Cut chantix in half

Common Questions and Answers about Cut chantix in half

chantix

I have taken it twice now, The dose is for one body type fits all so I cut the pills in half drink LOTS of water at least some food and take gas x for bloting, which gets better. I did not get the vivid dreams some have but I did not take the full dose I stopped smoking without trying by week 3 it was amazing. Unfortunatly I got so sleepy not sure if it was the chantix heard others said it was I had to go off it and yeap right back at smoking.
I just started taking Chantix yesterday. I have heard lots of great things about this medication and how much it helps, but I've also heard lots of scary things - bad dreams, depression, suicidal/homicidal thoughts, hallucinations. Obviously, I chose to ignore all those things and take it anyway b/c I know me and I know that I need something pretty powerful to help me quit. I also quit taking pain pills four days ago.
I always make sure I have a full stomach before I take the Chantix so I dont get nauseated.
I am now on day number 8 of taking Chantix - still smoking but have cut back. Yesterday, I started the 1 mg twice per day dose and within an hour of my a.m. dose, started itching like crazy. Benedryl gives some relief. It continued throughout the night and this morning. I do not have hives, difficulty breathing or anything like that - just itching that is driving me crazy. Anyone else had this problem with chantix?
I am on day #5 on Chantix. For the past two days, I have gotten headaches within an hour of taking it in the a.m. Has anyone else experienced this? Does this side effect eventually go away?
I took the Chantix for a month and a half and had no leg cramps or nausea, but the last week I felt bloated and had some gas. It was my choice to stop the Chantix and hindsight I should probably have continued for the recommended 3 months. It wasn't covered at all by my insurance so paying $112. (X3) for something that had no guarantees, seemed a little costly.
I have seen many posts talking about Chantix and smoking. Many of you have complained about the nausea associated with this drug to quit smoking. When I first started the drug, nausea and headaches were my constant companions. I finally talked to the doctor about the nausea...she said that I should be SURE to take it with food and plenty of water...then she said I could take Phenergan to offset the nausea. That combination WORKED.
My experience with Chantix was pretty good but I stopped taking Chantix after my third quit day. All total, a month and a half, and I didn't look back. It is 4 months today and I had some severe reactions to my quit....2 sinus infections, pneumonia & pleurisy. I have never been sick like that but I am told that it is coincidental and has nothing to do with my quit.....hmm.......
But I was posting about this feeling I am getting in the afternoon with the shakes, I read the chantix and that does happen sometimes but I think it is more likely the oxy I think I should maybe cut the pill in half and take ten in the am and ten in the afternoon, but I don't want to self medicate because it has worked so will with my Dr's help in getting me from the high dose I was on to one pill a day. also I don't think that a 1/2 of pill would stop the migrain in the morning.
My doc thinks that fatigue is related to the very end of my wean and not the smoking. She recommended that I cut my Chantix dose in half, if it continues. So yes i am working very closely with my doc. Thanks for the kudos, the Chantix has really helped me , knock on wood.
I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back. Seriously try the chantix...it's about $130 prescription, but that's probably cheaper than a months' worth of cigarettes.
The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum…. Does anyone here have any good ideas for getting off the darn gum now? I know there is no EZ way out, but any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
You smoke for the first 7 days on Chantix, cutting back. Then 8th day quit. It really does work, but be prepared for some horrible dreams.I have been visited by my deceased monther, my ex-husband, lost my work car, wrecked my work car....if you can thiink it up, I've probably dreamed it in the past 7 weeks! But it's worth it! Keep us posted!.And I'll take that last beer please!.
I smoked for 38 years and I decided to give Chantix a try. So many people were singing its praises. Well, its been 1 year and 1 month since I put that last smoke to my mouth. Given your other problems you might want to try the patch. If you can, cold turkey is probably the best way. The physical withdrawals only last 3 days. I used the patch. But the biggest help for me was cutting straws in half! The patch takes away your craving, but, what to do with your hands and mouth!!!! I would chew the heck out of those straws. I had a pile in my car, next to the computer...everywhere. I chewed straws for a year. I also lost 20 pounds! I took a long walk after every meal, because that is when I wanted a cig the worse. Good luck to all. It CAN be done!!!
Here's a trick for cutting down on cigarettes as a beginning to quitting. Smokers often pick up a cigarette with thinking because they are in sight. Place your pack in another room in a drawer. (I had put mine in the dining room breakfront.) If you do that, you will only smoke when you actually want to. You will find that, in very short order, and with no feeling of deprivation, you will have cut back by almost half.
Don't even get me started. I went on Chantix about a month and a half ago. I got so deathly sick to my stomach...it was horrible. So I got some liquid nausea medicine from the drugstore. I found myself getting up in the morning, drinking the medicine so I could take a pill so I could quit smoking! It was such old behavior and it scared the bejesus out of me, so I stopped. Now I am back to square one and smoking more than ever. I wish I had an answer for you--I wish I had an answer for ME!!!
I am one week into the Chantix. I have cut my smoking in half and am gearing up for the quitting all together. I can do this!
I smoked throughout tx, but bought 'roles' instead of taylormade and rolled smaller cigarettes and cut them in half. This way, I'd cut down smoking, but felt I could have one whenever I needed one.
I stopped smoking 1 year ago today with the help of Chantix. I had to always eat before taking because they will cause nausea. I also got a bought with pnemonia the 2nd week into the process. Despite everything I am so much happier, healthier and fatter. I am a 46 year women and have gained 30 lbs. I am not sure if this could be pre menopause or not smoking. But now I can walk around with out my legs feeling like they are on fire. I can bend over without getting dizzy.
Well the asprin thing has kinda worried me and I have been trying to quit smoking again. I went a couple of days without and when I get a craving that will not let go I will smoke a half of cig. Now my problem is when I smoke my heart starts to race and it brings on an attack. Has anyone else have this when trying to quit or anxiety just for smoking period? Any suggestions would be appreciated. My husband thinks I am just going nuts.
So, that did not work for me. Now, recently I am going outside to smoke. And I have now cut my smoking in half. But, to quit smoking is the absolute best thing a person with COPD can do for themselves. Plus, as Teko suggested, your father needs to stay active as possible. Helps to build up the lungs etc. I too noticed the shortness of breath quite awhile before the diagnosis of COPD. I am not who I once was I will admit. But, I am still up and functioning in many ways.
Good luck this time, I too am in the quitting process. I started last Tuesday cutting down on smoking from 1 pack a day to a half then only 7 on Wednesday and put the patch on Thusday morning. So far so good. I can not go cold turkey! Today is day 4 for me smoke free. The patches really do help, but there will be times when you will crave a butt. Im still having a hard time with that. But today I seemed to handle it better than I did yesterday.
I go to my doctor on Monday and she may prescribe me the Chantix.. (As if I need any medication.. dangit! But, good thing is, it's not habit forming! :D) I definitely don't want to take something that has nicotine in it, that's for sure.. one of the main reasons I'm quitting smoking! I spoke with an RN from the American Lung Association today, and know what she told me? "That's why we don't recommend cold turkey smoking cessation, it causes relapse all too often" I'm like.. 'WHAT??
Hopefully the next one will be better, I just wanted to drop you a note about the Chantix. I took it about a year and a half ago. It did work very well but I had horrible side effects from it after only a few weeks of taking it. It also has ALOT of neurological side effects. It even has MS listed as a rare side effect. I think what it does in some people is it brings out the MS symptoms. I just wanted to give you heads up. I hope it works wekk for you without any problems.
I had a couple biopsy's and couldn't get a reading so I waited a year and half and decided to have it removed. I am happy that I did I can tell the difference already. I had no problems with surgery and I am healing nicely. The staples came out today. I had staples as I have reactions to adhesive tape. As of now my thyroid is not working and my Dr. said it could take up to 2 months for it start working and it may never start working. Then it is meds.
Well, James it is time to quit for all and forever, say for yourself from now no cigarettes, save ur lungs and ur life it is never to late to stop smoking! do not cut cigarettes just stop straight away. He gave me an idea. figure out how many you smoke in a day. cut that in half for the next week. If you need one more then smoke one more. he said it will probable take me about a month to stop. Triggers, thanks for the great info. Also set a scheduled time everyday to smoke.
) Speaking from my personal experience.......I used Chantix for a month and a half though it is recommended for 3 months. I was a smoker for 38 years and I had never, ever quit before! I quit because I had promised myself at age 50 I would get back into shape.....joined the gym but didn't quit until 52. I found it difficult to use some of the cardio machines....
