Crestor and muscle pain

Common Questions and Answers about Crestor and muscle pain

crestor

Avatar n tn I have also had tingling in my fingers and toes. I get tired very easily. I was on Crestor and my husband told me to stop taking it. I am really worried. Can you help?
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Avatar n tn Remember that these drugs [statins] are often associated with side-effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10.
Avatar n tn In January (when this latest blood work came in) it showed that my cholesterol was a bit elevated, so my doctor put me on Crestor. I took for only two months and started having severe muscle pain in my legs and arms. I stopped taking it immediately. I might also add that I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis about three years ago. I was also diagnosed with IBS-Constipation prevalent roughly four years ago.
Avatar f tn m on Crestor 5 mg for 4 days now. It is the second attempt trial. The statins always give me muscle pain. This muscle pain occurred in my heart so it looks like "heart attack". One side of my head and neck is in pain now. Not very very pain but very uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn 1) In studies comparing equal doses of Crestor to Lipitor, Crestor has been shown to lower LDL levels ~10% and increase HDL levels 2-4% more than Lipitor. Your triglyerides, total cholesterol, and LDL's are in the optimal range, and your HDL level is in the middle. Based on these numbers, there doesn't seem to be a need to switch to Crestor. 2) There is little evidence on the use of EPA alone.
Avatar n tn Thank you. A bit confused as now 5 mg is my dose, and you said 40? Not 10???????? Maybe Japanese doses are lower?????? And already at 40 my CK is way over normal at 291. So wouldn't that risk problems with muscle pain. Also, you did not mention about the CoQ 10, which is disappointing.
Avatar n tn I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs. Has anyone experienced difficulties with this? Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn It may be more likely that the Crestor is causing the joint and muscle pain. However I am not a doctor and therefore cannot analyze your disease states or conditions remotely. Best of luck to you. Jennifer R RPh www.drugstore.
Avatar m tn Are you sure your muscle pain is related to the statin use? Muscle pains are the most common complaint and has many, many causes. In any case, there is no danger in stopping Crestor suddenly, but discuss it with your doctor. I would have a couple questions for your doctor. First off, why does he have a target of an LDL under 100? That is normally the recommendation for people at high risk of heart disease or those that already have heart disease.
Avatar f tn Speaking from my experience...having been on Lipitor for a long time and then resulting muscle and connective tissue deterioration which comes from statins, having minimal plaque after an Angiogram, was advised to take Crestor, in case I had a problem later in life...yeah sure!! I would only take statins now if there was no other choice and it was necessary. But research 'side effects' of both Crestor and Verapamil.
Avatar f tn For more info on crestor and help and advice on hair loss and treatments. Please try www.livestrong.com on here u will find a search bar on top right of page type in crestor or hair loss and u will be directed to different pages . Thanks and hope you get sorted quickly.
Avatar n tn I said that though my CK is elevated I have NO muscle pain. I do not see anything here or in the cardilogy forum that indicates research shows COQ 10 is needed UNLESS there are side effects. So why do you recommend them? I appreciate your offer to read your book, but I would hope that your professional opinion could be explained without my having to buy a book. That is why I paid the fee to get an answer. In addition, a heart forum on about.
Avatar m tn I would need to know what side effects and how long you were on the drugs. Typically, the normal muscle pains will be gone in a day or two. The more severe side effects can last longer. Are you sure the side effects were from the statin as the listed side effects are very common to many conditions. In studies, just as many on the placebo control group reported side effects as the statin control group, about 1 in 2,221. Let us know.
1277632 tn?1327594715 Some cholesterol medication can cause muscle weakness or pain. Talk to your doctor mayb he can try a different kind of medicine they are quite a few for cholesterol. Also the pain below the rib cage can be a number of things. I would also bring that up to the doctor.
Avatar n tn However, there is also the risk of liver inflammation due to the medicine Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and it is conceivable that there could be an additive effect of Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and INH. In addition, niacin may increase the risk of muscle disease called myopathy when used with Crestor® (rosuvastatin). Crestor® (rosuvastatin) significantly increases the INR (enhances the effect of Coumadin to make your blood “thinner” than it would be alone.
Avatar f tn Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity. Myopathy manifested as muscle pain and/or weakness associated with grossly elevated creatine kinase exceeding ten times the upper limit of normal has been reported occasionally. Rhabdomyolysis has also occurred rarely, which may be accompanied by acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria and may result in death.

200220 tn?1361951554 t attribute the muscle pain and back pain I was having to it. It has mostly stopped also. I do have leg cramps but they were worse on the Crestor. I am going to get some Magnesium that was suggested by someone else. I wonder if I am converting the t4 to t3 correctly. If I post my last blood test that had the t3free test on it could you tell by that. The holistic MD that I went to did that test. I will be glad to find out what is causing the swelling though.
Avatar m tn Neuropathy is evaluated for based on thorough examination and history, with ancillary testing as appropriate. Crestor can also lead to muscle aches, and this would be supported by an elevated creatine kinase on blood testing. Drug-induced lupus is diagnosed based on specific laboratory critera; a positive ANA alone is not diagnostic of DILE. But if the diagnosis has been confirmed, DILE can lead to a variety of symptoms as you know, and many of your symptoms do not sound neurologic in origin.
Avatar n tn My father needs to lower his cholesterol, but Statins cause him significant muscle problems (Myositis) and elevated Creatine Kinase CPK and Aldalase. His symptoms resolve and tests return to normal when the Statins are discontinued. What Cholesterol drugs can he try that do not have Myositis as a side effect?
Avatar n tn put on another drug which is not a statin. One year has passed and he still has high CK levels and very severe and weak legs. He tries to exercise but can't do it for long. Calf muscles jump all the time and are tender. He can't walk around the block. He gets cramps in his legs at night as well. What can we do to help this condition? Are there drugs or natural supplements to help build up the damage muscles? What exactly do you think my husband's condition is?
Avatar f tn Because of the advice I received on here, I and my husband stopped taking ours, and our muscle pain has disappeared. My husband could barely walk due to leg pain, could not exercise due to muscle weakness, and now this is gone. So, I did my own research and was shocked to learn about statins and all the problems they cause. Our doctors have approved of us stopping these, so we did the right thing.
Avatar n tn Some side effects of Crestor are: unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; fever, unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine; swelling, weight gain, urinating less than usual or not at all; or nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
