzymes. If it isn't working for you, then yes, you should try something else, but taper slowly and work with your psychiatrist when doing so. If the psychiatrist doesn't seem to understand or empathize with withdrawal problems, find another.
Avatar f tn The Wellbutrin is probably not the major problem, but the cymbalta has a reputation for horrible withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I became suicidal on this drug. It is addictive and the withdrawal symptoms are enough to make you suicidal. Literally: have to remove TWO GRAINS from a capsule daily for three days. Then removed FOUR, and so forth until off. This slow approach does not negate the side effects of withdrawal. It took two months. Then it has to get out of your system. Never did I have suicidal thoughts before. Some people find this wonderful and it should be. But each medicne works differently.

Avatar n tn Also ask you doctor and pharmacist for a proper tapering schedule for Cymbalta. Maybe for withdrawal reasons you can break the capsules and take some twice a day and slowly taper off. At that point I really don't know. My advices for now is that you should talk to your doctor and pharmacist to tell them your intention of quitting this drug. Being referred to a psychiatrist sounds like a possible option to maybe try other medications for withdrawal purposes.
Avatar n tn Stopping Xanax abruptly can cause extreme and potentially dangerous withdrawal symptoms. Stopping Cymbalta abruptly would cause withdrawal symptoms as well although not as much as the Xanax but enough to be of concern. As for health care coverage if you go to your local ER you could be eligible for emergency Medicaid which could then transition into standard Medicaid. If you are working you could be eligible for the Medicaid Buy In for Working People with Disabilities if its in your state.
1442059 tn?1340240952 I was on Cymbalta for 5 months. Only side-effects I had was nausea for about 1 week then it went away. Cymbalta was very energetic and helped me going thru the hard time I was dealing when my mom had cancer. When she passed I stopped cold turkey and had brain zaps for 1 month. This drug is very potent and can work very well but it's not a cheap drug and cost a lot. I was very active while being on Cymbalta (going to the gym 3-4 times a week and jogging 45 min everyday) and very outgoing.
462675 tn?1206697609 Yes, yes, yes. These are classic, expected symptoms of what's called discontinuation syndrom (just a fancy, drug company name for withdrawal). I took 90mg of Cymbalta for 3 months. I ran out over a holiday weekend and couldnt get a refill. By the third day, I was a wreck (and at the time had no clue it was the Cymbalta). I called my Dr who prescribed and he said, "no way, not possible its the Cymbalta". He was a primary care dr, not a psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn A lot of these medications have to be tapered down slowly in order to avoid the withdrawal symptoms and that is something your doctor could have helped you with. The fibromyalgia is not going to go away, what do you plan to do after the Cymbalta is out of your system?
Avatar f tn I need any advice on dealing with withdrawal symptoms from cymbalta!!! And if I should even consider trying fetzima. There is little to no information on the possibility of withdrawal disorders on it. I'm so lost and afraid that I don't know what to do please help!!!
