Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta side effects weight loss

cymbalta

Avatar f tn I suffer from OCD and have tried numerous serotonin meds, all of which I have had extreme side effects. My doctor put me on Cymbalta, but I have notices increased weight gain. I recently lost quite a bit of weight and no have put back on 15 lbs. She has suggested I try Luvox, but don't know if I should or not. I worked so hard to lose this weight and don't want to gain any more. I am at a loss of what decision to make.
407790 tn?1397761026 My doctor just put me on Abilify, which I'm not very happy about considering the side effects. However, I have treatment-resistant depression so I'm running out of options. I will be taking a very low dose, though: 2.5 mg. Does anyone know if you're less likely to get side effects if you're on a low dose? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Avatar f tn i am on cymbalta...no side effects until my doctor upped my dose, but just extreme tiredness, so i lowered my dose back to 60 mgs....usually the brain zaps are when you suddenly stop taking it, any antidepressant can cause this when abruptly stopped....but everyone is different. are you experiencing any side effects from it now?
Business woman1 I was removed off of saphris last october, and was put on wellbutrin 150mg and had a TERRIBLE reaction to it. now think I am experiencing side effects that (in my opinion) appear to look like adrenal problems (fatigue, unneccesary anxiety, muscle spasms/twitching, problems walkng, craving sugars etc.
1286779 tn?1400012806 She went to a doctor yesterday about her hair and the doctor told her that it was because of this medication (Lydrica) But I have seen all side effects and none talk about hair lost. And my mother does not want to leave this medication because its the only one that works for her burning feet. Has anybody else expirence hair loss with Lydrica? She also takes Cymbalta 60mg,lyrica 75mg, Nexuim 40mg, and Tramabol 50mg. What do you all suggest she get tested for ?
1610967 tn?1314811101 I have had other medications cause changes in weight and appetite including some that caused weight loss and a decrease in appetite.I have not had the two occur together but it would be worthwhile to discuss this with your psychiatrist. Also it could be an interaction of the various medications so depending on the cause and extent of the problem they should be able to decide how to appropriately address this and adjust and/or change your medications as needed.
Avatar n tn t even know that much about the drugs they prescribe, but weight gain is always listed as one of the most common side effects especially with drugs that affect brain neurotransmitters. I gained a lot of Paxil, but didn't gain much at all on Lexapro or Celexa, whatever that means. Didn't gain at all on imipramine, a tricyclic. The side effects are very individual, and those who are prone to weight problems without the meds will have a harder time.
400867 tn?1371753094 I have thin hair to begin with, but not THIS thin. I was taking 30mg of Cymbalta for about a month. Because - at that time - I didn't notice any side effects, my doctor upped the dose to 60mgs. It took almost no time at all, for me to notice my hair falling out!! It was everywhere. After brushing my hair, for instance, I'd look at my brush and there were very long strands hanging off the brush, as if my hair was coming out from the root!! Then I realized it was all over the floors.
1187071 tn?1279369698 It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.
Avatar n tn I have gained alot of weight taking cymbalta. Is there any way to lose weight while on this medication. I exercise daily and watch what I eat but it has not helped.
Avatar n tn ve learned over the years that side effects are different for everyone and not to judge a medication based on that. Possible side effects doesn't mean one will get all of them (which is what I tended to focus on). While being on Cymbalta, the one side effect I've noticed is insomnia. For the first little while I had nausea but that's gone away. Other than that, my appetite has increased and I'm eating a bit more.
Avatar f tn Weight gain is one potential side effect of Cymbalta but it would also depend on your other medications and if they have this side effect as well. It would be worthwhile to speak to your psychiatrist about this and they could see how to adjust and/or change your medications as needed and also how this specific side effect could be addressed.
Avatar n tn Many antidepressants do increase appetite. Weight gain seems to be high on the list of side-effects but what I am thinking is that with a slight touch of added physical activity, it might even help on side-effects as well as core reason for being medicated. Depression does a whole lot of things to a body. I can't promise gold and green meadows but let nothing stand unattempted on the path of improvement!
Avatar f tn Ive been on so many things over the years and they just stop working. Any side effects on the Cymbalta? Pristique didnt work for me at all.
Avatar n tn Because of the bad side effects - increased anxiety, sleeplessness, chest pressure/pain, feeling of disconnectedness, loss of weight, I was told I could just quit cold turkey. Is that a good idea? I've only been on the med for 13 days. I'm reading scary stuff about weaning off the drug. My doc also wants to prescribe Cymbalta, but I'm afraid to take anything else....
451366 tn?1211304932 I have fibro, but I refuse to use it because weight gain is also a big side effect, which is the last thing I need. But some women with fibro and depression say it is a miracle drug.
Avatar m tn This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. http://www.drugs.com/cymbalta.html Let us know what the doc says!
739988 tn?1386672969 t had a migraine in months, and I used to get about 3 a week. Also, I lost 25lbs on it, so weight loss was a side effect as well for me. The tingling sensation takes a long time to get used to though, and for me it was pretty bad in the beginning. like, my face even felt numb. So, if that happens to you, it's normal. Another side effect I experienced is that I can no longer drink anything with carbonation in it b/c it tastes awful. That doesnt happen to everyone though.
Avatar m tn I'm working with my Psychologist now & am on a medication free basis. Still dealing with how to manage the depression. I'm not ruling out going back on some med in the future. It's just that I need to see where I'm at without the effects & side effects. I'm looking into high doses of amino acids.
1168718 tn?1464983535 t have luck with either one. Cymbalta had more side effects for me than Gabapentin. You can try Cymbalta, but the withdrawal is terrible. Be careful !!!
877371 tn?1240237527 the first two you listed are for weight loss and i dont think your supposed to really combine them
Avatar n tn Attention anyone taking Cymbalta...PLEASE read about the side effects and the horrible withdrawl symptoms. It turned me into a zoombie then it took over a year to withdraw from. It is worse than anything I have ever experienced in my whole life. I am not going to be a guinea pig for any more of these new drugs, I'll just stick with vicodin.
Avatar m tn Then I read that heightened ammonia in blood can lead to kidney stones, hair loss and confusion...all side effects of Topamax. So, my thinking is that adding water and maybe some milk thistle or other liver supporting supplements may help tip the balance back. I am not sure those things work, this is just my theory on my limited research and there may be much larger issues at play. However, water and milk thistle can't hurt...right?
Avatar f tn After seeing my doctor lately, she has decided to take me off my Cymbalta. I've been on it for 3 years with no change in my depression. What I'm wondering about are the withdrawals that I think I've been experiencing. The doctor also has put me on Paxil while weaning me off the Cymbalta. The symptoms I've had are mostly being very shaky; so much so that it's hard to hold a spoon because I'm shaking that badly. Is this normal and will it go away?
