Dehydration is the commonest cause of dry cracked lips. Drink plenty of water and see. The other possibility is iron and Vit B deficiency. A lip balm preferably petroleum jelly, Vit B supplements, iron, and honey should help. They can also be caused by allergies and infections. You could either be suffering from contact dermatitis or from allergy to some food. You should get an allergy test done, either a skin test or RAST, to know what you are allergic to.
is that i don't have any sores or anything on my penis, do have like white bumps where the hair is but it looks just like when you pull the hair on your arm up..no rash or irratation at all...but my lips have chapped bad and the top one was red for about a week and now my bottom one is cracked bad..in about 4 different spots.and on the inside where the top and bottom meet there's little white bumps under the skin..what is it??
I noticed he has very chapped almost cracked lips...he's coming from puerto Rico's warm climate to ny cold weather....don't know if that has something to do with it or if its herpes.anyways my 3 year old boy took my friends lip balm and put some on! I think it was around two hours after my friend had put some on...don't know if that makes a difference. But extremely worried for my kid...
If you peel this dry skin, the healing process starts all over again with dry skin on your lip. Dehydration is the commonest cause of dry cracked lips. Drink plenty of water and see. The other possibility is iron and Vit B deficiency. Along with multivitamin B (not a multivitamin which also has other vitamins) take an iron preparation and see. They can also be caused by allergies and infections. You could either be suffering from contact dermatitis or from allergy to some food.
Alright, well, first off, since I was a child, I've been getting cracked lips on the corners of my mouth on rare occasions. I'm now 17 years old, and I still get them every once in awhile during the cold weather, or if I don't get enough hydration, but since I've been drinking lots of water, these cracked lips haven't appeared in a long time. Well, at least until recently.
licking your lips, which is common when they are dry and irritated, but that tends to irritate the lips even more. When the corners of the lips are cracked, bacteria and yeast that are normally present in the mouth can get into those cracks when there is some dripping of saliva at nighttime and cause more inflammation.
I woul d get cracked lips and cuts on the corners of my mouth but i dont recall any bumps. Throughout my adult yrs i have been tested for all stds urine a blood and i dont recall hsv1 or hsv2 being determined in my history up until 2 yrs ago. Present time 2wks ago i had an outbreak that was typical of herpes outbreak. Small clusters of bumps. Lasted seven days. i asked my doc if the test cold have been wrong and he said based on my history and time of test after exposure(5wks)...
I had extremely dry, cracked skin on the corners of my mouth which caused me to not be able to open it very far, as well as the small painful blisters on the top of my mouth. This finally went away, but I now have this small patch of what looks to be clear blisters forming on the center of my upper lip. I've tried chap sticks and carmex, but neither have seemed to work; they only irritate it more.
Topical creams like tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) and pimecrolimus cream (Elidel) are also useful. Thirdly, herpes can be a possibility. Diagnosed by swabs and blood test like herpes select or western blot. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Contact dermatitis could be due to tooth pastes, mouth cleansers, spoons, cups, glasses, food items, cosmetics, shampoos, etc, basically anything that comes in contact with your lips. Another possibility is eczema. Herpes infection is another possibility if there is a history of kissing or sexual contact (can get aggravated in presence of vitamin deficiencies, dry cracked lips, infections etc).
Or a bad case of Chapped lips , a condition whereby the lips become dry and possibly cracked. It may be caused by the evaporation of moisture. Lip balm can often provide temporary relief, though it should not be used extensively. One should avoid licking their lips as saliva contains the enzyme amylase, which can damage the already compromised lip tissue. Honey can be used on the lips as a natural remedy.

Although the doctors say that these two are not related, something makes me feel that the problem with my lips could have been triggered by Herpes Zoaster(because when I search the internet for diseases related to lips, in some links I find a mention of Herpes). I just hope that someone finds a cure for this.
About 2 months ago, I went to visit my physician regarding a problem I had with a ring of redness around my lips - more prominent on my bottom lip - it was a lighter, tender pink shade and kind of looked like I had been drinking lots of red kool-aid. I also had constant dry, cracked and bleeding lips, and tried everything from drinking plenty of water and making sure I wasn't licking them.
I recently have experienced the same symptoms of the weeping, yellow crust on lips. It started with cracked, chapped lips, and applied Blistex to help heal my lips. Only my lips did not heal. They started appearing swollen, with reddness on inner lips, yellow crust on tops of lips, no pain but about as uncomfortable as a badly chapped lip. On the 4th day I went to go see a doctor; he diagnosed me with a condtion called Impetigo which is a bacterial infection that is very contagious.
Technically speaking, as long as your lips aren't cracked, you can used infected chapstick without breaking out in little bumps. But definitely not recommended because it's usually very hard to tell if you have lesions or not. Ok here's what I did to cure it: 1. Clean the lip of any chapstick. 2. Take a cue tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and rolled it over the infected area a couple times. (**see note below) 3. Let the alcohol dry off/evaporate. 4. Cover lips in antibacterial ointment.
But either just before or immediately after my lower lip will become EXTREMELY dry, chapped, cracked, and then swell. It doesn't matter what I use on my lips to prevent it...it never fails. At first I thought I had Herpes, so I got it tested and that's not it. I do have HPV, but I stay on top of it regularly and I have never has any problems with any outbreaks. I also have Eczema and I thought that maybe my meds were causing the problem so I switched ot Elidel cream; no luck with the lips.
Hi! I have also white tiny dots on my lips. I have herpes type I and II. I have recently noticed that those same dots, I have on my eyelids and under my eyes as well. They can not be noticed as much, but they are there. My lips feel dry and sometimes they hurt me. I don't know how I can do something to remove them or heal the area. Does someone know something about it? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Now, for the possibility of oral herpes. What you describe does not sound like oral herpes, it sounds like cracked lips, perhaps because you have been, consciously or unconsciously, licking them or perhaps are in a low humidity environment (or both). Oral herpes presents as oral blisters and open sores, not cracks. So, finally, about your risk of oral herpes.
But he has ate me out... and one time he had what looked like cracked lips... on both corners of his lips. and he ate me out... after i realized they were there it was to late... i freaked out but it was on both sides... and looked like cracked dry lips... anyways that was about 3 weeks ago.. well about a week ago i thought i had an UTI. Cold sores are usually painful blisters on the skin of the lips, mouth, gums, or lip area. They are caused by herpes simplex virus and usually go away in 1-2 weeks. I would suggest going to a doctor for some antiviral pills(acyclovir) since your symptoms are recurring. Remove any stress from your life as well.
Not sure if this is a fungus, a case of herpes (HSV), or what ?? Severely chapped lips, darkened, shaded on the edges, cracked, dry lip tissue. What's going on ? Of course, I'd be able to research elsewhere online (other forums) or even get a pro diagnosis, from an online medical professional. Site/Resource Recommendations ?
The corners of my mouth tingle, burn and are very painful, but they feel more like cracks as opposed to blisters. As far as I can see, there aren't any lesions on my lips.....just red, cracked, and crusty lip corners. I went to my doctor this morning and he said it doesn't look like herpes. He took blood to test just in case, but I won't get those results back for a few days. It helped to hear my doctor say that, but I am still worried.....especially for my daughter.
Anyway, the confusing thing is that it felt similar to herpes, but wasn't like the herpes usually get (big blisters which crust over and eventually heal). There were sores, but they were flat with clear stuff that would ooze out if the skin cracked, and the skin was cracking as well. I had my first outbreak of this when I was pregnant (for the first time) last year (2008) and had another episode just after baby was born and more since. One doc at the time said eczma and another said herpes.
I know this is not a good idea because it can irritate the skin. about 2 hours after that i started getting chapped lip and my lips got a bit cracked. I went to be and when i woke up my lips were still chapped, all day my lips were chapped and the day after that (today) their still chapped. I so far have not had any symptoms ( i know it takes a while to grow symptoms but i heard it usually shows up within two days). Can someone please provide feedback as i am a very paranoid and scared kid.
