Cymbalta vs wellbutrin

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta vs wellbutrin

cymbalta

Usually if you have panic attacks, and are irritable, have OCD and are depressed, an SSRI would be better than Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin can make panic attacks, irritability, anger and OCD even worse). I am convinced I have a dopamine problem, which is why I didn't even CONSIDER an ssri. I went right for wellbutrin since it works on dopamine. Well...
Remember that everyone's body reacts differently to anti-depression medication. Effexor and <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> made me feel like a walking zombie, where wellbutrin gave me that extra energy. Sometimes people need a combination of antidepressants to help them handle depression. My advice to anyone who is experiencing depression, is to seek out a psychitrist to work with you to get the right combination of medicine. Pyschitrists specialize specifically in the chemical makeup of the brain.
I already take Wellbutrin because a) it has helped me quit smoking cigarettes, and b) helps control my appetite, and c) there aren't sexual side-effects.
I have come off of a lot of my medications. My final meds are Wellbutrin, Trazodone and <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>. The Wellbutrin is suppose to take the place of the or: #dae8f4'>cymbalta. After horrible withdrawal, I came completely off of or: #dae8f4'>cymbalta last week. I became so depressed that I couldn't stand to talk, much less move. All I wanted to do was sleep and be left alone. When I did interact, I was grizzly mean.
Hi all- Have any of you taken <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> and Lyrica together? Just wondering about other peoples experiences taking these two meds together. I am to take 60mg or: #dae8f4'>cymbalta 1x daily (I've already been on this for awhile) and 75mg Lyrica 2x daily I had a bad reaction taking or: #dae8f4'>cymbalta and Savella together so am leery of trying another combination, but my PM doctor seems to think this will work. We are in a "trial and error" stage right now...and I'm so sick of feeling like a lab rat!
You need to speak with your pdoc, and find out how much they know about the drug personally and not what is written up about the drug, fact vs. fiction. Lamctil is a wonder drug, but it shouldn't be taken at the same time as <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>, that's weird your pdoc would do that. I might even ask for a second opinion honestly. Hang in there!
I actually googled my observations about generic vs brand and weight loss. I started on Wellbutrin 350 and almost immediatley began to feel better. I was so pleased I told my doctor they should put this stuff in the water. I slowly lost weight around 8-10 pounds in 3 months. My insurance (unbeknownst to me)switched me to the generic and I started noticing my weight creeping up and it did not seem nearly as effective. My husband kept asking me "Did you take your meds today?".
I also take celexa and wellbutrin for depression and adderal was introduced because i was becoming depressed again feeling unmotivated and frankly lethargic....i worry i am doing a "bad" thing to my head....any feedback would be appreciated....
I am on Tareg for blood pressure, from specialist....then my GP put me on Wellbutrin and klonopin .... which my specialist took me off and said take Xanax only with the Tareg. Any comments much appreciated.
Well yeah but im trying to be 'mentally' stable here. Should i ask to add wellbutrin to my <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>? They want me to increase <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> anyway since its not hhelping, what if i just add wellbutrin?
Change in my living situation seemed to do more for me than Paxil ever did. I would suggest Wellbutrin or Prozac if you really need something. (I had tried Wellbutrin...helped me stop smoking, but made me combative...or maybe that was just deciding not to let people walk on me anymore!!) Good luck!
I also take Wellbutrin 150 daily. Can I try the suggested amino protocol while still on Wellbutrin? I know the <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> falls under the category of SSRI, but am not sure about the Wellbutrin. I am trying to taper off Ultram and need all the help I can get.
Have suffered with Anxiety and Depression for the last 4 years, in that time I have been on Lexapro,Effexor and <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>. About 8weeks ago Idecided to taper off <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> as have felt that the medication seems to worsen my symptoms as well as making me extremely tired - I could sleep up to 16hrs a day which is not good with 2 young children.
I'm in the same boat-however, my docs are disagreeing with which one of my meds I should continue- wellbutrin vs prozac (I've been on both for 6 years). I know it's safest to stop both, but with my mental health, it just isn't a good idea. Any suggestions as to which is better? I don't have any words of wisdom except to talk talk talk to supportive friends and family.
Because I hated it so much, I was switched to Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin felt like no drug at all except that sexual activity seemed to be slightly enhanced. But I always worried about my liver and got off the Wellbutrin after another 18 months or so. From the time I started the Prozac to now, I have never experienced anything I would call depression. Prior to that, I was hanging on for dear life for most of my adult life.
In the end we did end up changing the meds - as I recall, I was then on Provigil for a short time and then <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>. I was on <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> for a couple years but went off of that about 9 months ago and have NOT BEEN ON ANY anti-depressants since.
What hurt me, too, was coming down from the <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span> - had bad withdrawals. What helped me was to keep some food in there - soup, oatmeal, crackers, toast, and stay hydrated. Also, I didn't take the meds until night time and made sure I drank a glass of milk and ate SOMETHING with it. It's rough, but it gets better, I promise. When you go back for your meds check, make sure you tell your pdoc - he has me splitting my 150 into 100 and 50 at 2 different times now to avoid some of it.
I was on lamictal and ativan at the same time - I was okay until my son was murderedin 1/05 - and then it seemed like nothing helped - suffered from PTSD so I was going from one med to the other - however doctor kept me on lamictal than I switched doctors and the new one put me on 400 mgs of lamictal and that's when my problems started I got bad rash and once you get a rash from lamictal you can't go back on it - however I was okay under regular dose of 200 mgs - also had problems when dr pulled
TEVA is currently under its second investigation by the FDA after reports of their generic for Wellbutrin XL "not working properly." I didn't know Effexor had a generic already. I was taking this until December 2009, and I was getting the brand name only- for 37.5, 75, and 150 mg capsules. You really would have to try both to see if one truly works best for you.
I have tried a few different meds and as of now I am on <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>, which helps really well with the depression. I can tell if I miss a dose because I can not even get out of bed and all I want to do is cry. I am also on Geodon for my anger issues. This is a med that is usually prescribed for schitsophrenia (sp?) but again if I miss a dose I get very angry and can not stand to be around anyone, every little thing will set me off. I also take Xanax for my anxiety when I have to go out in public.
So different drugs may work better for you vs for me. It's a trial and error. I like Lexapro, it's supposed to be one of the easier SSRI's. =) Good luck to you.
Celexa wasn't one of them, lol. But I was on Wellbutrin, Zoloft, <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>, Lexapro, and Prozac. I did the best on Lexapro and the worst on or: #dae8f4'>cymbalta. I read up a little on Celexa and found that the MAX dose is usually 40 mg and yet your dr. STARTED you on that?. So, I'm thinkin you are very wise to cut them in half. It will take 2-4 weeks to actually begin working in your brain chemistry, but that differs for all of us...some notice sooner....some later....
and 3 days in a general psych unit where they proceeded to give me Librium, and Wellbutrin! I told them I quit the Wellbutrin and I wasn't going to get back on it, my hair was already standing on end after the first dose and I was adamant about not going back through that process. They never gave me my Xanax in the 5 days I was there, but gave me a couple of little doses of Librium because my blood pressure was through the roof and I was barely sleeping.
the AD's become the number one most required rescue drug. 30% dropping out of tx site sides especially the mental sides as the reason. You may want to check out the tetracylics, such as remeron rather than standard SSRI. Not as strong, but not as hard on liver either. If you are in late stage your liver can't make enough cholesterol, further exascerbated by thyroid conditions, which when hypothyroid shows up also lowers cholesterol.
Some anti-depressants are better for pain than others (at least in clinical experience-no good trials) such as wellbutrin, effexor and possibly <span style = 'background-col<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>or</span>: #dae8f4'>cymbalta</span>. I would suggest that you discuss these options with a psychiatrist. That being said, I would recommend continuing to search for other causes as you start a trial on wellbutrin, etc.
I'll have to read that. The difficulty is that only leaves lithium as the one having the potential not to cause that and the (current) antipsychotics which have their own set of long term side effects (which I live with but since I've been asked not to discuss them I won't). I never experienced suicidal ideations from Lamictal and I found it to be quite helpful.
