Avatar f tn I realize this may sound strange but I was wondering if any of you have a "pill cutter" at home or do you just cut your pill in half with a knife? I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly.
Avatar n tn I walk every day and when in a good routine 8 kms a day, up and down hills through fields etc. Recently I began to experience tingling in my feet and hands which I attributed to the Diovan HCt (160/25) or diabetic peripheral neuropathy since I had a high fasting glucose last year and a definitely high one this year. I've also suspected I had an allergy to gluten and not IBS as was suggested.

907968 tn?1292622204 t know what the price differences are for smaller dose pills but assuming the worse that they are higher in price, and that the Dr wants me to take 1/2 the dose, would cutting the pills in half have the same effect as getting 20mg pills?
Avatar m tn My cardiologist said I should continue the Metoprolol succ and I can stop the Diovan. I was OK for a week or so, then suddenly, I felt the same pressure in my head again and I woke up at night. My BP was 150/100 and I got scared again. In the ER, they kept me overnight and I was admitted. The doctor put me on Metoprolol Succinate (25 mg) twice a day and observed me for 4 days.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if I'm getting the right amound of thyroid meds, I'm on Armour and for the past 6 weeks or so I've been cutting my pills in half, taking half in the morning and half around 3 but sometimes I'm late taking them, will this mess with my levels? Also They just fall apart so I chew them, are they absorbing that way? and I'm just wondering when I get my labs done the 31 will I be lacking due to this method of taking my meds?
Avatar n tn Many simply split the dose in half and take half in the morning and half at night. Others take the larger dose in the morning and a smaller dose at night so as not to run into night-time hypoglycemic risks. The Lantus insuln lasts for ALMOST 24 hours, but does sort of peter out after about 20 hours. So a slightly elevated morning glucose number may be the result of its giving out a few hours before you awaken if you take your main dose every morning.
689267 tn?1235241749 are you talking about the 5 mg percocet...i used to break mine in half but i don t know about 4ths...i think it would be safe....
Avatar f tn my dad had a triple bypass last apr 21. last saturday, jul 4/2009 he started on diovan 160/12.5 (from corvesy+) and since Sat he's been experiencing chest pains that is not going away. is this a side effect? is he allergic to the this new med he's taking or is this angina? should he get himself to an ER?
Avatar f tn I was weaned off of a much more potent beta blocker (Coreg) by cutting it in half, then again in half. I had no problem. I used a pill cutter which did a good job of splitting the drug, but the cuts weren't perfect. I think as long as you keep some of the drug in your system, you will be just fine.
Avatar f tn I have a fasting blood glucose level of 101 and 102 for several years now and have been taking diovan hct and excedrin. I know these drugs have the ability to raise blood sugar readings. Should I be concerned about these readings? If I get off these drugs will my levels return to normal?
10483820 tn?1410466172 2/ 30mg @ night with 320 mg Diovan; and 1/ 30mg Imdur with 200mg Toprol in the morning. I have a 45 year history of valvular heart desease having had 4 open heart surgeries starting at age 28. Resulting in 2 mechanical valves and a pacemaker. Believe me, I am not complaining and feel pretty good. Of course I am on Coumidin so not worried about a stroke but more concerned about damage to kidneys and heart with such elevated blood pressure.
Avatar n tn delamp, I can only speak to Plavix and Lipitor 80mg. I've been on both of them for over four years with no worries. I also take Atenolol, Imdur, Lisinopril, Aspirin and several other non-heart related drugs spanning the same time frame.I was told that I would be on both the Plavix and Lipitor as well as the others for the rest of my life. This comes from top cardiologists in Boston.
Avatar f tn I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.

Avatar f tn My question is could this be the result of the CVID? My PP reduced my Diovan HCL 160 to Diovan 80 to see if that was the problem. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn I really don't think cutting them in half is a good idea. I would assume as Carl said that they are extended release pills that protect you from the virus for 24 hours. Drink with something like a smoothie or something thick like drinkable yogurt is helpful. Call "Gilead" and ask. Its better to get the answer to that question directly from the maker. There is a phone number in the literature that came with the medication. If not... its easy to get online.
343006 tn?1314446471 I think you should find a new doctor. Most BP meds cause nasty side-effects such as allergies, nasal congestion, sneezing, itching eyes and nose, at least for me. I had to get off ACE, ARB, and alpha blockers. I am now on beta blocker Bystolic. Tired and slower heart rate. Some allergic reaction but not as bad as Diovan, Norvasc, Altace, Exforge, Cardura. I don't know much about CCB;s in general. I empathise with you and wish you the best.
378273 tn?1262097621 Both Diovan and Metopropolol can elevate liver enyzmes. The normal range for AST=SGOT, ALT=SGPT are 10 - 42. This is the range my doctor uses. Your just barely above the high end normal number. This is most likely due to your medicine, I would not be concerned with this small elevation. Just make sure you have liver test done periodically, to monitor any changes.
Avatar f tn Hi Shazzy - the best way to quit any opiate, including dihydrocodeine is to taper slowly. Try cutting a tablet in half and taking 1.5 tabs instead of 2. Then try going longer inbetween your dose so you are only taking two doses per day, then try and reduce that to just one pill per dose. Then try and cut down to 1/2 pill and see if you an go all day by just taking one - move down the dose every few days.
599945 tn?1240382354 Cutting is a way to distract from the pain of depression, it also can give an endorphin rush which makes you feel good for a little while. It's extremely important you seek immediate help. Those scars are going to be with you for life, I've seen folks with hundreds of scars, and they are so ashamed about what they did, they wear longsleeves in the summer. Stop this before it becomes seriously addicting.
