cpap

Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
Avatar n tn Would test thyroid - if severely hypo, it may be the cause. weight loss, cpap, mouthpieces and surgery are the usual treatment options.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea too and I stopped breathing over 300 times so 203 times is normal my pulse ox dropped in the low 40's I have a cpap machine and there are no horror stories about it as long as you get the right mask to fit you you will be fine there is air blowing when you breathe in and out it is normal especially if you have a nasal mask I have a full face mask because I am a mouth breather and because I have oxygen going in mine I like the cpap good luck.
Avatar f tn Have a sever case of sleep apnea , howeverm I had surgery last year ( tonsilectomy and adnoidectomy) and my apnea is not as bad now. Butnmy question is.. will my apnea affect my baby in a negative way if I dont use my cpap machine?
1769279 tn?1315015320 I also have CM and sleep apnea. I love my CPAP machine. It has made a huge difference in my sleep. You should definitely have a sleep study. I also read that CM people are at risk for lots of sleep disorders. As a matter of fact, in addition to sleep apnea I have something called Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD). It is similar to RLS.
Avatar f tn Well I went back to do my tests for the CPAP and was suprised to find that the tech. that did my sleep study gave me the wrong info. I do not have sleep apnea but my oxygen levels were so low that I now have to wear oxygen at night. I have been sleeping better. Anyone else having this problem?
Avatar f tn I currently have sleep apnea and have been on the cpap machine. Here is the real kicker when i wear the cpap i wake up and sneeze continuously plus nose is running and congested. Either i get a good night sleep and I am sick the whole next day or I am tired the next day and do not feel sick. All the dr's i have gone to don't seem to be doing anything. I recently went to strictly a sleep dr and they are changing my machine out to an auto machine which i will pick up today.
Avatar n tn After a couple weeks after the surgery, my sleep apnea symptoms returned. My symptoms are that I wake up gasping for air in the middle of the night. I am now seriously considering UPPP. I will be meeting with my ENT as well as another ENT for a second opinion. My biggest fear is that I will permanently have difficulty swallowing, my voice will change, and worst of all, still need the CPAP (which would render the surgery useless for me).
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
1622896 tn?1562364967 If you have obstructive sleep apnea and it is effectively treated (like with CPAP), a sleeping medication shouldn't matter. I'm guessing you were on the med at the time of your titration study, so that influence would have been factored in to the pressure you were prescribed. When you hear warnings about taking sleep meds with obstructive sleep apnea, that's mainly if your apnea is untreated. If you have central sleep apnea, then that's a different story.
385668 tn?1301793880 Hi. You've been doing your homework, which is good. I believe any surgery should be approached with full knowledge and understanding. However, ignorance is bliss, because the more we know the more we tend to worry. I have not had that surgery, but have 3 acquaintances who have. Their apnea was quite severe.
Avatar f tn I am having trouble using the cpap machine. I am afraid to sleep as the doctor did say that with this apnea the brain forgets to tell you to breath. They said my oxygen levels dropped to 64 during the night. I have developed swollen legs, ankles and feet. Should I call the doctor about this or just wait till after the study. The swelling will go down if I am laying down most of the day. This can't be good for blood clots.
Avatar m tn He sugested that it might be acid reflux gave me some meds and had me do a sleep study and found ou that i had sleep apnea he gave me a cpac machine and told me i would have to wear it for life. Has there been anyone who had sleep apnea and been able to get rid of it ?
Avatar n tn Do you know why you cannot get used to the CPAP. There are many different treatments for sleep apnea. I suggest you check out sleep apnea support sites for more info. - www.apneasupport.org and www.cpaptalk.com Since you are not overweight you may be a good candidate for sleep apnea surgery but don't do the UPPP.
Avatar m tn They told Craig he has moderate to severe sleep apnea and needs a CPAP immediately. So it is arriving tomorrow. It is the size of a laptop computer and has a "smart card" in it that records data during the night while the person is sleeping. We then take the card to each follow up appt and they will download the information on it. Anyway, the sleep doctor was telling me that many problems could be caused by sleep apnea.
Avatar n tn at the last hospital I worked at they were putting in place a protocol for the RTs to be able to put the hospitals CPAP units on post-op patients who demonstrate sleep apnea. The surgeons (including Ortho) and anesthia are to do pre-op screening to those who may be susceptable to having sleep apnea while under sedation. I've had a few patients come back still groggy enough where they were having sleep apnea.
Avatar n tn Im new to this and am asking if Im doing something wrong here. I am use the Autopap unit for Sleep Apnea that I have been diagnosed to suffer from. Been using it near 6 to 7 weeks now. I have a nose cup on my face at night. But at times I feel a need to cough at 1st. Like something is tickling the back of my oesophagus. Feels like a hair but I can't spit it out and it's always their when I put the mask back on. Then when I wake my lungs hurt like Im getting an infection in them.
Avatar n tn His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?
1285653 tn?1288358629 Took sleep study on June 16, 2010 after taking other tests. DX with sleep apnea a week later. Started my CPAP machine on June 28, 2010. It has been VERY wonderful working with it. If I awake and my mask is off, I will IMMEDIATELY adjust and put it on. My point, PLEASE get checked for sleep apnea. MANY of my symptoms have become dulled. And I truly believe it is due to using my CPAP. And hopefully, my success is inspiration to others. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Best solution to CPAP problems with severe obstructive sleep apnea has been for me switching sides sleep on, and never sleeping on back with arms straight out to side (asphyxiation of JC). Works for me, just a suggestion. I sleep with 'mask' on R side then L side to sleep. Adjusting 'mask' is most important thing. Happy sleeping and breathing at night.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea. I hate using the CPAP! I do not sleep any better with it. I wake up with my stomach bloated with air, or I wake up with an extremely dry mouth, or I wake up with air leaking out of the side of the mask... every night, not just some times. I tried two different masks to no avail. I am looking into surgery.
Avatar n tn All the symptoms you describe and the high red blood cell count could be attributed to obstructive sleep apnea. I would question the validity of a sleep study that only lasted 3 hours, with you fighting “to stay asleep." You should definitely give the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device a fair trial. You also need to have further discussions with the sleep specialist, about his/her impressions of your symptoms.
