Common Questions and Answers about Cpap q&a

cpap

Avatar n tn I have been using a CPAP machine for almost 3 months. From the night I used it I did not wake to go to the bathroom during the night. Although this was nice, I developed a problem immediately (from the first night) with swelling in my legs (calves, ankles, feet) and in my hands. I did NOT mention it to the sleep doctor because It was a month until my follow-up appointment and I never saw it listed as a side effect of CPAP therapy in materials I read.
1032104 tn?1259668303 Could you include CPAP as a treatment? CPAP is so commonly used that it deserves a place. Thanks. Dave.
Avatar m tn How awful for her. You are quite correct in saying that as she breathes with her mouth open she needs a full face mask. I use a full face mask and yes, it was difficult for the first week or so and I hated it. Now however I cannot sleep without the CPAP and get a wonderful nights sleep. I'm not a medic and therefore cannot advise you but speak to your doctor and ask if there are any options available.
Avatar n tn I am sick of this! Can anyone help. I can easily sleep 15 hours a day and still feel tired. I was diagnosed with moderate (13) sleep apnea several years ago but never could get used to the CPAP. I have Disk Degenerative Disease with two vertebra abnormalities. In addition I am being treated for hi blood pressure, hi cholesterol, fibromyalgia with Gabapentin, zoloft. etc. Could it be all of these drugs? I also had a blood test and am now taking 1000 mg of Vit. D, and Vit B.
Avatar f tn I try not to let them stack up and just tackle one at a time. I hope you adjust quickly to your cpap. I do ok for about 3-4 hours a night with mine until i have to take it off (usually in my sleep!). Happy holidays!
Avatar m tn Hi I just wanted to comment about your CPAP problem. I have been using a CPAP for many years. Ever so often you should have a new sleep study as the pressure setting may need to be changed. Also the doctor needs to know about your head jerks, he will be able to determine what is causing them. So if I were you I would make an appointment with your sleep doctor as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
Avatar n tn once i get my new machine how long will it take to be back to 100%. i could tell the morning after that i did feel a little better and did not have a headaache.
332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?

Avatar f tn I finally was sent for sleep study and DX with severe sleep apnea and PLM. Cpap has helped this alot. Even with Cpap still fatigued at work where I was still falling asleep talking to people and still driving issues. Currently on large doses of Adderall and Pravogil to help me stay awake. The Pravogil has helped some but the rest of the stimulants seem to be just candy. No effect. ? narcolepsy/hypersomnia but still testing and trying meds.
Avatar m tn Husband has COPD & uses oxygen 24/7. He has an oxygen concentrator & also uses a CPAP. Recently on just the oxygen his readings are in the low 70's & he can hardly do anything without being extremely out of breath. If he uses the oxygen with the CPAP his readings go into the low 90's. trying to understand why the big difference.

Avatar m tn During the early morning (3 - 4 AM) I suddenly get a burning sensation in the left eye and it feels like there is something rubbing against my eye. I immediately remove the CPAP mask and try using a tissue to whip it away, but there is nothing there. I can feel something between the eye and the eye lid that seems to be moving around. I apply itchy-eye eye drops to get it out and provide some relief for the burning sensation, but that only gives relief for a few minutes.
Avatar n tn I have severe asthma AND VCD. I was recently started on CPAP for a mild case of sleep apnea. I hate it! I can't breathe with the machine on and it gives me headaches. I'm not sleeping any better with it than I was without it. I'm still waking up at least once per night needing to do a neb treatment. I also have fibromyalgia and PD, so I'm up several times per night due to pain, which the CPAP doesn't help.
Avatar m tn Does anyone experience severe back pains in the morning? I can't tell if it my lungs. I have epilepsy and my cpap machine has been a blessing in disguise, I've lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
Avatar m tn I have just started using the CPAP machine a little over a week ago and have experienced the same symptoms. I have looked on the interent and found other people have also experienced this. However, I have not found any medical reason for it. There must be some correlation between swelling and CPAP machine use for so many to have experienced the same symptoms. As for my resting, I sleep much more soundly and feel better mentally during the day.
Avatar f tn I am far more alert during the day, seldom take a nap now, whereas before, I fell asleep often on my computer, watching TV. I consider CPAP a lifesaver. Being concerned about the danger of a dirty CPAP, I now have SoClean, just need to make sure I use it regularly, still trying to get in a routine with it.
514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
1173253 tn?1263496613 I seem to get congested and a stuffy nose when I go to sleep with my CPAP. Currently I have chest congestion and a cough, so it is even worse than usual. I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
Avatar m tn I have been using a CPAP for 4+ years; lately I have a problem with the air flow irritating an already inflamed nasal passages. I am now using a chin strap and oxygen cannula instead of the CPAP when nasal irritation won't allow sleep with the CPAP running. Should I jut give up on the CPAP?
Avatar f tn I just started using a CPAP & was totally unprepared for the feeling of breathing toxic air. I didn't last 2 hours using the machine & finally took off my mask when my lungs were burning & I had severe nausea. It felt like the plastic fumes from the tubing or mask was being forced into my body. I had to take a hot shower (2:30 am) & breath the steam for 30+ minutes before I felt some relief in my lungs.
