In the fall of 2008 I was hospitalized for HBP and prescribed amlodipine. After a few years I added benazapryl. This past week (March 2013) my anxiety/panic disorder reached a new high and have been off work and resting for about a week now. I have not started the prescribed Cymbalta yet, decided to do some research.

My doctor just put me on Abilify, which I'm not very happy about considering the side effects. However, I have treatment-resistant depression so I'm running out of options. I will be taking a very low dose, though: 2.5 mg. Does anyone know if you're less likely to get side effects if you're on a low dose? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I have recently been prescribed Ativan for a social anxiety disorder but I am concerned that this medication will cause me to gain weight and seems to have much more side effects than Wellbutrin, so should I request to be changed to Wellbutrin which does not have as many side effects - mainly causing weight gain.

I personally do not recommend the use of any antidepressants before trying holistic therapies. Speaking from experience, these medications come with side effects that can last long term and eventually contribute to more problems than you started with. However if this is for fibromyalgia or other physical ailments then long term use is sometimes necessary.

Lunesta can be used long term. Rozerem is another good sleep aide and specifically better than either of those two because it being derived from melatonin adjusts the sleep cycle.
