Common Questions and Answers about Cross country fainting while running race

fainting

Avatar n tn ve noticed that there are many newly diagnosed Type 1 Youths that are engaging in the sport of Cross Country running. This is wonderful because it must be the hardest sport to regular blood glucose (bg) for. This says a lot about our kids. My daughter is 16 yrs old and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last August just before the beginning of her first year of cross country. She's always excelled in sports especially those that require a lot of running and tough training.
Avatar n tn After talking with the doctor, we decided that cross country was just too much for her. Non-competitive running seems to not be a problem, but the competition and the adrenaline is a problem. She runs track - since the races don't seem to bother her the way the cross country meets do. I understand what you are going through. I read your post and thought I had wrote it last year.
Avatar f tn My daughter was running in a cross country meet after having a cold all week and taking cold medicine. During the race her pupils became extremely small; she was not sweating; hands and feet numb and white, and her heart rate was really high. She had to stop. Does it mean oxygen deprivation? Did the cold meds do this? The pupils are what really scared me.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnosed about 4 weeks ago with type 1 diabetes and now is in the midst of cross country running season. Our difficulties are resulting from the early morning runs which she finds difficult after eating. She seems to get "stitches" fairly often. Also, if she has a particularly vigorous run, she often will get hypo episodes mid-morning before (or sometimes after) her snack.
Avatar n tn I am 18 years old and have been running Track and Cross Country for 5 years. I noticed that when I run hard such as when I do a workout or run a race I gag violently. It always happens when I finish and usually also happens in the middle of my run. It started with my very first race in 7th grade and has never gone away or even diminished slightly. It is very painful and often slows down my running while in the process but I have never thrown up or felt sick.
Avatar f tn My high school senior is a cross country racer. They run 5-8 miles a day. Only after a race he has symptoms of being pale, nauseated, headache 45 minutes after his race. By then the other runners are back to normal. He had me check his pulse 30 minutes after his race and it was going so fast you couldn't count it. He decided to lay down and in 2-3 minutes I checked his pulse again and could feel it was 100-110 beats/minute. The paramedics came. His blood pressure was fine.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if you have found out anything about your pelvic pain while running. My daughter is 17 and has started feeling this same pain. She runs cross-country, plays basketball and runs track. Never had any problems until the last few weeks. The pain is so severe, it brings her to her knees. We have spoke with her doctor and he is not sure what the problem is. Just wondering if anyone might have an idea. Thanks.
Avatar f tn and started training on November 2017, everything was going fine until my first SVT while running on 25 March 2018, I was about to cross the 10k when suddenly I felt something on my chest, lack of strength and air, some pain, I couldn't bread no more, I felt like I was going to collapse right there...
Avatar f tn Having arrhythmias during this type of exercise is different from having arrhythmias while jogging or running. PVCs usually stay away or at least reduce in amount during aerobic exercise. PACs and supraventricular arrhythmias are far more likely to happen both with aerobic exercise and adrenaline rush. Some skipped beats is something everyone may experience after stress/exercise/adrenaline rush, but your fainting is concerning.
193609 tn?1292180293 Let me tell you a little story- in college I ran cross country- Drexel had a track team and they had some great sprinters on scholarship for track- well, my 2nd or 3rd year they cut the track program- so there was this guy who came over to run cross country- he was about 6'5", tall, muscular, lean, black man- beautiful runner- perfect runners body- for a sprinter... he could kill anyone on a track- he COULD NOT RUN DISTANCE! it was so funny!
Avatar f tn I am a cross country runner ...I have notice that when I run my left knee hurts when I sprint. Keep in mind it is hot outside and now my legs are shaking non stop ,please help.
Avatar f tn I did some exams, stress test, 24h holter, echocardiogram, ECG (bradycardia), and they all checked normal, but I this week I started running again, I went for a 10k run 2 days ago, everything checked ok, while this morning I was running while my wife was ridding her bike, I had done like just 3k when suddenly there was the hit on the chest, the lack of air, and some dizziness, but mutch more weaker than the previous experience...
Avatar n tn I am the mother of a newly diagnosed (1 week ago) 17 year old son with type 1 diabetes. He is a distance runner in school both cross country(5K) and 1600 m in track and field. We need some suggestion on how to procede with training; ie, eating before and after practice and actual meets, will he need to inject insulin before a meet? Any information will be helpful. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Last April, I ran a 5 mile race in just under 36 minutes. The following day my heart rate was 37 to 39 BPM for a large portion of the day and I felt like I was oxygen deprived at times. I also have low iron levels which probably contributed to this problem. By day 2 after the race, the Bradycardia was gone. In May 2008, I ran a 20K at an 8:04 pace and in August 2008, I ran a half marathon at a 7:44 pace and experienced similar symptoms but not as severe as when I ran the 5 mile race.
973741 tn?1342342773 m no expert on fast running, but I am an expert on running while anemic, apparently. Last December I found out that I've probably been anemic for at least a portion of every month for the last few years (which probably started by having hypothyroidism which can cause very heavy and prolonged "cycles", but in December and January, I learned I have a large fibroid that really has exacerbated the whole losing iron thing to unimaginable levels.
1530342 tn?1405016490 I've never heard of such a thing. I ran track & cross-country at a state-level, when I was in high-school, and it was "every man for himself" (back then, anyway). As Tako said, a totally selfless act. In the same situation, I probably would have just run around the guy, finished the race, THEN gone back to help them!
1310633 tn?1430224091 Washington (CNN) -- Race relations in the United States have "certainly gotten better," despite widely-varying opinions on the criminal justice system's fairness, incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday. In an interview with CNN's Dana Bash, the Kentucky Republican called pointed to South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican, who in November became the first black senator elected in the South since Reconstruction.
Avatar f tn i am also a runner and have been running since 77. i am in love with the feeling of running and don t know any other way to get to that "place" BUT i agree with moose on this one every line that he wrote. if i were you i would get my levels in the best place and start looking forward to next year. i ran endurance for many years and now i am very happy running just a few miles with lifting and yoga. many times i ran too far and too long and didn t pay attention to feeling bad.
Avatar f tn I was training for a half marathon when I found out I was pregnant about a month ago. I gave up all training because the first few weeks I had major fatigue and cramps. Now I am feeling better and the race is Saturday. I was debating on jog/walking it. I've been reading mixed opinions on running that distance during the first trimester. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Most likely your cardiologist will be able to assess what type of testing will be most useful. They may also have you do holter monitoring while running a race to trigger the symptoms to try to elucidate the underlying medical issue that way, though I would think much more information could be gathered with the testing I described first.
Avatar f tn On 2/7/14 she was a volunteer at the Red Cross blood drive at school, and upon watching her older sister donate blood, she became faint and had to lay down. She did not lose consciousness; just was weak and lightheaded. Two days after that episode, she fainted during cheer practice. This has now been occuring approximately every 2 days only while she's at school. She's had 2 EKG's (normal), bloodwork normal, EEG just done, waiting on results.
Avatar f tn hi i have been running, cross country last fall winter running, track. Know it is summer and i took a little break and i have started running again but everytime i run i get a really bad pain in my left side low like almost by my hip but it isn't. sometimes it goes away or not. last time i went for a run i was planning on running 8 miles and i started to walk at a mile and a half because of my really bad pain. When i was walking the pain still didn't go away.
Avatar n tn My Daughter is 17 & runs Cross County for her high school. She has developed a knot under her rib cage when she runs & it does not go away until Cross Country season is over. It hurts & sometime she has trouble breathing because the pain is so bad. We mentioned it to her Doctor last year & he said it may be a pulled muscle. Is there anything she can do to make the knot & the pain go away?
Avatar f tn Hi, I am in my 20s. About this time last year, I started exercising twice a week, while overtime increasing the intensity of my exercises. I didn't start running as part of my exercise routine until 5 months ago. I can now run 3/4 of a mile. I am in my 2ww hoping that I may be pregnant. Is is a good idea for me to continue to run when I could be pregnant? Or should I reduce the intensity of my workout routine during my 2ww just in case?
