Avatar m tn ventricular function significantly improved after 3 months, associated with a relative 81% risk reduction for mortality or cardiac transplantation. Recently, in a randomized trial in 55 patients, CPAP therapy for 3 months improved ventricular function and reduced sympathetic activity in patients with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar f tn My neurologist has approached therapy for the migraines via medications and extremely adamant toward my use of a CPAP machine for the SOSA. The consensus of this therapy is that the CPAP machine is as important in treating the migraines as the medicine. While the medicinal/CPAP therapy ordered by my pulmonologist has been somewhat successful, everyday headaches continue to be prevalent with cluster migraines still uncontrolled.
Avatar f tn How long does it take till you feel back to normal after you start using your CPAP
Avatar n tn I did NOT mention it to the sleep doctor because It was a month until my follow-up appointment and I never saw it listed as a side effect of CPAP therapy in materials I read. However, since I was already scheduled for on-going app'ts with my GP who had begun treating me for high blood pressure, (a month before referring me to the sleep clinic for a polysomnogram), on two of these visits I complained to her about the swelling in legs and feet and she prescribed daily use of a 20 mg.
Avatar m tn I started using CPAP therapy December 7th. I started having problems within a week. I have severe pain in all of my joints, but especially in my hands, shoulders, hips and knees. They all feel very swollen. Each morning the problem is worse and during the day improves somewhat. I stopped using the machine and after one day the pain is reduced considerably. I also weigh myself every morning. I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP.
Avatar f tn The ear infection could be causing the nausea and dizziness. Do not discontinue CPAP therapy. The infection is not related to this therapy. If the present pressures are uncomfortable, you could try BiPAP, which is a bi level pressure device, which regulates according to inspiration and expiration, and hence is more comfortable. You will need to consult your primary care physician for further evaluation, who may then refer you to an ENT specialist.
Avatar f tn s during the test so she ordered oxygen for me (I had tried teh CPAP machine a few years back and was unable to tolerate it). My question is - I am a mouth breather (always have been), but the supplemental oxygen is through a nasal cannula. Is this method of supplying the oxygen sufficient since I breath through my mouth and not my nose or should I request a mask to wear instead? Right now my o2 is set at 2lpm if that makes any difference.
Avatar n tn There is clear and recognized link between MS and sleep disorders --- at least some types of sleep disorders and especially when MS lesions are present in the brain stem. MS can definitely cause a type of sleep apnea called central sleep apnea. I'm wondering if you have that and if it might be why you need bi-pap instead of CPAP. Do you have trouble exhaling against the constant air pressure of CPAP (if you ever used it, of course)?
Avatar f tn My child had RSV and a co-worker had strep which I had been exposed to. I also started a new CPAP machine therapy at a much higher pressure than I had previously. I had been feeling dizzy and had a mild sore throat and mailasie. 10 days ago I went to doctor who swabbed my throat and put me on antibiotic even though strep test was negative. I completed the treatment but the bump has not gone away. I think my dizziness is due to me needing to adjust to the new cpap pressure.
Avatar f tn The therapy for this condition includes retaining of normal circadian rhythm by non-pharmacological therapy which includes; Photo therapy, maintenance of sleep hygiene. You need to go for morning exercises and work out which will make you fresh and active all day and tiredness at the end of day will help you to induce sleep naturally. As for sleep apnea is concerned, you need to take general measures like weight loss and stop smoking (if present).
Avatar n tn Lots of questions in there. Yes, low oxygen levels are serious. Nothing should be left to chance. Using a data capable cpap can tell you if the therapy is effective in reducing the apneas, however those aren't usually the first machine issued. His doctor can order an overnight recording oximeter for home use to confirm the cpap's effectiveness is keeping his oxygen level up. Recording devices are quite pricey.
Avatar n tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). So please contact your doctor if you have not done it before so that treatment can be started. Regards and God bless.
Avatar m tn 4 Apnea, 12 Hypoapnea/M , AHI 19, Average O2 saturation 93%, lowest 83% once, pulse h 101, low 50, avg 74 then I wore Auto CPAP s9 along with TAP3 and AHI was 0, All Apnea are gone, O2 average was 95% but lowest desaturation episode was 76%, once, pulse H 104,lowest 47 and average 72 Why does this lowest desaturation event up to 83% occur even with CPAP ? Is this a clinically significant to seek an opinion ?
Avatar f tn You may have read on CPAP therapy literature the simple statement that one can suffocate from mask. There are warning buzzers on machine if it fails to force air thru airway to lungs but also just wearing the mask with machine off you suffocate and die. So paralysis may be lack of O2 to lungs which causes hypoxnia killing brain and cardiac tissues. Suggest you see, pronto, sleep doctor who prescribed CPAP machine.
Avatar f tn "It's not likely it's the cpap treatment itself doing anything to cause headaches later during the day." That's what I thought as well, but the doc and his nurse were out of the office for a few days doing flu shots around town, so I won't be able to call to confirm what he said until Monday. I had so much information given to me in the appointment that by the time I got home and answered a few phone calls I had forgotten some stuff.
Avatar m tn I am a 32 year old male diagnosed with sleep apnea, so I was given an auto-pressure CPAP machine. Just as soon as I started using the machine it felt like I was struggling to exhale. The sleep company representitive said that the machine starts out using the lowest possible pressure, so I shouldn't be having a problem. I tried to use the machine for a couple of hours and I had the sensation that I had to take off the machine and struggle for breath, as I can't seem to exhale.
Avatar m tn I have been on auto cpap treatment for 2 weeks now and my data is good. But i cannot stay on the cpap for a whole night. I just get about 4 to 5 hours a night on it. Very difficult to get used to the mask but i am hanging in there and i am determined. I am trying to get better sleep habits.
Avatar m tn Was given a machine with no humidifier, which was totally useless. Once I got the humidifier added, CPAP eliminated my daytime sleepiness. I wanted to make CPAP work better, tried prescription nasal spray, still only one nostril open. Went on an elimination diet searching for food allergies/sensitivities. Bingo. Eliminated two very common foods, and both my nostrils are now wide open with no blockage. I kept getting periodic sinus infections from the CPAP.
1572585 tn?1309245054 As discussed above CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is the therapy for obstructive sleep apnea as it helps to keep the airways patent. Obstructive Sleep Apnea can cause other complications like hypertension. Under therapy you can carry on with your normal work and driving also. Only go for regular follow ups with your doctor to check to see if the apneas are under control and if your sleep is adequate. Ensure to use the CPAP machine regularly.
Avatar f tn ) It was not delivered until the end of aug but that is too long a story for now. This is what cpap therapy should be. A machine that changes pressure during your sleep as you need it. I can sleep all night.
1302038 tn?1439575232 Can you call your sleep clinic for a temporary loaner cpap - this is what I did while waiting for my cpap. Also, try to sleep with your head elevated, head and chin pointed back kind of in a cpr position - thereby opening your airway while your sleep. Also make sure you don't eat anything 3-4 before bedtime.
Avatar f tn • With use of a CPAP or bilevel, they show a pattern of central apneas and hypopneas that meets the Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) definition of CSA Patients with CompSA may be seen as those who cannot tolerate conventional CPAP or bilevel therapy both during lab titration and at home. Neither CPAP nor bilevel therapy seems to alleviate their sleep disorders.
