Common Questions and Answers about Cpap travel

cpap

Avatar f tn Hi Jerry, I have been using my CPAP for at least 10 years and it has helped me tremendously. If I have to travel I always bring it with me. If I don't, I wake up with sore throat (snoring) and will be tired all day. My only reason for enquiring was that I developed chest pain for a week or so and was trying to figure out what was causing it. I thought perhaps the pain was caused by swallowing too much air or something.
1307298 tn?1305946851 I also would like to try provent. I started using a CPAP machine a couple of months ago. While I finally found a mask I can sleep with, it is cumbersome, high maintenance, limiting and not particularly comfortable. The parts have to be replaced every couple of months and I never take it when I travel. I really don't see the CPAP as a long term solution for me. I'm hoping to find something better.
Avatar f tn I had a job that I wanted to keep that involved international travel, I have over a million miles on United Airlines - and while never totally comfortable I was able to travel and sleep on long flights - my biggest problem with air travel is the size of the coach seat, I'm a big guy, on a very tall frame. Apnea is dangerous, I hope the bed arrangement reduces your risk.
1580703 tn?1651904887 If you have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, an average 2 hours of use of the CPAP machine each night is not considered to be adequate treatment. You should consider working with your provider and a sleep medicine specialist to increase the time that you use the CPAP machine. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical or legal advice. 712042 tn?1254569209 I'm looking for pearls of wisdom, advice and general 'user' comments on CPAP.I'm newly diagnosed with sleep apnea, and more importantly long and frequent episodes of decreased oxygen due to airway obstruction. I didn't know I had an apnea problem. I am now on day 11 of CPAP use at pre-set minimum of 5 lbs pressure which auto adjusts higher as needed. And nothing goes with this new sleep outfit! Any thoughts? Joan.
648944 tn?1241469694 From what I've read on a site devoted to cpap (cpaptalk) some of the older machines are workhorses and some report length of service similar to yours. It would not hurt to plan for the day it does "give up the ghost". Have you had it checked to make sure it is still outputting the proper pressure? Also, many of the newer machines capture treatment data so that you can know if your treatment is effective, and some even have available software so you can monitor it yourself.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
219241 tn?1413537765 He said the sleep study I am having done soon should solve all my problems! A CPAP machine and I will be cured! I said, Oh? Solve ALL my problems?Yes! He remarked...Great, coz I have a car that is broken down, so when I wake up it will have turned into a brand new Audi? I don't think he appreciates my sense of humour.
Avatar n tn since using cpap machine started swelling in feet, ankles, hands and stomach. stopped using machine for 4 days swelling went away. started using again for 3 days swelling came back.
Avatar m tn ve lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
Avatar m tn I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP. After just one night without the CPAP I dropped 3 pounds, which I believe is all fluids. My question is this: Could CPAP use cause your kidneys not to filter out fluids from your blood? When using CPAP I do not get up during the night to urinate. After one night without using CPAP I did get up to go to the bathroom, my weight dropped by 3 pounds and the pain is greatly reduced.
Avatar n tn I have been using a CPAP machine for almost 3 months. From the night I used it I did not wake to go to the bathroom during the night. Although this was nice, I developed a problem immediately (from the first night) with swelling in my legs (calves, ankles, feet) and in my hands. I did NOT mention it to the sleep doctor because It was a month until my follow-up appointment and I never saw it listed as a side effect of CPAP therapy in materials I read.
Avatar f tn I had to discontinue using my cpap, due to chronic lung infections. Changing the tubing, keeping it spotless, did not help prevent infection for me. Stopping the cpap treatment, is the only thing that prevented the chronic lung infections...and I always used the humitifer, which never helped prevent any infection... I regret ever having the sleep study and I regret what all the money and time it cost me, and the suffering of 3 years of lung infections...I am so done using the cpap treatment!
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
Avatar f tn Hi Meagher sorry you are having problem with your CPAP the only thing i may suggest is another type of mask i dout if the CPAP machine would send out any toxic air what i my suggest is run the CPAP for a while please let me know how you get on........

Avatar f tn I've been on a CPAP for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm sleeping relatively well with it, 7-8 hours per night. Almost every day since I've had the CPAP I've had headaches. The headaches don't start when I get up, but rather a few hours later in the day. Earlier this week I saw my doctor for a check up and told him about these headaches, and he said they were real and probably caused by pressure on the brain.
Avatar m tn This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. However pulmonary fibrosis cannot be due to CPAP use. Alternatively uses of CPAP mask in pulmonary fibrosis can cause claustrophobia like symptoms. Lung scarring occurs due to pathological deposition of fibrous tissue. This is a progressive disease usually and hence needs frequent periodic monitoring.
