Cymbalta and menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta and menopause

cymbalta

Avatar f tn I am a 52 year old female. Post menopause and on hormones. Just hot my thyroid levels at a good level. I switched from pristiq to cymbalta back in November. I am tired ALL the time. More than when my thyroid was out of whack. Could the cymbalta be causing this and if so, what if I took it at night?
1094370 tn?1317134825 Then, I started on Cymbalta at time of Menopause. Went off the Cymbalta for a while and then back on when I noticed the tinnitus starting. I also had a ton of amalgams removed unsafely (I did not know better) years before the menopause thing, but just to give you some ideas of my history. Anyhow, had two really bad bouts of vertigo but that has been maybe 2-4 years ago since the last.
11852 tn?1216841443 Just got from the endo. Good news is all my scans came back clean, so it looks like I'm cancer-free. I would be doing the happy dance, but I'm too dam tired to really care. Sad isn't it! Doc ask me how I was feeling and I told her about the extreme fatigue I've felt for a long time. I asked if there could be other causes besides thyroid history and the menopause. Her theory is I'm depressed and Effexor (taking for hot flashes) isn't working.
Avatar n tn I have subsequently had radio active therapy and the result was becoming Hypothyroid and having to take thyroxine replacement. I really struggled through menopause as a result of trying to balance the thyroid, the Estrogen and Progesterine, HRT was a nightmare for me, but a totally different topic.
Avatar n tn Hi! Usually changes that are rapid are more likely to be something simple such as a yeast infection, although I would expect you to have some additional symptoms. Premature menopause is unlikely to present this way. Pregnancy could OR a condition called acanthosis nigricans which is seen in PCOS patients. Neither seems to fit your bill.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am 42 yrs old, I missed my period by 2 days, and on the weekend I was rushed to the hospital for food poisoning, my white blood cell count is high, and I feel better 2 days after the food poisoning. So I am wondering if I could be pregnant. I know I am old and I know my changes are very low, and I am in a place in my life where I don't want this to happen. I have looked into lyme disease, and any blood diseases assosiated with high wbc.
1258539 tn?1293840202 I am having severe anxiety attacks all day and everyday. I am in menopause and not taking any supplements. I am taking up to 3.5mg of xanax a day. My mornings are the absolute worst. I have depersonalization feelings. I don't know if this could be caused by the xanax. I need help. I have been taking up to this dose for about 6 months. I am scared and don't know what to do. I do not feel like myself at all. Please someone help!
Avatar m tn Hello there, Basically your doctor gave you choice between 2 class of drug. One being selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) like Lexapro and the other being serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) like Pristiq. (Pristiq is being targeted as the first non-hormonal based treatment for menopause.) In my humble opinion, and consider that i'm not a doctor, i would talk to you doctor about Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn All antidepressants have the black box warning of suicidal thoughts and actions. In the cymbalta anti depressant trials, 9 attempted suicides and 4 actual suicides occurred in healthy, non depressed people who volunteered to make extra money. The case of 19 year old student Traci Johnson, healthy with no mental health issues who hanged herself in the cymbalta trials, was big news. When this story broke, clinical trial volunteers dropped 20%.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have suffered with migraines for many years & was placed on prophylactic meds-Cymbalta & Propranolol. About 3 months ago I developed Trigeminal Neuritis on my R side. I have to say it was the most painful affliction I ever experienced, even worse than the 2 spinal fusions I underwent! I was placed on Trileptal & am up to 600mg 2x/day, as well as continuing with Cymbalta & Propranolol.
924711 tn?1290266557 I have been given both cymbalta and prozak. The prozak is less expensive, but what worked for you? I have hep C and fibro and alot of joint pain. Of course I am depressed due to all of that going on, all diagnosed since menopause a few years back. The hep C has been dormant for at least 20 yrs, has to have been that long since exposed. Got any suggestions for me? Besides a gunshot to the head? Nah, just joking!
Avatar m tn Finally realized it was the Cymbalta. I went to my doctor and he ended putting me back on Effexor and Gabapentin. So I went through all of that hell and was basically back to where I started. That's about it in a nutshell.
Avatar f tn Iv'e been bad with nerves since I was 20 am now 58. It still goes on. I take cymbalta for depression and diazepam. I seem to go 3 to 4 months then something happens. I started losing my balance a fortnight since and couldn't stand for long though I have catarrh in my head since the weather came colder.
Avatar f tn I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
Avatar f tn Actually the family member who has cyclothymia had hot flashes before the onset of menopause and has thyroid problems as well and has to take a minor dose of synthroid so it might be the first which is always worse in bipolar and the second which is a possibility.
1476999 tn?1287247477 Also, to get 15 years out of one medication is rare, it may be that you have built up a tolerance to the Paxil as well and it is no longer working for you. Menopause and hormones can cause problems too. Since you have small children to raise, think about this, they need their mommy. Alcohol is a form of self medicating and can lead you down a slippery slope. Don't look for drugs you are able to drink with, look at cutting way back on consuming any alcohol....
1094370 tn?1317134825 It makes a huge difference in so many bodily systems, including nervous system and mood. The transition from regular hormone levels through the up-and-down of menopause to get to post-menopause is very very difficult for some, and it was for me, so no regrets in using HRT. Def. worthwhile. Once menopause is off the table, then you can taper off the HRT and see how it goes. Some women do fine with no more HRT, some need it to keep going. But you can decide that later.
596143 tn?1226648054 I'm on Cymbalta for moodswings and fibro. Someone posted that they were on Cymbalta and Lamactil and it worked well. Cant find the post. Anyone taking this combination and does it work.
Avatar n tn I was put on cymbalta for depression and nerve pain ( RSD ). I hate taking new medicines I know nothing about. I am young and I am afraid of it. I start off taking 30 mgs for a week than increase to 60 than I will get up to 120 at some point. Could someone please tell me something about this drug? Is it safe? Thanks Susan...
1258539 tn?1293840202 Overall I think Cymbalta is one of the best medication out there but this have a cost. Cymbalta cost is outrageous and Cymbalta is very hard to stop. I stopped cold-turkey after using it for only 5 months and I had brain zaps for a little more than a month. The withdrawal was quite severe but it is expected with all potent powerful antidepressant.
Avatar f tn personal_page_id=817569 The link above takes you to the person on here who wrote about Cymbalta and Abilify helping her daughters. It is written in five parts. Thought you might be interested.
Avatar n tn I have come off of a lot of my medications. My final meds are Wellbutrin, Trazodone and Cymbalta. The Wellbutrin is suppose to take the place of the cymbalta. After horrible withdrawal, I came completely off of Cymbalta last week. I became so depressed that I couldn't stand to talk, much less move. All I wanted to do was sleep and be left alone. When I did interact, I was grizzly mean.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about the hot flashes but my friend went to a natural food store and gave her something from the menopause section that made her much better. Buy a small fan and keep it on your night stand. Mine is on all the time, even in the winter. Cold water with ice works great when you get it. I wouldn't take hormones so I just dealt with it. I started menopause at 50 and now I'm 56 and I still get them but only once in awhile.
Avatar n tn The average dose for Cymbalta is 60mg per day, and although some doctors do prescribe it 120mg per day...there is no evidence to prove that it helps any more than the 60 mg per day. The maximim dose for Prozac is 80mg per day so you're still below the highest dosage on that one. I doubt your doctor will increase the Cymbalta anymore, and if he tries to...find another doctor! Best wishes.
Avatar f tn My sister started taking Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia and her appetite dropped a lot, and just a few months later she was pre-diabetic. I have read some other people's comments saying that going on or even going off of cymbalta has really messed up their blood sugar. some people even say that it made them diabetic. so if you are on cymbalta, just watch out for some of the pre-diabetes symptoms and tell your doctor about any weird eating habit changes that happen.
Avatar f tn Namaste, mcmcorp45 offers excellent information and advice and it is true that studies have shown that Cymbalta does note alter the reproduction process. If this is going to be your first child and you are having difficulties, I would consult with a doctor, who may need to refer you to a specialist as mcmcorp45 mentioned. Don't forget to have both parties evaluated for a possible problem.
Avatar n tn And Paxil gives more people a rough time upon stopping than any other antidepressant other than Effexor (and, ahem, Cymbalta). Your friend should have been tapered off the Paxil, and maybe was, but if not, and even if your friend was, there's a lot going on now possibly, too much for us to say which is which.
