There are a number of reasons to have leg cramps and different types of leg cramps. I dont think the development of cramps in the legs would have any relationship to stents in the blood vessels of the heart. If there is any relationship beyond coincidence, perhaps it is that medications like diuretics to treat hypertension and heart disease can cause dehydration and electrolyte disturbances which can predispose one to night time cramps.
About 6 months ago, almost nightly I began having recurring painful feet, or leg cramps, for which my doctor prescribed 100 MG of Gabapentin daily at bedtime. It hasn't helped and also, the warning sheet for side effects was scary. When I got my annual bloodwork done in May, my FREE T4 was high at 1.21. My doctor lowered my Synthroid dosage from 75 to 50 MCG.
Typically, the normal muscle pains will be gone in a day or two. The more severe side effects can last longer. Are you sure the side effects were from the statin as the listed side effects are very common to many conditions. In studies, just as many on the placebo control group reported side effects as the statin control group, about 1 in 2,221.

I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
I don't know if these are symptoms of a condition or side effects of some of my meds, so can someone help?
I take Norvasc, Altace, Lexapro, Crestor, AndroGel, Doxycycline Hyclate, and Advair 250/50. I have been on the first 4 for years. The last 3 have been added within the last several months. I also have Severe Sleep Apnea, but I use my APAP religiously. AHI is usually <4, but will on ocassion sneak up to 5.
Spinal Stenosis in the lower lumbar area. As well, he had been taken Crestor and diagnosed with Statin myopathy 1 year ago as a result of very high CK levels. He was taken off the Crestor immediately .. put on another drug which is not a statin. One year has passed and he still has high CK levels and very severe and weak legs. He tries to exercise but can't do it for long. Calf muscles jump all the time and are tender. He can't walk around the block.
Crestor is to control cholesterol, have more offen side effects but doses of 10 mg are the lowest , and side effects can be abdominal pain (not chest). So is better to talk to the doctor about this side effects. She is very well medicated but allergic reactions can happen. TALK TO TE DOCTOR is all I can tell.
Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor:

The free clinic I go has switched me from Crestor to Lipitor even though my LDL is very high. It's a thorn in my side and won't budge even with Crestor. The cardiologist was even talking about adding another medicine to fight it.
When I mentioned this to the clinic they told me every couple of years they switch drugs. So basically they can't afford to care about exceptions.
Recently found magnesium helpful in curing severe leg cramps. Of course I know my low potassium could add to the leg pain. Best to consult with you doctor first.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and after my lumpectomy and radiation, my oncologist started me on Tamoxifen. Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible.
s more of which one your body will tolerate the best. Different brands seem to show different side effects in many people. Lipitor in some women have produced breast pains or enlargement and even the manufacturers cannot explain that one. Still, I suppose it's cheaper than plastic surgery. Some statins cause abdominal pains in some people, or nausea or serious muscle cramps and even damage.
s not a bad thing...it just is...talk to your Dr about the side effects of Trilipix or google it...and discuss with him/her about oral meds along with diet & exercise...I have type 2 as well and I started on oral meds about 5 yrs after diagnosis...now 27 yrs later I am on oral and insulin and my blood sugars are fantastic!!

ve stayed with it the longest. My question is regarding the side effects. Occasionally I will notice an internal restless feeling -- usually lasts a few days. It's almost like I feel kind of antsy. My sleep is not disturbed -- I sleep normal as usual. I've also noticed, and have in the past, that I have some twitches. Various muscles in my body will twitch from time to time.
