Avatar n tn I am a 56 years old post-menopause woman and had never have thyroid and gout problem before. However, the uric acid and tsh level were just getting higher and higher every year for the past 2 years. I am afraid if I don't get any treatment now, it may later develop gout and other symptoms. What type of treatment should I have now ? Should I take thyroid treatment first before taking any like crestor for cholesterol or medication for uric acid ? please advise. Thanks !!!

907968 tn?1292622204 I'm on a 30 day trial offer from Crestor (20mg) to replace my Simvastatin (20mg). I'm sure I know the answer to this question but hearing other opinions would be welcomed... As I understand it, Crestor is a bit stronger than Simvastatn, or should I say, You can take a smaller dose of Crestor to equal Simvatstatin. Other than the equivalent dose change is there any other differences - side effects I should be looking for?
Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.

Avatar f tn ) Asparagus has been on the list for ages, as has shellfish, small oily fish such as sardines and anchovy, organ meat, turkey and red meat. Alcohol is also a no-no. According to the gout website, only 5% of all gout sufferers are women. The test to determine which type you have is to aspirate the fluid from the affected joint during an outbreak. You may not feel this is necessary since the medication is the same for both but the diets are different.
