Avatar f tn I realize this may sound strange but I was wondering if any of you have a "pill cutter" at home or do you just cut your pill in half with a knife? I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly.
1512520 tn?1290258130 That week I had an immediate and remarkable improvement in my sinuses just by cutting down to a half pill. I took my last half a pill night before last and my sinuses already feel 95% better, almost completely back to normal. I can't even believe it. I feel like I was poisoning my body with that Topamax and I'm so glad to be rid of it!
Avatar f tn I coughed myself awake this morning, which scared the heck out of me. And now my husband tells me that I've been coughing in my sleep since my NL started me on topamax. Current list of meds Topiramate (topamax) 50mg 1 tablet 2 times daily, Amitriptyline 100mg 1 tablet at bedtime, Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) 10mg 1 tablet at bedtime, and Butalbital/APAP/Caffeine (fioricet) 1 tablet to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. And my ENT has me on Diazepam 2mg 1 tablet 3 times daily.

907968 tn?1292622204 t know what the price differences are for smaller dose pills but assuming the worse that they are higher in price, and that the Dr wants me to take 1/2 the dose, would cutting the pills in half have the same effect as getting 20mg pills?
Avatar n tn s going to take me off. Its not helping my depression (though its only been a week). Topamax has been shown in studies to be helpful for bulimia. Its only been a week for me, and I have had a reduction in appetite. I don't know if any of you are bulimic, but if you are, you know that it doesn't matter if you're hungry or not, you just eat. So the topamax is helping somewhat. I'm taking 50mg at night and 25mg in the am. I'm so tired.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if I'm getting the right amound of thyroid meds, I'm on Armour and for the past 6 weeks or so I've been cutting my pills in half, taking half in the morning and half around 3 but sometimes I'm late taking them, will this mess with my levels? Also They just fall apart so I chew them, are they absorbing that way? and I'm just wondering when I get my labs done the 31 will I be lacking due to this method of taking my meds?
599945 tn?1240382354 Cutting is a way to distract from the pain of depression, it also can give an endorphin rush which makes you feel good for a little while. It's extremely important you seek immediate help. Those scars are going to be with you for life, I've seen folks with hundreds of scars, and they are so ashamed about what they did, they wear longsleeves in the summer. Stop this before it becomes seriously addicting.
689267 tn?1235241749 are you talking about the 5 mg percocet...i used to break mine in half but i don t know about 4ths...i think it would be safe....
Avatar f tn I was weaned off of a much more potent beta blocker (Coreg) by cutting it in half, then again in half. I had no problem. I used a pill cutter which did a good job of splitting the drug, but the cuts weren't perfect. I think as long as you keep some of the drug in your system, you will be just fine.
Avatar m tn Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax). The first week and a half I noticed absolutely no side effects of the Topamax. Today I have some slight hand trembling and also felt like my speech wasn't right. (Like I couldn't think of the right word). The side effects are still better than the migraines.
778037 tn?1377986200 Can increasing Topamax cause a delayed side effect? A month and a half ago, I was put on increased dosage of Topamax. However, I am now and have been for the past week experiencing "pins and needles" in my feet, legs, arms and hands. Every post I read online suggested this side effect kicked in with introduction or increase of the medication, and not a month or more later. I told my neuro's medical assistant (I needed to call anyway) and he said she would let the doc know.
Avatar n tn What dose did you start with at the beginning? My neurologist wants me to try Trokendi first at a dosage of 25mg daily. It's new but really is Topamax in an extended release form. It's suppose to give less side effects because it's suppose to be consistent in your blood stream. I'm a bit nervous cause it's a seizure medication. I'm wondering if it would be better to try 25 mg Topamax and break in half to start. I'm very sensitive to medications.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 11 and has scarring in her left temporal lobe and was started on Topamax a year and a half ago. She had had a grand mal seizure, but her main seizures consisted of a funny feeling in her stomach and dizziness. The doctor she was seeing said once she was seizure free for 2 years (she has been seizure free a year and half) she would recommend a second opinion but would like to try taking her off her Topamax. Her doctor has since left the practice and on the last appt.
237152 tn?1206651036 The pain clinic prescribed Topamax to help with my lower back pain, but I can't handle the side effects. I only took half the dose and I feel like I'm in a fog. I feel hungover and have NO energy. All I want to do is sleep, but I have a 3 year old tyrant to take care of, so Topamax won't work for me. Just had to throw that out there.
Avatar n tn My son has been taking Topamax for 6 years, one of 4 medications that he takes. Topamax prohibits sweating the body's way of cooling off. This was especially the case when he was younger. it is Very important to keep your son well hydrated for this very reason. I send my son to school with at least two 16oz bottles of water each day. if your son is outdoors in the heatplaying or at recess it is very important for him to take breaks to cool his body down.
Avatar n tn When I took topamax I had the same side effect, it gets worse in the winter with the cold weather. What I found out is that topamax depletes the potassium in your body, If you like bananas eat one a day and if you are like me you can get an otc potassium you just need 1-2 a day and I would take them depending on how my hands and feet felt. It is better to just eat a banana unstead of taking supplements but otc potassium is inexpensive.
284078 tn?1282616698 Some quick thinking sparked me to ask if she could see up close and lo and behold while she was blind as a bat in the distance, she could see the tiniest print about 6 inches in front of her nose. She had developed an acute myopic shift from a choroidal effusion which pushed the lens/iris diaphram forward.
Avatar n tn I really don't think cutting them in half is a good idea. I would assume as Carl said that they are extended release pills that protect you from the virus for 24 hours. Drink with something like a smoothie or something thick like drinkable yogurt is helpful. Call "Gilead" and ask. Its better to get the answer to that question directly from the maker. There is a phone number in the literature that came with the medication. If not... its easy to get online.
Avatar m tn I did experience a little joint pain in the elbows and wrists when I jumped to a higher dose. The pins and needle sensations came stronger and more often as well. In my feet it felt like bee stings, ouch. I did some digging online and found in the clinical trails potassium helped with the tingling so I tried that. I started out by just trying to add potassium rich foods to my diet and saw a difference on those days.
470964 tn?1240246255 i take zoloft 100mg for anxiety/depression. i also take topamax for migraines. i started at 50 mg (25 mg am & pm) . yesterday my doc increased the topamax to 75 mg (50mg am & 25 pm). i was so focused on making sure i took the right amount of topamax that i can't remember if i took my zoloft or not. i counted my pills, but i'm still not sure if i took today's dose of zoloft or not.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor if Topamax will be suitable for you. Topamax has proved to be very effective for migraine prophylaxis. Recent studies have shown that Topamax is very effective for reducing the frequency and severity of migraines. http://www.*************.com/migraine/medications/topamax.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/topamax-migraine.html Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Might want to consider checking into kidney stones...Topamax is known to cause a person to form them. I take Topamax for seizures and monitor possible side effects. Hope you get relief and find out soon. Please let us know what you are diagnosed.
