10 mg Lexapro and 30 mg Cymbalta Week 2: 5 mg Lexapro and 60 mg Cymbalta Week 3 and on: 60 mg Cymbalta.
They've tried the anti siezure meds and the migraine meds as well but they aren't migraines so that's why I'm asking about the cymbalta, the doctor said it sometimes helps with chronic pain but I do not want to gain weight which I did on Lexapro which didn't do anything for the headaches either. Going to look into the atriptylene.
Other than Paxil, nothing else has worked for me (Lexapro and Effexor). Anyone have any good experiences with Cymbalta? Just wondering what I'm in for this time... Thanks!!
I have had some very bad experiences with some of the other SSRI's (Zoloft, paxil, celexa, lexapro) as far as sleep/sexual/cognitive disturbances but I feel like some prescription help may (still) be warranted. I just wanted to see what anyone had to say regarding their experiences with this drug.

I had a rough time with Cymbalta as well. I didn't take it very long but all of the research I did on it said you should be tapered off of it slowly or you will have unpleasant "discontinuation" symptoms. Talk to your doctor about slowing down your taper.
Has anyone tried or currently use Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia. My primary care Dr. wants me to try it for my pain. I have glaucoma, it's under controlled but im still afraid to take it because of the side affects. Im in so much pain most of the time. I also have non hodgkns lymphoma and sarcoidosis and both are in remission , and I pray I can get some kind of relief. I really would like to hear some input on this.
Now that Lyme disease is affecting my life terribly with late stage symptoms I am thinking of getting back on Cymbalta since it's really the only AD that worked for me at giving me a kick to start my day. It is also a good analgesic for neuropathic pain and various other pains. One drug doesn't fit all like one size doesn't fit all. Everyone can react differently to drugs.
I believe it works best on depression more than depression pain. Now after years of use my dr. has put me Abilify 2mg in am along with the Cymbalta with the plan to cut my Cymbalta dose while raising the Abilify. I tell ya, my feet hurt more, my legs hurt more and I feel more depressed and that's without cutting down on the Cymbalta yet. I also gain some weight and crave high carbs and sweets more than I did before Cymbalta alone and the 2 meds together.
DO NOT START CYMBALTA !!! If you go online and look at Cymbalta withdrawal you will be amazed. I have had 29 surgeries over the course of my life and have experienced some very severe pain including a thorotcotomy for spinal surgery, kidney stones, pelvic pain for numerous abdominal surgeries. I have weaned off of many narcotics over the years and have done OK by eating a very healthy diet, taking supplements, excercising, deep breathing and meditation along with praying.
I was on Cymbalta for 5 years and it just stopped working. I like my Cymbalta and had very little side effects with it for many years but all of a sudden I started getting headaches and anxiety, sleeping all day and missing days at a time from work. They have switched me to Cypralex now and I am quite concerned it won't do as much for me. It has only been a few days so I cannot determine the effects quite yet, except that I have the shakes really bad.
Week 1: 10 mg Lexapro and 30 mg Cymbalta Week 2: 5 mg Lexapro and 60 mg Cymbalta Week 3 and on: 60 mg Cymbalta. Does that look standard? Should I expect any side effects? Thanks.
I found with both Effexor and Cymbalta gave me wicked headaches at first and when you are adjusting to any med, there is a possibility of sleepiness and temporary odd things. Once your brain adjusts 4-6 weeks, most people see a lot of improvement. You've had a lot of med switches, so I would say it's time to see an expert. Do you have a confirmed diagnosis yet? Meds alone aren't going to completely eradicate depression, you have to do some work as well right?
Forest Laboratories, the manufacturer of Celexa, has developed the next generation of Celexa, called Lexapro, which can treat both depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Lexapro has proven advantages over Celexa that provide people with better symptom relief and better tolerability. In fact, 47% of patients who did not respond to Celexa treatment responded to treatment with Lexapro.
My doctor called back today and decided to put me on Lexapro rather than Cymbalta. It sounds like it will be a better fit for me because of my anxiety/panic attack problems. Anyone on or been on Lexapro?
I recommend this for anyone who has realized a decrease in the effectiveness in lexapro. Go up to 20, but never over. Even with doctor permission. Switch to something else and come off of lexapro slowly while building up the new medication. (: a happier me.
I took the time to read everyons comments and am confused as to what the heck is going on with me.....I take 10mg of Lexapro at night. (because it made me sleep all day) So my insomnia is gone. I had no sex drive when I started taking it and never orgasimed(faked it)....Now I do every time and its fast? As for weight gain....I am losing it? All the side effects have been the extreem oposite on me??????? My prayers go out to the people on here who are struggling with your weight and other issues.
I completely agree with you. I know 3 people that take Lexapro that do well on it. Although, they do report weight gain and no sex drive. Also, they have tried to stop taking it but are unable to. To me, this sounds almost like a heroin addiction. What I experienced was entirely different and horrifying. Doctors are too prescription happy. People have different physiologies, for example: allergies, I once had a girlfriend who could die from eating a few peanuts.
I started Lexapro exactly 1 month ago. I started with 5mg and am now up to 10mg (for the past 3 weeks). My depression is gone (yay!), but my generalized anxiety problem has gone thru the roof. I feel like i'm going to explode - all day! My psych prescribed Cymbalta because of this. 30mg. I've taken it in the past and had pretty good results (I really should never have come off of it, but i had a false sense of security since i was feeling so great :)).
Hello, I am a 36 year old male. I started Lexapro exactly 1 month ago. I started with 5mg and am now up to 10mg (for the past 3 weeks). Are you talking about Flexor? Cymbalta is an SNRI that can be prescribed for anxiety. Did your doctor prescribe these to you?
He said the klonopin was a band-aid, and the Cymbalta will really start fixing the problem with my neuro-transmitters and serotonin or whatever. He said that Cymbalta could initially CAUSE anxiety (which is apparently what I have), so the Klonopin will help with that. He also said I should take the full prescription for the Klonopin (.25mg three times a day). I'm really not wanting to go on all these drugs, and wanting to get better on my own.
Withdrawl can also be much worse on SNRI's like Cymbalta and Effexor than with SSRI medications. This fact counts for a lot if you ever need to taper off and swap meds. Don't get me wrong, SNRI's have their place, but if an SSRI does the trick then I say stay away from the SNRI's.
Just wanted to get some input from those of you who have had experience with Cymbalta. I post this poll with the understanding that everyone is different....I just would like some info. Thanks all!
Does anyone know if Cymbalta has horrible withdrawls too??? I've been taking it for about 3 months. When I forget to take it I'm real irritable and have trouble sleeping. Restless legs. I'm looking for simalarities, because it also might just be from not taking enough hydrocone that day. I'm not sure what you would call I'm doing right now. I just take enough hydro so I don't have withdrawls. My boys are driving with me to Arizona in 3 weeks and I don't want them to see me at the worst.
I am getting ready to start cymbalta after being on prozac for over 8 years. Prozac initially helped with my depression but made my anxiety worse (I didn't realize this, just thought I had developed anxiety along with the depression). Recently after going through detox for a drug problem, and speaking with two detox nurses, I have learned a great deal about these meds. Prozac is actually a more "speedy" anti depressant, which explains why when I took it at night, I could never sleep.
i have gained alot of weight about 30 lbs, and i was wondering if this is because of me being 27 or because of the cymbalta? my doc said that cymbalta causes weight gain and even leads to diabetes, but my shrink said she hasnt heard of that. i also currently take 1 mg of ativan a day, could this be contributing?
