I haven't taken Cymbalta or Paxil, so I can't give a personal withdrawal experience for those specific drugs. However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
I stopped Cymbalta cold turkey 1 month ago.. I had taken it for 5-6 months... The brain zaps, what you are describing as electrical shocks running thru your body and brain, lasted for 3 weeks. Now I'm brain zaps free. The withdrawal torture can last for 1 month maybe a bit more depending on how long you've been on the medication.
Now I am going to see if I can find a doctor who will actually acknowledge that there is such a thing as Cymbalta withdrawal, and who will help me to safely get off of it. Best of luck to you and a suggestion: please do your own research on any medication a doctor wants to put you on (or take you off) before actually doing so.
All the recommended protocols I've found suggest completely tapering off the old drug before starting the new one so you can tell if you're suffering withdrawal side effects or side effects of the new drug. It's very hard to tell if the new drug will work or not if you're feeling strong side effects which might be the old drug and have nothing to do with the new one.
It would be doubtful that cymbalts for a month would cause any probs...ativan however could be..i took cymbalta for 2 months and had bad side effects so I nquit it takes a month or more for the drug to really take eaffect..ativan is very addictive however//a month is not that long to have wds from it but we r all different..so it is probably the ativan//maybe a combo..but if that is all and only for 30 days..it should not take long to feel better...
The doctor will likely taper you off of it and make sure you can do it with little withdrawal symptoms. All anti-deppressants have side effects as do many mood stabilizers. I am on both and I don't know what I would do without them. On the other hand if you have or will give Cymbalta a chance and it doesn't work you can be switched to another medication. The doctors are, or should be, there for you.....
m most worried about experiencing the side effects of withdrawal. Will switching to Cymbalta keep me for going through that?
I am currently taking klonopin twice a day which is a miracle for me prescribed from my psychiatrist... Prior to this I was taking cymbalta only for a week and 2 days! I stopped taking the cymbalta due to side effects. I didn't take any on Monday and still haven't. My primary care doctor prescribed the cymbalta to me! I was in the middle of withdrawing from celexa which was a nightmare in itself it's been almost a month I been off of it!
period of about 3-6 weeks- still presents serious unwanted side-effects, it must be weaned off with the help of an MD, to avoid serious withdrawal symptoms/discontinuation syndrome.
As an alternative, you may consider natural herbal SNRIs, which have a better safety record without many side effects, nor dependency issues.

This seems to work well for allot of people, but it is not for me....side effects worse than the reason i was taking it...and withdrawal has been long and hard. Can't seem to find one that helps, but will keep looking.....
d go even slower getting off the Zoloft before going to Cymbalta to avoid withdrawal -- the protocols usually call for a six week taper just to be safe, and some need longer. So I'd listen to the cautious docs. I know you want to fell better quickly, but you don't want to feel worse and you're quitting the Zoloft very quickly as it is. Good luck.
Ideally, your psychiatrist should slowly taper you off the Lexapro before giving you Cymbalta. There can be withdrawal when quitting anti-depressants, so it should be done slowly and carefully. And one drug even in the same class won't necessarily have any effect on this withdrawal. Cymbalta is in a different class of drugs. So a careful psychiatrist would see how you react to tapering down the Lexapro, then do the switch slowly to see how you react to the Cymbalta.
How long does it take for the withdrawal symptons to go away? I got off Cymbalta 5/31 and had severe reactions, my dr put me on Prosac for six weeks, it helped. But I have been off Prosac since 7/25 and am still having some pretty bad withdrawal symptons. Head and body aches, electric shocks, paranoia, my feet hurt really bad, it's hard to walk on them and my ankles swell every day. Does it ever get any better?
t know whether you are experiencing side effects from the new med or side effects from withdrawal of the previous med. This is why getting in touch with your psychiatrist is the best option.

Hi! I have been taking Paxil for 20 years. I have recently been struggling w/ more intense anxiety and depression and irritability. I am switching from Paxil to Cymbalta, and am down from 30 mg of Paxil to 5 mg, and then up to 60 mg of Cymbalta. I feel like I am having a racing heart/palpitations. I am not sure if it's anxiety, Paxil withdrawal, side effects from Cymbalta, or there is something wrong with my heart.
She ended up fighting both of us off like she had completely gone insane. We flushed all of her cymbalta down the toilet much to her dismay. I changed from cymbalta to prozac. Cymbalta has terrible side effects and withdrawal symptoms. You must use caution when changing. With my doctor's guidance (and my research) this is what i did to make the change: For the first three days, remove two (2) grains of medication from the capsule. The next three (3) days, remove 4 grains from the capsule. The next three (3) days, remove 6 grains from the capsule; and so on until you are off the medication.
