cymbalta and elavil

Now wants me to get off of Elavil 25mg and Adderal 15mg. Doctor says take the Neurontin for sleep. The Elavil works best for pain, but I can hardly get up in the mornings and it has made me gain 10 plus pounds and counting. I take Clonapin 0.5mg twice a day. Getting off the Elavil, I am having cold feet and hands and a very unsettling feeling and absolutley no energy. Is this withdraw and how long do i suffer?

Well, I the doctor said to just go off of the elavil and go on Cymbalta the next day as I was on such a low dose of elavil anyways. We'll see how it goes.

Went to the dr today and he gave me a trial presciption for Elavil. He said it is an antidepressant used for nerve pain and that it may help with the pain and burning I've been having. Has anyone else ever used this? I'm really nervous about trying it. I don't like antidepressants. I'm thinking I can tolerate the pain. It's just the burning sensation I am gettin in my shins and top of feet that gets uncomfortable.

I take Lyrica and Cymbalta and they help with the neuropathic pain associated with the Fibro and Diabectic nerve pain. The Cymbalta helps with a little pain. Side effects for me? I'm dizzy and sleepy in the daytime, but I take other things like Vicodin 750, Klonopin, Flexeril and Ambien, and Paxil. I gained weight with the Diabetes, so I can't tell. But I loved carbs before all of this.

This week I will be starting a double-blind study to see if 30 mg is effective for FMS pain. I won't know for some time if I'm using the placebo or the actual Cymbalta. I am sensitive to medications and I am a skeptic, since I've done badly on everything I've tried before. I do more natural therapy than I do pharmaceutical. I guess I will also find out if this stuff will help with the number of and intensity of the chronic migraines, too.

I have been on Remeron for a few months and it has really helped with my anxiety. Recently my Doctor added cymbalta for nerve pain. This is only my third day with the cymbalta and my anxiety level is shooting through the roof. Also I have this dang ringing in my ears that does not want to go away. I questioned my doctor about taking remeron and cymbalta together and asured me that they work great together. I honestly don't know if I can stand this feeling.

I was put on cymbalta last october and it has seemed to hep tremedously with the hip and leg pain.... Maybe it might help.

I stopped using Elavil and Tramadol (was only on it for a month) Been on vicodin 5 months and the Dr now put me on cymbalta and lorazepam but will not refill vicodin. I was only taking about 3-4 pills a day but dont I need to wein off and will I have withdrawls?? And replacing the vicodin with these other drugs cant be a good thing, can it?? Need some advice quickly if possible.

Treatment for neuropathic pain (pain coming from nerves) includes neurontin and lyrica, and medications such as elavil (which is an antidepressant but has actually been found to be helpful with neuropathic pain as well). Other antidepressants are also helpful, such as zoloft, and the treatment for both neuropathy and fibromyalgia is similar, and often, more than one medication is necessary to control the symptoms.

Lyrica helps to inhibit Stage 3 and 4 sleep, which is crucial for your body. Elavil is another one that will inhibit sleep. I'll warn you that it does cause extreme sleepiness the next day so my doctor suggested cutting the dose in half to 5 mg and only taking it every other day if it causes you problems. Some people are fine with it, others can't tolerate it. It's worth trying though. As hard as it might be, keep hanging in there. You are not alone in your feelings of desperation.

Hi..I'm new here and hoping that someone might be able to answer this question. Can Elavil be used as an effective means to releive morphine withdrawl symtoms? I'm about to go down that road and I know the agony of withdrawl from morphine and don't want to go through it again...or at least as bad as it was before. I have decreased my morphine intake from 150mg a day down to 90mg within two days.

She is having a very tuff time nowadays and i cannot understand why. Mom took Elavil 50mg. each night and a half of a darvon to help her rest for 45 years .and was doing fine! ,,until about a year and a half ago whe had a lot of trauma in our large family of 12 children ,and she was having trouble sleeping(imagine that all us kids) Anyway she went to her medical doctor and he stopped her Elavil cold !

Other people have listed Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine), Neurontin (Gabepentin), Elavil (Amitriptyline) and Lyrica (Pregabalin) as some alternatives. I am currently on Lyrica + Cymbalta. I can't say that it's working but still playing with dosages. Anyone reading, please feel free to add your own choices and/or experiences.

My doctor put me on Elavil (amitryptiline) and Cymbalta right away when the anxiety first started, and it was horrible for me. I was sleepless and hallucinating and withdrawn while feeling jittery inside. I dropped the Cymbalta right away and continued to have stimulant problems with the Elavil. I just got up and had my first of doses of 1 Ultram, 0.25 Xanax, and 1 Effexor and I can hardly type because of the nerves.

It is unpleasant I would see if you could speak to doctor and have one cymbalta one prozak for a few days and then go just into the prozak. There is something you can do. Its up to you depending on how much it is bothering you. Hope that help!!

After reading these posts and I am starting to put two and two together and they are definitely looking like they are adding up to weight gain from Lexapro. I started on Lexapro in early July. I weighed in at about 178 at that time - 5'9 and worked out almost every day. While I was experiencing the start up side effects from Lexapro (about 4 weeks) I didnt work out but didnt gain any weight during that time. Anyway long story short - in the last month to 6 weeks I have put on about 12 lbs.

I take Cymbalta and it really helps me. You should just talk to a professional and see what they say. If it will help w/ the depression then you should give it a try!

Hi everyone. I saw my neurosurgeon today for follow up and he wants to start me on Elavil 10 mg at bedtime and then increase to 25 mg if needed. He said he thinks it could help my pressure headaches. Has anyone taken this medication and how was your experience on it. Thanks for the continued support.

Pat I know several people who took elavil and yes it just evened them out. U know who I ask instead of the dr?? The pharmacist. They are useful in giving good accurate information on this stuff. 5htp would be one a seratonin deficient person would respond to as far as aminos go...there r the tricyclics/like elavil/ which cover many nuerotransmitters and u can even go up to a power AD like cymbalta...starting with the safest one first is usually what drs do...but if u feel no relief then u made need to adjust..there r also some ssri's that r more efficient on anxiety///lexapro is an ssri..serotonin uptake inhibitor....paxil and zoloft seem to work better for anxiety like depression..

Nortryptaline 60 mg ( 30 mg in morning 30 at night) and 60 mg or cymbalta cured it, i was ready to commit suicide too

I have tried topamax, neurontin, lyrica, tegretol and finally they tried elavil (amitriptyline) for the pain in my legs and it seems to have helped. Apparently it works by leveling off your sleep pattern and in turn that seems to alleviate the pain. Elavil used to be used as an anti-depressant but they find it works better for pain. Personally I found that heat and massage didn't help me at all...

Cymbalta works well for fibro but did try elavil but it gave me bag insomnia. My bladder is flaring up and I'm afraid I'll need a Vic :( what do I do? I have pyridium but it's never strong enough.

I am taking Cymbalta and it helps very much. Warm baths [warm moisture]. and My husband gives me very gentle massages when I'm really hurting.

I take nortriptyline, gabapentin, Trileptal and Cymbalta. Others taken different combinations that work well for them. It is a process of trail and error though. Again, welcome and feel free to ask about anything...nothing is really off-limits unless it is disparaging to others.

She takes cymbalta for nerve damage and pain and it helps with a number of things you listed vibrations vertigo etc, is also a anti depressant and it gives you energy. She is also taking neurontin for nerve pain as well as vicodin when it gets really bad. I hope this is some use to you.
