Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea. I hate using the CPAP! I do not sleep any better with it. I wake up with my stomach bloated with air, or I wake up with an extremely dry mouth, or I wake up with air leaking out of the side of the mask... every night, not just some times. I tried two different masks to no avail. I am looking into surgery.
1054090 tn?1343965695 If you do have sleep apnea, the treatment is that you will sleep with a CPAP machine. It stands for Continuos Positive Air Pressure. You wear a mask that blows air down your passages to keep them from closing when you sleep. Cause when they close is when you stop breathing. Id it is determined you have sleep apnea it is vital that you wear the cpap eveytime!! You can die from sleep apnea just as easily as a baby can die from sids.
612551 tn?1450022175 There are specially designed pillow for Obstructive sleep apnea. Studies have been done to study the effects of specially designed pillow on snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The pillow was found to be an effective and easily used treatment for mild (respiratory disturbance index [RDI] 5 to 19) and moderate (RDI 20 to 40) obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. In turn it helped to increase the REM stage of sleep and increased oxygen saturations.
Avatar m tn You have been sleep deprived for many years. I too, was a zombie. It took me a year to get used to cpap so be patient. Waiting a couple of weeks for equipment is not unusual. You may want to check out other sites devoted to sleep apnea such as apneasupport.org and cpaptalk.
107693 tn?1252864443 I am having a hard time gettting use to the CPAP. I asked for the nose pillow when i got the results, thinking that i would like it better, It has been two weeks so i asked for the small mask. I was also told that i need to use CPAP with the water. When i wake up I find the need to take it off, then when i go to put it back I get very anxious, palpitations or it feels that my heart is racing. So i sleep without it. I have thyrothis with six nodules. had a FNA results were negative.
1622896 tn?1562364967 If you have obstructive sleep apnea and it is effectively treated (like with CPAP), a sleeping medication shouldn't matter. I'm guessing you were on the med at the time of your titration study, so that influence would have been factored in to the pressure you were prescribed. When you hear warnings about taking sleep meds with obstructive sleep apnea, that's mainly if your apnea is untreated. If you have central sleep apnea, then that's a different story.
Avatar f tn I am on oxyagen for my sleep apnea and i fight with keeping the canola in my nose,i heard of a mouth piece that pulls the jaw forward and helps sleep apnea not sure what its called, but im interested anyone know about this device?

287996 tn?1312023682 i keep having this happen to me i have sleep apnea i use the machine but it still happens any ideas on what can cause this?
Avatar n tn His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?
Avatar n tn Im new to this and am asking if Im doing something wrong here. I am use the Autopap unit for Sleep Apnea that I have been diagnosed to suffer from. Been using it near 6 to 7 weeks now. I have a nose cup on my face at night. But at times I feel a need to cough at 1st. Like something is tickling the back of my oesophagus. Feels like a hair but I can't spit it out and it's always their when I put the mask back on. Then when I wake my lungs hurt like Im getting an infection in them.
603216 tn?1244710593 I will be purchasing a cpap machine next week for my sleep apnea and wondered if anyone had any tips or advice on what I should be looking for or at when purchasing one. Also does anyone have any comments on the face mask verses the nasal mask??
Avatar n tn Would test thyroid - if severely hypo, it may be the cause. weight loss, cpap, mouthpieces and surgery are the usual treatment options.
Avatar n tn All the symptoms you describe and the high red blood cell count could be attributed to obstructive sleep apnea. I would question the validity of a sleep study that only lasted 3 hours, with you fighting “to stay asleep." You should definitely give the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device a fair trial. You also need to have further discussions with the sleep specialist, about his/her impressions of your symptoms.
Avatar f tn My husband has a CPAP which helps him breathe but he hates it ... like really HATES this machine. He says it is very difficult for him to sleep with the nose mask on (and especially when he has a cold, but who sleeps well with a cold after all). However when he tries to sleep without the CPAP, he wakes and snores so much and so loud, he doesn't really sleep at all (during his sleep test, they determined he woke between 75-90 times per night). This has been going on for over 2 years.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea and after using CPAP I still have exhaustion, daytime falling asleep, heart racing. Is the heart racing and feeling of restlessness, due to sleep apnea or something else? I also have high blood pressure, and blood in my stool, GERD, gastritis, asthma. Does it take a long time for CPAP to start working? I was taking some sleeping pills and melatonin. Should I use a full face mask or standard nose mask with CPAP? Thanks very much!
Avatar n tn I use the CPAP for my sleep apnea and know that I would constantly wake up during the night because the mask would slip or would be uncomfortable or even the most annoying--hissing. Maybe it's as simple as that. I switched the type of mask I use in the last month to a nasal pillow and it is much better for me. I don't have to strap it on tightly and it's much more comfortable, leading to better rest at night. You should consider using an alternative mask and see if it helps.
Avatar f tn Hi, Dr Carolyn Dean talks about sleep apnea and Magnesium supplementation . If you google : Magnesium and sleep Apnea. I have family members who also refuses to use CPAP, so they are trying Mg instead. Still at the starting stage. But what I could tell you is that snoring is definitely less.. :) Sleep apnea causes high BP, memory loss, headaches, poor concentration, fatigue and so many more.. So I'd say, give Mg Glycinate a try..
1213687 tn?1266286464 Is there a cure for sleep apnea? Surgery.....
1769279 tn?1315015320 Hello :-) Sleep apnea and sleep disturbances can be associated with chiari, from what I've read. I have it, but don't have the bipap or cpap yet. Ask your NL for a sleep study and you will find out for sure. It can be a dangerous condition, so you definitely want to catch it and fix it.
Avatar m tn Your daytime sleepiness and depersonalization, nocturnal desaturation and an elevated respiratory disturbance index (RDI) are all consistent with the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. The data does warrant your making a maximum effort to use the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device effectively. The diagnosis will be more certain if and when you are consistently able to use the CPAP effectively, with relief of symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am experiencing the same problems for about 3 months. I feel your frustrations. I have Severe Sleep Apnea caused by both CSA and Hypopnea but more so with Hypopnea. I got on the internet to see if others were having the same problems. Puffy eyes and swollen feet are very noticeable since using CPAP. I have my settings on high Humidity level during the winter. I hope to see the spectrum go the other way during during the Summer. Desert regions of the Northwest make very dry conditions.
Avatar m tn They told Craig he has moderate to severe sleep apnea and needs a CPAP immediately. So it is arriving tomorrow. It is the size of a laptop computer and has a "smart card" in it that records data during the night while the person is sleeping. We then take the card to each follow up appt and they will download the information on it. Anyway, the sleep doctor was telling me that many problems could be caused by sleep apnea.
Avatar m tn I have sleep apnea. I wear a full mask. Is it normal to wake up several nights (3 or 4) with the mask on? I thought the CPAP was supposed to make me sleep better not waking up a lot of times. I'm not sure what is going on because I woke up one night with the mask on and was choking and gasping for air than I had a seizure.
