Cymbalta for bipolar depression

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta for bipolar depression

cymbalta

Avatar f tn Do you have bipolar disorder? If so, being on Cymbalta alone can cause problems like this as I see nowhere that it is a mood stabilizer or antipsychotic. Antidepressants alone can cause huge problems, so if you're no longer on lithium, I'm not surprised by this. Either way, you need to see your prescribing psychiatrist soon for a medication evaluation. Something needs to be changed.
Avatar f tn Exactly what is a pdoc? Are you referring to a psychiatrist? Is Lamactil the only med you are taking, or are there others? Are these meds generally used for bipolar? I don't think I am bipolar, and I don't think my therapist does either, but I am still curious to know what drug combo's work for other people. Well, thanks to you and everyone else for the support.
Avatar f tn My name is Heather, am 32 and mother of 2 beautiful children aged 10 and 7. I live in Northern Ireland. Have been treated for depression for the past 7 1/2 years or so. Kept going back to G.P explaining how I was feeling and asking for anti-depressants to be upped or changed. Eventually he decided to sent me to a psychiatrist and on my first appointment he said I had Bipolar. Is this normal on your first appointment.
Avatar f tn You shouldn't take either 5-HTP or St. John's Wort along with an anti-depressant, because it's theoretically possible to get an overdose of serotonin. I'm also curious about the term "mood swings." Anxiety and depression are what 5-HTP can help with, and St. John's Wort is for depression. Melatonin is a sleep aid. But mood swings are different from anxiety and depression.
Avatar f tn I've been on Cymbalta now for about a year. It has helped my depression and my energy levels. I'm bipolar also, so I'm on lithium. Without the lithium I felt anxious also. I'm on 60mg. of Cymbalta. At one time my doc didn't think the Cymbalta was working and I went down to 30mg. My depression got worse so I went back upto 60. I am feeling much better with the added lithium, my mood is much more even.
1258539 tn?1293840202 I have been living with severe anxiety and depression along with depersonalization for the last 6 months. I just started cymbalta 60mg. Was wondering if anyone thinks this might help with the anxiety and depersonalization feelings?
804276 tn?1480858056 i want to start taking cymbalta for bipolar depression and chronic pain and wondered if anyone takes this, what the side effects are and how it helped with pain and depression. i take prozac and lortab and would like to get off the lortab and can't take prozac all the time because it makes me severely anxious if i'm not in a major depression. any advice or experience stories would be helpful.
Avatar n tn All I wanted to do was sleep and be left alone. When I did interact, I was grizzly mean. I started back on the Cymbalta yesterday, b/c my depression was overwhelming and my meaness was clearly taking a toll on my husband and 4 year old. With all of that said, it seems that I may not be able to come off of Cymbalta right now. What do you know about women who took Cymbalta for the duration of the pregnancy? And how healthy were their babies? I'm not pregnant, yet.
Avatar f tn There are a variety of specific types of bipolar, some where mania is the predominant feature and depression less so. Some mood stabilizers specifically treat mania better than depression so you could ask your psychiatrist about that.
Avatar f tn Hi,My questtion is ,is anyone on just abilify for depression?
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been stable for 16 years only to have the bipolar illness come back again, then remission again for 16 years? Now I've been depressed the past 3 years. I'm on a recently increased dose of 2500 mg Depakote, 60 mg Cymbalta, 100 mg Lamictal, and 100 mg Geodon. Nothing really seems to help. I've felt sort of emotionless, unable to enjoy things like I used to. Just haven't felt like myself.
Avatar m tn I would personally urge caution. Do your homework. Cymbalta, as with all snris, isn't usually used if anxiety is the main problem, as it's a stimulating anti-depressant. It also is associated with liver problems, which came out when it recently applied for approval for chronic pain, which it is not currently approved for. It might just be the thing for you, but make sure whoever's prescribing it knows what he or she is doing.
692643 tn?1372611227 The two vary in how much the person experiences in regards to depression. You can look on the website "Depression Central" for more information. Its difficult because sometimes anti-depressents can make mania worse. It would be hard for me to discuss mood stabilizers that might work as many mood stabilizers (and many medications in general) can affect the liver.
525545 tn?1293181194 I wanted to know if anyone has been taking effexor for nearly a year my dosage is 150mg twice a day. Now my psychiatrist wants to put me on Cymbalta. He told me that it takes time for my body to accept the change and for a couple of weeks I won't have much of either in my system. I don't know what dosage is yet. I am wondering if I am doing the right thing. I have been battling severe depression and chronic pain for years. If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.
Avatar f tn He also added Cymbalta for depression. When she was on the Geodon, she functioned well, worked, was pretty stable and didn’t need an antidepressant. She is having a hard time with this transition (it's been a couple months now). She doesn’t feel “normal,” said she feels like her skin is crawling, she sleeps a lot during the day and is anxious about her future…wondering if the Clozaril doesn’t work, what will she be able to take.
Avatar n tn My best suggestion is to discuss this all over with your psychiatrist as perhaps you might have bipolar instead of depression and mood stabilizers such as Lithium, Depakoate and Lamictal are used for that and anti-depressents sometimes worsen mania. Speak to your psychiatrist about the moodswings and let them come to a conclusion as perhaps it could be rapid cycling (going from manic to depressed in a short period of time). Bipolar like depression is of course very treatable.
Avatar f tn m better and coming of med) I have been back on medication now for 2 years with a few changes to try and find something that suits me as I also suffer with pain attacks. The medication I currently take is cymbalta 60mg daily, how ever after being on it for 6 months now I don't feel any better.
Avatar f tn for you? There are so many posts right now about depression and anti depressants--I wanted to bring up those of us who HAVE TO take them no matter what before, during and after treatment and what effects using riba/pegasis has had on our already "stable/unstable" minds/moods... I am now @ my 41 st week of treatment and have not had it pretty rough from the beginning --not only physcially but in later weeks emotionally....
98010 tn?1305899735 Had a really rough time in the beginning with the cymbalta and has resisted trying to go to something else. Thoughts? It seemed like the first month with Cymbalta helped with the depression (although awful side effects), but then started having a reverse effect. Has this happened to anyone else? 3) Finally just a theoretical question. People keep telling him that he can control his mind and that his mind doesn't control him.
Avatar m tn I have been posting on the neurology forum due to my symptoms of numbness & tingling all over my body . I do have an abnormal MRI. I have seen a surgeon and he says he can see where the numbness could affect my arms but not my whole body. I finally broke down and went to a Psychiatrist. I was diagnosed as "classic , textbook bipolar. I have taken zoloft for years now, but he changed me to Cymbalta & added depakote.
Avatar f tn have always told me that it usually takes at least two weeks for you to start feeling better once you start on any new med for depression. I would give it a little more time and try to think positive that it is going to help. The mind can be a powerful thing, look how it can sometimes react to just a placebo. If you still are not feeling better in a week I would contact your DR., maybe the dose needs to be increased.
Avatar f tn crying, insomnia, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, heart disease, just found out I definitely have liver disease...on and on it goes. I would be sure that I have a physician that you can truly speak with and that can SEE the symptoms when you are in the room with him/her. My new family dr. can see what I go through and this makes me trust him more. I am praying for you and do what your dr. recommends!! Talk soon!
