Cutting paxil in half

Common Questions and Answers about Cutting paxil in half

paxil

Avatar f tn Hi! I have never taken 20mgs of Lexapro.... I have only taken 10mgs (for about 1 month now). I was just thinking that if I can use the 20's by cutting them in half to get 10's, I can save some money now that we have no insurance. I started slowly on the Lexapro and am slowly reducing the Paxil I am taking that no longer works. Down to 4mgs of Paxil and up to 10mgs of Lexapro. Thanks!

Avatar f tn I realize this may sound strange but I was wondering if any of you have a "pill cutter" at home or do you just cut your pill in half with a knife? I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly.
382594 tn?1266610613 I take lexapro. And the 1st week or so, I was having night sweats. Some of it may have been anxiety in my sleep. But yes, AD's can def make you sweat alot. Research Paxil Sweats on google. Betchya ne thing it comes up as a side effect. =) No worrys, once you get adjusted it'll stop. And again, it could be anxiety in your sleep. Or you could just be hot? lol. Good luck. Don't "sweat" it. lol. No pun intended. lol.
Avatar n tn my doctor said we had to get a small dose back into my system before weening off it completely, so she prescribed me with 10mg of non extended-release paxil (essentially 24-hour paxil) to take everyday, then to cut that pill in half to get 5mg and then a liquid paxil to keep going down 1 mg until I'm no longer taking it.
763297 tn?1281379425 I think I understand it as...that cutting is something we have control over....if nothing least in our lives we feel the cutting is the only thing that makes sense.... Realizing what you have control...other things can help with the cutting and also guide relaxation, also tracking when you cut and when you don't...figuring out what your triggers are....can help.
Avatar f tn So I will hang out with ,5 mg for a couple weeks and then cut those in half to , .25 and take them for a week before I say goodbye. I also have reintroduece my Prozac as part ot the process. Even relatively small doses of Klonopin are tricky, but not as dangerous as other benzos.

907968 tn?1292622204 t know what the price differences are for smaller dose pills but assuming the worse that they are higher in price, and that the Dr wants me to take 1/2 the dose, would cutting the pills in half have the same effect as getting 20mg pills?
Avatar n tn I do not want to be on medication, so I started lowering my dosage from 3 a day to 2 a day every week making it less and less. I am now cutting my .5mg in half, and started taking half of the half of .5 mg in the evening. I was wondering how long are the withdrawls, and why do they feel worse then when you first started.
Avatar m tn 50 mil of Xanax and told me to make it last because she was not going to give me anymore. So far I have taken 2 pill by cutting them in half and taken only when I cannot handle it anymore. She has also prescribed Ambient for sleeping, but I am scared to take anymore drugs, is anyone out there using sleeping pills along with paxil.
1295419 tn?1276822872 Good morning-For anyone on Paxil (or any medication for anxiety) have you ever noticed small twitches in your legs? I have them which seems to have started around the same time that I started my Paxil. They aren't very noticeable but I assume I am being hyper-sensitive to all symptoms. Any input?
Avatar m tn I by no means went as accurate as a thousandth of a gram, but I was only on it a year, and it probably took a good couple of months to totally get off of it and I remained on an SSRI like Paxil. If you do it slowly, you really will minimize withdrawal side effects in my opinion, but if you know you will get a few and you are prepared for it, it made it much easier for me.
Avatar f tn I started cutting the Paxil in half so I am currently taking 10 mg of Paxil and I am on day 7. It is not really bad for me. Day 5 & 6 was uncomfortable but manageable. My biggest problem is the dizziness. I plan on taking 10mg for 2 weeks then going down to 8mg for 1 week then 6 mg for 1 week and so on. I am hoping that the issues I am having will be the only ones I have as I venture my way down. can anyone relate and anyone have the same experiences?
790561 tn?1236820146 I finally have an appointment with a neurologist Monday!!! I hope I can get some answers. At least I'm finally in and headed in the right direction. Does anyone know what I should expect my first visit????????????

Avatar f tn I was just wondering if I'm getting the right amound of thyroid meds, I'm on Armour and for the past 6 weeks or so I've been cutting my pills in half, taking half in the morning and half around 3 but sometimes I'm late taking them, will this mess with my levels? Also They just fall apart so I chew them, are they absorbing that way? and I'm just wondering when I get my labs done the 31 will I be lacking due to this method of taking my meds?
Avatar n tn I have notice that since I started taking Paxil I have gained 50 pounds and even with change in eating habits and exercise it is difficult to lose the weight. I have tried to get off Paxil only to suffer from withdrawals which are nasty. Nause, dizziness, vomiting, cold chills, shaking. Now, even when I forget to take it 1 day I experience these symptoms. Is there anything that I can take instead of this medication to help me with the OCD and how do I ease the withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I presume you're referring to Paxil (pail?)...at any rate there is a great hope to wean off klonopin. You have to do it gradually and perhaps over a longer period of time than most meds. I'd try by cutting the tablets in half and try keep your mindset that taking 1/2 is like taking one whole. Mind over matter is a powerful way to overcome things. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn After about 2 years my husband and I had come a long way in resoving our issues and I felt I probably could stop the Paxil. Yea, right! I knew not to stop cold turkey so I just cut it in half at first. Within a couple of days I felt horrid! I got these weird brain snapping sensations, vomiting, couldn't sleep, and was extremely irritable. Went back to 10 mgs and within a few hours was fine. Got no help from the Dr.
Avatar n tn You can slow down the taper and see if it helps, but the Paxil flu, as it's known, is pretty common when coming off any anti-depressant. Some say a hefty daily dose of fish oil helps, and some say when you finally quit taking some St. John's Wort can help, but most people will get some kind of withdrawal from these meds. Yours so far actually sounds fairly mild, but I would say you're probably tapering too quickly for you if cutting by half has already produced such discomfort.
Avatar n tn From my recent experience, you will make yourself VERY sick if you try and cold turkey it off of Paxil. I tapered VERY slowly, even down to cutting down on pills, and I still couldn't stand the withdrawal symptoms and have had to go back on. You are on a lower dose but you MUST taper off, it's dangerous to stop cold turkey. Paxil is an awful drug to get off of, the worst I have known.
689267 tn?1235241749 are you talking about the 5 mg percocet...i used to break mine in half but i don t know about 4ths...i think it would be safe....
17990279 tn?1462122394 If you were to find yourself gaining weight on Paxil, try watching the carbs and cutting out the sugars, before taking another pill. Also don't forget to take your probiotics.
527657 tn?1214051850 kristine is right. Paxil and all the other ssris other than Prozac have a very short half life, meaning they leave the body very quickly, some, like Paxil, in a matter of hours. That's believed to be the reason for the intense withdrawals.
Avatar f tn I was weaned off of a much more potent beta blocker (Coreg) by cutting it in half, then again in half. I had no problem. I used a pill cutter which did a good job of splitting the drug, but the cuts weren't perfect. I think as long as you keep some of the drug in your system, you will be just fine.
Avatar m tn Paxil is notoriously hard to come off for many people unfortunately. The key to minimizing the severity of the discontinuation syndrome is to taper off very slow and gradually. While you did taper, you may have went a bit too fast. You said you've been off completely for 2 days? If so, I would give your doc a call and let him/her know how you're feeling. Sometimes, the Paxil will be resumed, and a taper continued for a while. Definitely keep your doc in the loop.
