Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta and your liver

cymbalta

Avatar f tn My pain doc started me on cymbalta and gabapentin. Of course I will continue my blood pressure meds but was not sure about the new meds. I would appreciate the feedback, I have not treated before. I want to so badly. I have so little energy. Of course I have fibromyalgia too but I should feel alot better if I can get rid of the hep.
Avatar n tn All ssris and snris have as a common side effect increased bleeding and bruising. It's why they warn against using NSAIDS when you're on them except under a doctor's care. But I would be concerned if it's happening this soon after starting, and I'd also look into the recent concern over liver problems and Cymbalta. I'd talk to my psychiatrist and do some homework to see if this is the best med for you.
Avatar m tn have broadened a warning about possible liver problems with Cymbalta, a drug used to treat depression and pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. "Postmarketing reports of liver injury (including hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice) suggest that patients with pre-existing liver disease who take [Cymbalta] may have an increased risk for further liver damage," says the FDA. Cymbalta's labeling previously noted possible liver problems.
Avatar f tn There is a risk from duloxetine in general can cause kidney and liver trouble in some, drinking alcohol while on this drug increases this likely hood and if your a alcoholic then my advice is to have 6 month blood tests of your kidney and liver functions.
Avatar n tn I also take a lot of Oxycontin, Oxycodone, and etc. I would recommend that if you want to try Cymbalta, just have your liver enzymes checked before dosing, after three months, then check it as you wish. The anti-depression action does take about a month to kick in, so why take a potential health hazard and wait a month to see if it helps. The commercials warn about liver problems, just listen to the them. I'm switching to another drug that works and is safer next week.
Avatar n tn Agree with the above, but it is known that this drug can be highly liver toxic to some people, so make sure your liver is fine. It is also very hard to stop taking. So you want to take that into consideration as well.
Avatar m tn I have no idea if anyone is still looking at this very old post, a new post might get new answers if you have any questions. It's hard to see how Cymbalta would cause you to get an odd tumor in the brain that messes up your adrenal gland. It can mess up your adrenal gland for other reasons, as it affects how the brain uses norepinephrine, but Cushing's has a cause, which is a tumor in the pituitary gland.
217229 tn?1192762404 If you drink ANY alcohol while on it, it damages your liver and can cause hallucinations....Pay attention to your labs and what they show for your calcium, potassium, and magnesium levels. any one of these being low can increase/ cause muscle/ nerve pain as they are crucial in the conduction of nerve impulses...Hope this helps! Good luck on finding some relief!
Avatar f tn my son just so happens to be here right now. he has been on cymbalta for two years now...after trying prozac and effexor. he has alot of anxiety also and it seems to work the best for him. i asked him about the side effects...and he said he had none...no brain zaps either. guess everyone is different on how things affect them. the prozac and effexor both made him more depressed.
Avatar f tn All of the meds you are on are very common meds for treatment really. Most likely the ribavirin is what is keeping you up at night - unfortunately it's one of the problems we have. While we should always try to take the minimum of meds because of our liver damage - you have to remember we live in a real world and we gotta do what we gotta do.
Avatar f tn , and after she found out I drink wine on a regular basis (10 drinks a week) she wants to pull me off of Cymbalta due to the liver implications and the other medication I am on. I do NOT have any liver function problems as my enzymes were tested in the fall when I was on Diltiazam for my BP and my Mitral Valve Prolapse. Now Psych is putting me on Prestique and I hope it works as well and doesn't harm my liver. Does anyone have experience with Pristique?
1348086 tn?1370783185 s probably the least troublesome of all these meds. Cymbalta is liver toxic for many and one of the hardest to get off of, while Prozac is one of the easiest to come off of since it stays in the body for a lot longer time and therefore the withdrawal is, for most people, slower and easier. Why not give it a try? It's the only way to find out, really, since we all react differently.
Avatar f tn t know if this applies to menstrual bleeding, but it might. Cymbalta is also liver toxic to some who use it, and when your liver is not functioning optimally lots of other things can change and go wrong. Finally, antidepressants, especially those that target serotonin, often affect sexual performance and interest and ability to reach orgasm, which is an indication they might be affecting sexual hormones.
1008841 tn?1293598960 Because it is possible that Cymbalta/duloxetine and alcohol may interact to cause liver injury or that Cymbalta/duloxetine may aggravate pre-existing liver disease, Cymbalta should not be prescribed to patients with substantial alcohol use or evidence of chronic liver disease." "Then this year they started me Effixer..." Effexor is known to increase the risk of bleeding. If you have cirrhosis and portal hypertension you are already at an increased risk for bleeding.
924711 tn?1290266557 Your individual sensitivity to a toxin is an unknown (and hep c makes your liver work less well so damage is greater). Research beyong the manufacturer's label. You will rarely find liver damage from the drug listed even in the rare side effects section of the label. You will find references to liver damage by a drug in professional papers but you'll need to dig. Good luck on your search.
Avatar f tn From what I have read and heard from almost every doctor most antidepressants are safe for the liver. There are noted dose changes for people with liver disease on some of the drugs but overall they are safe. However anyone can react to a drug diffrent than others have, so a follow up blood test is always recommended. I do however know of one drug, Cymbalta, has been flaged by the FDA as not safe for anyone with liver disease.
Avatar f tn ================================================ DO NOT stop taking your capsules without the advice of your doctor even if you feel better. If your doctor thinks that you no longer need Cymbalta he or she will ask you to reduce your dose over at least 2 weeks before stopping treatment altogether.
1348086 tn?1370783185 I do know that she said normal levels are up to 40 and these 2 were 76 and 72. I take Cymbalta and do drink some wine. Where can I find a chart for normal levels and such. I cannot find any charts online.
Avatar f tn For the first two months he wants me to take the hydrocodone as prescribed and 30 days of Cymbalta 30 mg and another 30 days at 60 mg after that he said he would be able to get me off of the hydrocodone completely but it was unsafe if I didn't do both at the same time. Does anybody have any clarification as to why it's dangerous to quit hydrocodone and go straight to Cymbalta without being on both of them for a .
8496079 tn?1398412516 I also have Hep C and I worry about my liver. Most of my pain is in my lower back and hips and it is getting worse. I still have to start Cymbalta but I think I will tonight. I am so wanting some relief. Wish I could tell you more. Maybe we can some feedback from someone who has been on it longer.
Avatar m tn I was dignosed with sever depression,Anxiety sleep disorder and mood swing. I dosent sound that bad..... But it runs in my family. Avatar f tn Even if people cant get of the mens, it is worth seeing how low one can go with the dosage, because they cant be good for your, body, liver and kidneys have to deal with them every day.
Avatar f tn Hi thanks for answering my post.. I just started taking cymbalta. I read up on the side effects and it said it was hard on the liver.. I guess i thought i would try it for a month and if there arent any changes then I will go back to my other meds. Im not sure why they would ask me to take something that could be hard on the liver at all but I trust my family doc.. anyhow.. I have only been on it now for a few days and so far it just makes me more tired.. lol Anyhow.. I just keep on smiling.
Avatar m tn Please make sure you understand the side effects of any and all meds your daughter is taking and keep a close watch to make sure she is doing OK with the transition. Please post again if you have any other questions or concerns. Someone is always up around here and has a pot of coffee going.
Avatar f tn He deserves a medal. If your fiancee stops you from doing treatment if that is what you and your doctor have decided is needed, I'd kick him right to the curb. No guy is worth that.
