Cymbalta and topamax

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta and topamax

cymbalta

/ I had all those symptoms and worse Ive seen cardiologist, neurologist, and 10 trips to the emergency room and 2 months into topamax and all those side affect are gone. just drink water...
anyway, my question is--Has anyone had luck with cymbalta? And does cymbalta work for fibro and cfs? Why isn't he referring me to a neuro or a pain mgmt doc?
This week I will be starting a double-blind study to see if 30 mg is effective for FMS pain. I won't know for some time if I'm using the placebo or the actual Cymbalta. I am sensitive to medications and I am a skeptic, since I've done badly on everything I've tried before. I do more natural therapy than I do pharmaceutical. I guess I will also find out if this stuff will help with the number of and intensity of the chronic migraines, too.
These medicines are thought to work by increasing the activity of chemicals called serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. Where both Paxil and Cymbalta work on Serotonin the Cymbalta works on Norepinephrine which is the chemical that helps with pain sensation in the body. Since you had a problem with serotonin, just like I do, ask your doctor about Wellbutrin. This medicine focuses on Norepinephrine and dopamine which is an energy chemical.
Topamax when first starting, you must start low mg and slowly increase. (Same with Cymbalta actually) With Topamax, when starting, I had loose stools, dry mouth and lips (bad), and funny taste in my mouth. Decreased tastes for sweets, carbonated soda or other beverage, increased thirst, decreased hunger, and I think thats all. All disipated after time. Although I wish the decreased sweet tooth and soda dislike stayed.
She is currently taking Topamax. Please give opinion/information. I also have migraines, I am on lyrica, cymbalta, and Relpax.
and my doctor said Xenical and Meridia cause really horrible bowel problems..... so Topamax was a good choice ... and as far as the aniexty is concerned and depression...I feel like a new person... I have more energy and I just can't explain it... everyone at work says...oh, did you color your hair... or did you get a makeover or something ?... have you lost weight... what's different .... I LOVE THIS DRUG !! To all of you who have never been fat and depressed ...
I have digenerative disc disease and my neirologist just prescribed topamax, he said it would help with the pain and tingling but could result in weight loss. I am wondering if prescribing topamax for ddd is common among neurologists? I can't seem to find any other information related to topamax as a pain med, only information I have is that it's a powerful drug with lots of side effects, most not so good. The weight loss aspect is the only plus...
I took Cymbalta for 4 yrs and finally just got off of it. While Cymbalta did help manage both my depression and muscle pain, the side effects were what i hated about it. I never had digestion problems from it, but my stomach hurt constantly and my appetite disappeared. Eating became a chore and if i got distracted with school/work responsibilities, i would forget to eat, sometimes for 2 days. I also developed hyperhydrosis and always had a chemical/metalic taste in my mouth.

I started Topamax in November of this year at 25mg a week and have been increasing the dose by 25mg per week and will reach 200mg next week to reach my limit. My doctor prescribed it for my migraines as I had requested it since all the other treatments seemed to have weight gain as a side effect while this one was the opposite with weight loss as a possibility.
I've been on 120mg of Cymbalta for almost 4 years. My PM Doc put me on it to treat horrendous nerve pain, which it does make a difference with. I was able to reduce (greatly!) the level of opiate based pain meds I was on as a result of the Cymbalta. BUT I was still working when I firts started it, and I felt it made me feel "Zombie" during the day, so my Doc switched me to taking both pills @night, which helped with the daytime drowsiness.
My Doctor tried putting me on Cymbalta when I said that I thought that Topamax was causing the depression but Cymbalta makes me nauseated all the time and seemed to make things worse not better. I do think I need a new Doctor. What is Maxalt like? I have been on Imetrex and that seemed to make the anxiety worse. I don't respond well to meds.
I am taking Cymbalta for my Fybromyalgia. I am on my 2nd week and I still cannot concentrate on anything. I cannot watch television or read or even sit still long enough to have a conversation. If I am standing I have to move if I am sitting then I am shaking my leg(like you do when you are impatient). Is this supposed to happen? I was also give trazodone to take at bedtime..but that was one of the worst nights of my life, there is no way I can even leave the house if I am taking those 2 meds.
I have been researching Topamax and all I can find is info. about seizures and migraines. Why would he give me this, and is it addictive? Anyone have any knowledge?
DnnTrry- I switched from Lyrica to Topamax completely mostly because of the weight gain and cost. Lyrica and Topamax are both anti-seizure meds and do not have any major interactions, but I understand your apprehension. Also, side effects from Topamax are most crippling usually when you increase too fast. I hope your doctor didn't place you on 50mg right off the bat??? That dosage is sure to give you some discomfort.
I'm being treated for chronic headaches/migraines.4yr history, only within last 6 months went back to neurologist to seek MD help again after MANY pro-active "natural" then OTC methods had failed.(4yrs ago several CT's/MRI's, then arterialgram ruled out a possible AVM or any other serious cause) Other than aboritive Relpax or Imitrex, was started on combo of Lyrica/Amitriptaline(?) Topamax ruled out due to "nerve" symptoms he said it wouldn't help.
There is one called Follicle Booster which is expensive, but helps a lot. And drink tons of water. Topamax is dehydrating and water will help the tingling sensations you get, along with the brain fog that comes with it. A couple of gallons of water a day will help. That's a lot, but you'll notice the difference. Plus you need to replenish your electrolytes with an occasional sports drink. Again, speaking from experience here. Good luck!
alternate Cymbalta 60mg and cymbalta 30 mg.
I have tapered off the anti depressant and he put me on Topamax and I'm up to 100 mg a day. I read that Omega 3 and vitamin C helps those taking Topamax and for bipolar. Who out there can suggest other suppiments to help my brain?
No mention of female inability to orgasm, no mention of male ejaculatory failure, no mention of sexual anhedonia or sexual anesthesia in both men and women and no mention of loss of libido or sex drive in both men and women. All the consumer of modern antidepressants is being told is that there maybe some poor sexual performance. This is meaningless, unfair and disingenuous. But unfortunately, it gets much worse.
why did you lose 30lbs? I think it is worrisome, you should have your doctors check you out completely for a possible malignancy. Sorry, to be so blunt, but neuropathies can sometimes precede malignancies. You should have a mammogram and other testing just to make sure.
Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
I have bipolar with major depression for more than 20yrs. I have missed and ruined the best years of my life and my kids life the things I wanted I never did them well maybe in my next lifetime. So u no I am over 50 and hope not to live that long, but I just in not even a year put on over 40 pounds which I was that weight when I was 13yrs and talk about bullying in 1960 was depressing.
Since doing the start pack to increase from 12.5 to 25 to 50 and then this weekend 100 mg, and cycling down from the Cymbalta (withdrawals sucked on that one), I am sick at my stomach all of the time and have stomach cramps, and lack of appetite. When I do eat, I get diarrhea and nausia. Is this something that's going to stick with me? Glad to not be gaining weight (the Cymbalta stuck me with 20 pounds in 30 days, so losing would be great, but the stomach **** stinks!
Does anyone know of any medications other than Geodon, Depakote and Lexapro to treat Bipolar? I have been depressed for over 3 years, and I've also tried Lithium, Lamictal, Cymbalta and Buspar. I wake up dreading the day, and I feel very anxious all day, like I don't want to stay unoccupied. My thoughts are all about how I'm never going to beat this thing; it feels almost like something alien has taken over my brain. I also can't yawn anymore. I know it sounds stupid, but I can't yawn.

I am currently taking 900mg of Lithium and 100mg of Topamax and 90mg of Cymbalta, although I am going to discontinue the Cymbalta and possibly the Topamax. This is because I am so tired and still depressed. In the past I have been put on Lexapro and went manic, but I would like to try it again since it it had and effect before. Do you think it is safe to try again? If not the lexapro, do you have any other suggestions for antidepressants not in the same category as Cymbalta?
I had severe migraines avg. 4 times a week. I take topamax and since I started 5 years ago the migraines stopped but the headaches persist. I get several different kinds of headaches rangeing from a pain level of 4 to 12. Ten being the usual highest. Some include the center of my back up, some include my shoulders, some include my neck and face which is the myofascial layer of muscles that burn and tighten.
