Cymbalta and kidney function

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta and kidney function

cymbalta

I took Cymbalta for 4 yrs and finally just got off of it. While Cymbalta did help manage both my depression and muscle pain, the side effects were what i hated about it. I never had digestion problems from it, but my stomach hurt constantly and my appetite disappeared. Eating became a chore and if i got distracted with school/work responsibilities, i would forget to eat, sometimes for 2 days. I also developed hyperhydrosis and always had a chemical/metalic taste in my mouth.
This is definitely something I hope you are reporting to your doctor. I was more worried about reduced kidney function and high blood pressure, than the pain that would return, if I stopped using the drug. I am sorry that this drug is causing you problems, DJ. It was a good drug at reducing some of my pain. I used Cymbalta in conjunction with prescribed pain medication and for once I thought I was truly going to have some quality of life, without so much pain.
So my doc put me on 30mg of Cymbalta 4 months ago and I noticed zero help with the pains. So I stopped taking it about 5 days ago. As of yesterday I felt like I was an absolute mess. I had been having these HORRIBLE headaches, nausea, dizzy spells, confusion, and crying spells out of nowhere. This all brought me to do a little bit of research and I found out it is all withdrawal symptoms. I don't want to start taking the pills again since they did not work for the reason I was taking them.
I have just started Cymbalta and have noticed a tremendous increase in my appetite. I think I can try and control it however, I was wondering if this would be enough. I don't want to continue on the drug if the weight gain comes from slowing one's metabolism down. I think it would just be easier to get off the drug now then later.
No mention of female inability to orgasm, no mention of male ejaculatory failure, no mention of sexual anhedonia or sexual anesthesia in both men and women and no mention of loss of libido or sex drive in both men and women. All the consumer of modern antidepressants is being told is that there maybe some poor sexual performance. This is meaningless, unfair and disingenuous. But unfortunately, it gets much worse.
I have alot of pain in low back and hip areas all the time and some days it seems to radiate up to the kidney area. Have you talked to your dr about it? Maybe it is something besides the fibro. Do you drink enough water? I know that causes me alot of kidney pain if I don't. Just a few thoughts. Hope you can get it figured out. This is a great place to get advice...and support from people who understand. Gentle hugs.
Check if tests for thyroid and diabetes were done. Check if kidney function tests were done. Check if the cause of low red blood cells and blood in urine, has been looked into. Only seeing a rheumatologist will probably not help, though a step in the right direction. Maybe a specialist in internal medicine and urologist will be able to help you better. If your symptoms are related to your menstrual cycle then probably you should see a gynecologist too.
Am currently taking, Neurontin, Celebrex, Cymbalta, a muscle relaxer, Trazadone. Have intermintent periods of dizziness and loss of balance. Had a problem with WPW. My main problem is chronic pain, docs say it is fibromyalgia but they don't know why the brain lesions. Can the brain lesions be related to pain. Could they be the causing factor? I live in a rural area in northern MN and am not really confident in the health care up here. Any suggestions?
Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done.
I have been taking norco throughout my pregnancy because I felt like taking just my breakthrough meds was better then taking it with Morphine, and also better then taking nothing and being unable to function as a human being. My dr was not in agreeance, she throught I should stay on the morphine because of withdrawals but I convinced her that if they got to any point where I was uncomfortable I would take it but I was unable to persevere and just take my norco.
Do not take Lyrica if you have had kidney problems, or have had heart problem including heart failure. My CREAT was 1.31 and BUN 36 when she ordered it and she knew it. Currently I take 15 mg Morphine every 6 hrs. and 5mg oxycodone as needed for breakthrough . It's not doing the trick anymore. I need a raise. This prescription is a year plus old.. Thanks in advance for any replies in this issue....
I had the same thing with the Yaz. I was on Yasmin and switched to Yaz and promptly gained about 5 or more pounds. No problems at all with Yasmin, and I was on it for 5 or more years. I still work out like I did on Yasmin, and I've never eaten a lot, although, the Yaz does make me hungry all the time, and I can't seem to get rid of this bloating. I spot constantly and cramp. I have another friend that is the same way.
also could this drug alter my brain function since I know it is used for bi-polar and seizure disorder... I'd like to know more about this med both from a neurologists view and from a weight loss specialists view.
I have also tried lots of drugs neurotics, cymbalta, niacin, vitamins like the Bs and other. At is point not sure who else to talk to or what else to try, so any thoughts would be much appreciated:) Other issues: Migraines Link to other post I have made: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Undiagnosed-Symptoms/-Long-term-foot-and-ankle-pain/show/2039220 http://www.medhelp.
If I do any physical activity my hands and feet will turn very red and be very hot and I can feel the heat radiating off my hands and feet. If I am outside and the weather is hot and I am wearing flipflops my feet will get beat red and so will my hands. I dont feel any pain but it is uncomfortable because i can feel something happening in my feet and even my legs. If i take a hot shower my feet and legs become beat red and my legs get blue even and I dont know why.
I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.

For years I would pass out for no reason and have bursts of energy then all of a sudden get real tired and would even have trouble w/ my memory and have trouble maintaing weight just all kinds of things and these spells would last for a couple of weeks before I would recover. At the age of 17 I started producing kidney stones and for years I kept switching doctors who just kept dismissing everything.
This rare disorder causes a sharp drop in platelets, destruction of red blood cells and impairment of kidney function. Sometimes it can occur in association with a bacterial Escherichia coli (E. coli) infection, such as may be acquired from eating raw or undercooked meat. Medications. Certain medications can reduce the number of platelets in your blood by confusing the immune system and causing it to destroy platelets.
I was put on Cymbalta and only took it for about 2 weeks and then found out I was pregnant. #1. While I took it 30mg... It worked. #2. I dindt take it long enouhg to fully see its potential but I liked it. #3. coming off of it is hard. I stopped taking it without telling my pcp and that was a bad move. I was SOOOOOOOOOOO DIZZY so doctors say to come off u have to do it gradually. I am thinking of going back on it after I have my baby...well see. Good luck.
Welcome to Part 6! Please make yourself at home!
Like i said i have been on 5 years and get blood work twice a year and my liver kidney and other organs are perfect! My blood pressure and cholesterol are perfect too, im very healthy and i work out too. Opiates if taken RESPONSIBLY which 90% of people cant do and dont have the self control to do, but if you have strong will power and take them responsibly instead of just getting ****** up out of your mind all day, then they are MUCH better for you than xanax and other benzos.
Thanks for your post! It was comical yet informative! Yesterday was a REALLY bad day for me. I work up and could barely walk. My knees hurt so bad! Along with my ankles, shoulders, wrists, fingers, and hips. They were all inflamed but no redness. A friend of mine has told me for the longest time that she thinks that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I think this is a great possibility since it does run in my family.
My first neurologist prescribed Cymbalta 60mg daily, Rozerem and Fioricet. The rozerem does not help at all with the sleep. I need to take 2 Fioricet's to make any headaches go away but I find that taking two will make me extremely tired. As far as the Cymbalta, I don't feel any different mentally but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to feel. I do work in a stressful job and for the past year have had many additional stressors.
This pain would intensify which would cause me to wince in pain and then release and then repeat all over again every 5-10 seconds for about a minute. This pain did not radiate anywhere but only within a specific point. Then this same stabbing sensation occurred half way up to the first knuckle of my right middle finger about 30 minutes later. Then immediately following this finger pain I felt pain in my right foot at the joint of my middle toe.
so when I was getting so sick from the Graves disease, I thought it was from the new medication. I called the doctor and got off of my Cymbalta for the RSD pain and kept figuring that one more day and I would bettered from it.. after about two weeks and me getting weaker and weaker, where I could hardly even take a shower without feeling like I was going to pass out. One night, my blood pressure was 160/121 and my pulse was 145.
In some patients with more severe pain I will also consider pain modifying medications such as Cymbalta, lyrica and neurontin but these all have potential side effects so these are recommended on a case by case basis. Very rarely do I prescribe daily pain medications such as tramadol or even mild narcotic medications, such as codeine. I even have some patients who have benetited from accupunture but not many.
What I want to know is if there is anyone out there on Lyrica that is having a urinary/kidney problem? My lower back have really hurt now for a few days and nothing is helping. It hurts to walk. I try to drink a lot of water daily as I don't drink soda. It has been increasingly difficult to urinate. The urge is there but I have to push on the bladder to achieve any results - sounds fun-huh? Somewhere I read that Lyrica does this to some people.
The sensation is as if my head and neck are throbbing with pressure and I have to stop walking or slow down and stop and stand still for a minute or so to make the sensation stop. Sounds are muffled in rhythm with the pulsations and I sometimes feel as if I will pass out, but never have. There is no pain. I have been checked throughly by my GP, a cardiologist, and an electrophysiologist and none of them could find a cause.
And a lipid panel has absolutely nothing to do with your kidney function it's checks cholestrol and liver function.
