Cymbalta weight gain or loss

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta weight gain or loss

cymbalta

Avatar n tn I sometimes think doctors don't tell you the real percentage of weight gain with a drug. I was on cipralex for years and it didn't matter how much I worked out, weight loss was minimal. On a high carb diet and no excercise, I gained 40 or so lbs. Everytime I go off of cipralex I lose weight. I don't care what they say, cipralex causes weight gain. I was on mirtzapanine for a short while and I felt happy for once but together with the cipralex the 30 lbs came back within a month!
Avatar f tn i have been on luvox for 1 year and its a very good medicine with minimum side effects ,so please give it a try and regarding weight gain i think it is the dullness caused by these medicines that we gain weight , which we can counter by exercises.
Avatar f tn Well that's very great news. Some of us are on medications that don't cause weight gain and it is much better. But some of us still are and the medications still work and don't cause other problems. For myself, the mood stabilizer I take Clonidine causes weight gain. I bought some chocolates today and I had already eaten dessert. I was going to snack on them anyway but I told myself not to or the weight gain would start so I didn't.
Avatar n tn For all it is worth, since I starting Cymbalta 6 months ago, I have gained 30 lbs., and I do not think the weight gain has stopped. I exercise, have tried paid diet programs and so far nothing has helped. The only time I have seen my weight at least stabilize is when I do not eat anything at all. I have been on just about every antidepressant out there and Cymbalta seems to be the only one that has helped my depression and anxiety. Therefore, I am screwed either way....
Avatar n tn Yes it is true that Cymbalta helps with pain, it is often used to help people coming off strong painkillers, I don't know the full details though. It sounds like you have been prescribed the anti depressants to help with the anxiety, as they treat both.
1305597 tn?1275336446 What if you are eatting a 1500 calorie a day and burning the amount of calories to loose weight...do they still make you gain weight? Or is it because while on the medication you just eat more? What if you control your food intake do you still gain weight. I am on cymbalta and I am never hungry but it is giving me other bad side effects so I am afraid the doctor is going to change it and all the other options I have read about all say weight gain.
102999 tn?1326855784 So, I am curious what some of you may have to say about whether or not Klonopin may be the weight culprit and/or suggestions of whether or not I should try to taper off (and how). Or I would just like to hear your stories about the medication. Thanks a lot!!
Avatar f tn Weight gain is one potential side effect of Cymbalta but it would also depend on your other medications and if they have this side effect as well. It would be worthwhile to speak to your psychiatrist about this and they could see how to adjust and/or change your medications as needed and also how this specific side effect could be addressed.
Avatar n tn m doing that the cymbalta will somehow cause me to either stay at my same weight or gain weight. I have heard rumors that so many anti-anxiety/anti-depressenants can do that.. but i also heard cymbalta usually does not cause weight gain. Did anyone have an experience where they still where able to lose weight on cymbalta? I dont understand why not, considering if you decrease your daily calorie intake and exercise the weight should technically be able to come off.
Avatar m tn I have not really talked to my Dr. about it. Until I read your post, I had not associated the weight gain with cymbalta.
Avatar f tn I was wondering, at what dosage did you notice a gain or loss of weight? I've read about people either gaining or losing weight, but no one says what dosage they're on. I'm taking 25mg right now and the doc and I were talking of moving me to 50mg. Standing at a whopping 5ft, I of course worry about the weight gain.
Avatar f tn I took Cymbalta for two years and I found it to be weight neutral - no weight gain. Your weight problems are more likely because of your thyroid than Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn m so sick of feeling like a lab rat! I also worry about weight gain...I am already aware that people say Lyrica causes weight gain which of course I know if the med works it will be one of those things where you choose alleviation from pain vs weight gain. Hope all of you are having a somewhat pain free day...I hope to say the same for myself in the future!
Avatar f tn So , I have been on celexa for about 5 years and went off that because of my crazy weight gain.. Went on Effexor for about 6 months and I am gaining more weight!!! I have cut my calories, cut my sugar , went to a Nutrisionist , ate exactly how I am supposed to, exercised everyday, cardio and weights .. I have always been skinny ..
Avatar f tn I have been taking Cymbalta and Xanax at the same time for more than a year. In fact, I lost almost 30 lbs. Don't think negative. I think it depends. Some gain and sone lose weight...not sure why... Thanks!
202665 tn?1248806733 I know Seroquel has a side effect of increasing your chance of diabetes, so it is possible it may be contributing to weight gain. I would say weight gain or not it is a good idea to exercise a bit if you can. Not only will it help your pancreas it will also help your mood. I know it's hard sometimes. It is so ironic we take these meds to feel better yet then they make us gain weight.
Avatar n tn Hello, I havne't been on any antidepressant because I'm so afraid of the weight gain. I tried Wellbutrin, but even at 50mg, my heart was racing and I couldn't sleep. I'm reading a little about Cymbalta. Does it make you gain weight? I'd love to hear about your experiences with meds and weight gain.
1756969 tn?1332437163 the eating disorder is under control but i have a huge fear of any medication that will cause weight gain and an increased appetite. any suggestions?? i heard cymbalta is good! help!
Avatar f tn My Dr recently put me on Cymbalta for anxiety and depression. Also for pain. I'd like to know how effective it is for chronic pain and most importantly...will I gain weight?! I do NOT want to gain weight!!! I've heard both...you'll definitely lose weight or you'll definitely gain. Does anyone have an answer to that? thanks so much!
Avatar f tn i have not had any weight gain. Some meds can make you gain weight. Though I think meds act differently on different people. So probably the only way to figure out if it will work for you is to try it out for 6 weeks. That's what my doctor told me to do. Warning about it though... at higher doses, it can make you feel kind of foggy and loopy. Well, some people it can. So the dosage level varies by person as well.
Avatar f tn Is weight gain the norm for Cymbalta? I excercise regularly, watch my diet and still am not able to loose anything. It is very frustrating. I am on thyroid, but have it checked regularly, am a breast cancer survivor, take fosamax, and prescription Vit. D. Could any of that be associated with being unable to loose weight?
Avatar f tn I have read that this drug can make you gain weight; I have gained about 20 lbs since i started taking it. But I don't see myself going w/o any treatment, so.... If I did stop taking it, would the weight come off, or would I have to diet to get it off????? And what is a better drug to take? I am ADD/ADHD and really stressed out. I feel better when I take celexa 20 mg. daily and 5mg of Ritalin twice daily. I am only 4'11" and this weight HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Just wonder if Cymbalta causes weight gain and what are the effects of tapering off?
Avatar n tn I can't answer that authoratatively. I haven't used nor had patient used. However most of my patients have been greatly helped by botox injections.
Avatar f tn It's funny how some psychiatric meds say they can cause opposite symptoms, like either weight gain or weight loss. Maybe that's because as many test subjects gained weight as lost weight in clinical trials? I've heard of Lamactil added to lithium to reduce the weight gain caused by lithium. You just have to work with your doctor to see how your meds actually effect you, and when you combine medications, you can get varied effects.
