Cymbalta how it works

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta how it works

cymbalta

Avatar n tn It works for some, not for others. I gave it a shot and it ended up not working. Others swear by its results. I would try it.
Avatar f tn s not for everyone and you will have to just try it and find out if it works for you. I know i wont EVER try it again..
1344219 tn?1279201027 Ummm I take cymbalta for anxiety and it works quite fine....
Avatar f tn I was on Cymbalta for 2 years. It is a great medication and gave me energy. Plus, I didn't feel depressed at all. I switched to pristiq because of the cost and I have diabetes and it did have weight gain for me.
Avatar f tn cymbalta works at first, but if you decide to stop taking it, it seems like it is impossible. i have beene doing research and i have read cymbalta refered to as "sunshie in a bottle" but that wears off, and when you want to stop, you basically can't without being worse off than before. i wouldn't recommend this for any child. good luck, i am stuck.
7684852 tn?1437171892 The mental part can be tough at any time, no matter how long we have been clean. I sometimes focus how disastrous it would be for me to go back to pills. When I was detoxing, there were many days I was listless and had no energy at all. When I curled up in a ball in bed for another night of staring at the walls, I would congratulate myself on staying clean for the day.
553995 tn?1332018840 Cymbalta is an FDA approved medicine for Fibromyalgia (FM), anxiety, and pain. It works on keeping Serotonin (mood) where it is needed and Norepinephrine which works on pain chemicals to stay in the brain where needed. I think I'm going to try it again, or Trazadone. When I first took Cymbalta I did not know I was in the throws of Lymes disease. I took it for three years but even though it helped, I thought it was side effects I was having when, in actuality it may have been the Lymes.
Avatar f tn But once it is fully out of your system, side effects associated with it should become less and less until it is fully gone. How long has it been since you stopped the med? That is key. Also, there are other depression medications that work with fewer side effects. Talk to your doctor if you still need help with that Remeron with Wellbutrin is a combination that has few sexual side effects and works pretty well that I've read about.
Avatar n tn Thanks a lot for the reply, I'm taking 60mgs a day (regular dose) I have to go see the Doc at 2 1/2 weeks to see how its working. I really dont want to take ads either but the depression aint goin away. Tried 5HTP and L Tyrosine...
3547166 tn?1347814000 I was recently prescribed Cymbalta for severe Anxiety. I am taking it but I haven't been on it long enough for it to start working yet. Does anyone have any personal experience with this medication? Does anyone know how well this medication will work? I am worried it won't work at all. My Psychiatrist has tried me on so many different medications.
Avatar f tn This could be a lengthy time before finding out if something actually works or not. Somethings may work for a while then stop. It is well known that a lot of us have immune systems that get used to meds very quickly then the meds stop working. A lot of us have very poor immune systems and are almost always constantly sick with one thing or another. Getting the proper sleep and eating well is very important. Everything needs to be balanced.
Avatar m tn This med can be great for depression. I do hope it works well for you. It is in my experience with it one of the more stimulating meds so if you do have any start up side effects it may be a little trouble sleeping and things like that. They should settle down though, if you even get them. And, this med should not cause any sexual side effects which is a plus. Keep us up to date on how things are going.
Avatar f tn how long does it take to "kick in"? Is it one of the 10+ days meds or does it have immediate effects? Just wondering b/c I'm not sure I'm taking this stuff right. I'm used to having freakouts and taking a benzo to stop it, but from what i've gathered, this is a long-term-steady blood level type of drug not a silver-bullet-pill.
596143 tn?1226648054 I used to take Cymbalta, and I think it depends on your diagnosis - (I take Lamactil). My pdoc doesn't think that Cymbalta is good for BP1 - and he took me off of it. It was a HARD withdrawal period, but I do feel better now just taking Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn Hello Have been taking it since last April. It works fantastic except that it is more difficult for me to have an orgasm. Other than that no side effects, I feel very balanced on it. No issues with weight or appetite. I sleep well and feel 'normal' with feelings of joy and happiness. I am not dopey in any way, just more balanced and in control. I can also still feel anger + sadness but under control Before taking it I was on an antipsychotic with an anti depressant.
1442059 tn?1340240952 I was on cymbalta for about 18 months (after effexor and before that lexapro). It did ok--only side effect I noticed was weight gain. Withdrawal is VERY bad however as when I ran out of meds and could not get refill in time etc. Just in last month I noticed withdrawal like symptoms culminating in a crash over abott a week's time that i never hope I repeat.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am currently on Cymbalta for issues with L5S1 and have a lot of pain. I started it about 3 months ago. Although it is an SSRI (helps with depression and anxiety) , they say it also helps with low back pain. The first month I started it, I really thought I felt a difference. The pain was not completely gone, but it had let up. Now that I have been on it for 3 months I kind of feel like I hit a plateau and can't really tell if it is helping or not (for the pain).
Avatar f tn one needs to try the medication to see how it works and weigh if the difference in pain is significant enough for them to continue taking, as compared with the side-effects. What helps one, may not help the other. For some, Cymbalta does work and I can say that it did for me when I was taking it. I hope you find relief soon and take care.
Avatar f tn There are the SSRIs which target only the serotonin (like Zoloft) and the SNRIs which only target the norepinephrine (like Effexor), with Cymbalta, you get the best of both, as it works to increase the circulating amounts of BOTH neurotransmitters. Cymbalta overall has been well tolerated with decent success rates. It's sometimes also used to treat neuropathic pain (as in a condition like fibromyalgia).
11852 tn?1216841443 good news sis!!Let me know how the cymbalta works for you. hope you get your energy back soon.I dont know hwy it has to take so long to feel better again.I am just now starting to feel pretty good and its been nover a year now getting my meds tweaked.hehe those hot flashes wold jusmp start you though.
Avatar n tn t eating much so i stopped taking it, also i had to take it at night it made me sleepy , i also was going to try the SAMe see how that works , the 5htp only cost about 9 bucks at the GNC i bought it.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 30mg of cymbalta for POTS for 2.5 years. It solved my rapid heart rate but recently my dizziness and lightheadedness and fuzzy vision have been worse. Do you think I am getting used to this drug? And after reasearaching on the web, why do I never see info about POTS and cymbalta?
4186651 tn?1357830957 I was never on cymbalta, but I had issues with the gabapentin...we r all different...and just bcuz the med has listed possible side effects does not mean u will have them....all u can do is try to see what works for u....if u have a reaction stop the med and call ur Dr ASAP.
Avatar f tn t know how much your taking but i was taking .50 three times a day, it took me weeks to get off of it. as far as the cymbalta, it raised my blood pressure, so it could be the other two meds causing that problem. all people respond to drugs differently so it could be the combo of all three of them. i hope everything works out alright for you.
Avatar m tn Hi I currently take 20mg prozac for depression, 15 mg remeron for anxiety and 15 mg of zopiclone for insomnia. I also take 4mg Dilaudid for plates in my face as I get terrible pain. So doc took me off Dilaudid, slow taper and in two days I'll be narcotic free. She also switched my prozac to Cymbalta 30mg once daily to manage depression / pain and also started me on 25mg amatriptyline at bed time for I assume depression.
Avatar f tn I am on Prozac and tolerate it pretty well. I don't know if it has helped with pain or not. I agree with all who have taken Hellbutrin. It is crazy making. I know people on it and they've all gotten off it. Paxil works, but definitely do not suddenly stop taking it. It can be a horrible experience. Research that on on google..'detoxing from Paxil'. I've watched people try to get off that one and almost go really crazy.
759115 tn?1256997490 is anyone out there taking Pristiq?? if so, how is it? I'm currently taking Cymbalta 30mg once daily, but still very depressed :( Started out on 60mg daily about 2-3 years ago with no real results, so worked my way down to 30mg. I did try one weekend to quit it cold turkey. NOT smart!! withdrawls were the WORST!!!
Avatar f tn Looking at the possible interactions we should exclude Topamax, I don't think it could interfere badly with the Cymbalta even if there's a small interaction there. Indeed, Tramadol have SNRI proprieties just like Cymbalta but to a lesser extant. If the doctor prescribed those to you it's ok since serotonin syndrome is very unlike. Serotonin syndrome is a rare medical condition that rarely cause trouble. If you experience fever and agitation I would report ASAP at the ER.
