Crestor vs lipitor hdl

Common Questions and Answers about Crestor vs lipitor hdl

crestor

Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar n tn The statins you listed all have been beneficial in reducing cholesterol. Studies tend to show that Crestor and Lipitor work more effectively but responses can vary with individual patients. Once you start your medication, your physician will check the levels again and can readjust the medication. Crestor has been shown to increase HDL in some patients but not all. Get your lab work retested after starting to see if there needs to be further adjustments made.
Avatar n tn 70 and if you are only on 5 mg of Lipitor the first thing I would do is to increase the Lipitor dose to 40 mg daily. Crestor is stronger mg for mg as compared to Lipitor but there is no data that suggests it is better.
Avatar n tn ve been on niaspam and my dr. thinks I should change to lipitor because of the new drug studies on lipitor. I am a perfect weight, and i'm 63 with no incidents of heart attack but my arteries do show significant arterilosclerosis. I feel healthy and seem great so far! any advice appreciated.
Avatar f tn hi! My Dr put me on Crestor, 40 mg once a day for high cholesterol and coronary plaque buildup..... Today is my 4th day taking it. Ive seen the commercials...and Ive researched online...It seems ok...Ive tolerated Lipitor in the past with absolutly NO side effects. I just noticed today that i seem to be sore...in my shoulder and neck.... as when I would shrug my shoulders...the muscles there seem sore when I do that. Now, maybe I did something...? Sat the wrong way, slept the wrong way...
Avatar f tn You should try to have your LDL under 100 with 79 being better. HDL over 60 is pretty good. Crestor lowers LDL and raises HDL. Some people do not need to take the full strength Statin and can take a small amount and still show benefits. My dad takes only a chip of his Lipitor and his cholesterol stays down low. A lot of doctors themselves are taking a small amount of a statin to prevent heart disease even if they have normal cholesterol levels.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
907968 tn?1292622204 Crestor is the most powerful statin to date, much stronger than Lipitor which is very strong. The starting dosage recommended for severe artery disease with crestor is 10mg, which lowers c-ldl by a whopping 46-52%. This is a lot, and most people don't need this much of a reduction, certainly that much of the powerful drug. You can get 5mg, but this is the lowest. It has been shown that 2.5mg lowers c-ldl by 40% and 1mg by 34%.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn now he wants to try Crestor.....Are statins good for raising HDL?...If one can keep their LDL down low enough say under 80, is HDL still significant?....Except for HDL, my other numbers are good...I'm non-smoker, & ideal weight, & active..... Also, we sometimes do a cardio CRP test (most of the time it's just the lipid profile)....I've had about 6 crp tests done since 2003 - results have been typically been between .03 - .07......
Avatar m tn My recent test result for LDL level is 2.31 and HDL level is 1.59. I am taking Lipitor 20MG for the last 6 years. Recently, my doctor advice me to stop taking Lipitor for 2 months and after that he will see my Cholestorel level result and will advice further medication. I am little scared if I stop taking Lipitor, does it will occur any heart attack or blockage in arteriy or any other risk for me.
Avatar m tn A study was done on 2 groups of patients one with high HDL, the other low HDL and they had the same degree of coronary disease. The current metric seems to be getting the total <150 and the LDL < 80-100. Don't worry about the HDL, just focus on the total and LDL. Yuo might also consider a plant based diet as it has been proven very effective at lowering cholesterol. I've been on this for one year and saw remarkeable changes in my BP.
Avatar f tn Yeah Robs on Crestor..Lipitor didnt agree with him. Costs him $34!
1463256 tn?1286028981 Lipitor is one of the stronger statin drugs and is commonly used to reduce high levels of serum LDL. Lipitor has also been shown to have a minimal effect on raising HDL as well, but is primarily prescribed to individuals with high levels of LDL (over 130) or high total cholesterol (over 200) or people that have several risk factors for CAD along with high cholesterol levels. Lipitor is commonly prescribed to patients after heart surgery or stenting as well.
Avatar f tn Fenofibrates in my experience do have side effects especially if prescribed together with Statins ( Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor are some of the brand name statins). Check drugs.com for drug side effects and interactions.
Avatar f tn p.s., the metabolic disorder would also explain the neuropathy.
Avatar m tn I did try all the common statins in increasing introductory dosages from 5-20mg like lescol, pravachol, lipitor, crestor, red yeast rice, high dose EFA nutraceutical and one other I can't remember over a 10 year period. The memory loss is not responsive to CoQ10 and that was the most serious side affect. I'm told now, that I should never take more statins because very little is apparently known about the rare side affect and much more severe reactions are possible.
Avatar m tn It has been studied as noted by the excerpt from the NIH below. There has been a small plaque regression with LDL levels below 70, increased HDL, statin therapy and aerobic exercise; "BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of lifestyle modification, mainly daily aerobic exercise, on coronary atherosclerosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Avatar n tn I have taken lipitor and crestor in the past and it didn't really agree with me. My cholseterol is 274 with really good hdl 65 and triglycerides of 83.
